<p>“It is contended that the documentary makes defamatory imputation and castes slur on reputation of the country and the judiciary and against the Prime Minister. Issue notice to the respondents…,” the court said.</p>

<p>India's law enforcement agency Enforcement Directorate in April registered a case against BBC's India news broadcaster in connection to the foreign exchange violations allegations. The case was filed under the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA).&nbsp;</p>

<p>India's Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) in a release noted that BBC group entities' income and profits which were disclosed are "not commensurate" with respect to its operations' scale.&nbsp;"The survey operations also revealed that services of seconded employees have been utilised for which reimbursement has been made by the Indian entity to the foreign entity concerned," it added.&nbsp;</p>

<p>India's Income Tax Department carried out tax surveys at BBC offices in Delhi and Mumbai in the month of February. The IT department had reportedly "gathered several evidence" which suggest that "tax has not been paid on certain remittances" which have not been disclosed as income in India by the foreign entities of the group.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The BBC raids came after the UK broadcaster on 17 January released a documentary on the 2002 Gujarat riots under the title ‘India: The Modi Question’. The release of the documentary drew sharp reaction from the Indian government who opposed it and ordered curbs on its release on various social media platforms.&nbsp;</p>

They announced their plans to initiate discussions this year on the responsible use of this technology and establish a working group to address various issues related to it.</p>

<p>Governments worldwide are facing pressure to swiftly address the risks associated with generative AI. This week, Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, the organisation behind ChatGPT, testified before a US Senate panel and stressed the necessity of regulating AI. G7 leaders acknowledged the increasing prominence of generative AI across countries and sectors and emphasised the need to assess its opportunities and challenges.</p>

<p>"We recognise the need to immediately take stock of the opportunities and challenges of generative AI, which is increasingly prominent across countries and sectors," said the G7 in a statement.</p>

<p>The G7 statement outlined plans regarding the establishment of the Hiroshima AI process.</p>

<p>"We task relevant ministers to establish the Hiroshima AI process, through a G7 working group, in an inclusive manner... for discussions on generative AI by the end of this year."</p>

<p>The new working group, as per an AFP report, will collaborate with the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI). This month, the European Parliament also took steps towards EU-wide regulation of AI systems, including ChatGPT, with the aim of adopting a final law after negotiations with member states.</p>

<p>Speaking before a US Senate Panel on Tuesday, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman testified that while generative AI has the potential to address significant challenges, such as climate change and cancer treatment, its increasing power necessitates regulatory intervention by governments.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"We think that regulatory intervention by governments will be critical to mitigate the risks of increasingly powerful models," he said.</p>

Speaking to the media, German Ambassador Dr Philipp Ackermann explained that during his visit, Chancellor Scholz will discuss geopolitics with the Indian&nbsp;Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with the Russia-Ukraine conflict being a key item on the agenda. He said, "we have seen President Biden in Ukraine, and we have seen Putin's speech, so this will be a very important item on the agenda."</p>

<p>The ambassador also added that while this is an important issue, the talks will not be restricted to it alone and that other topics such as China and the Indo-Pacific region will also be discussed.</p>

<p>Trade and business will also be a major focus during the visit, with the Chancellor being accompanied by a delegation of CEOs from 12 German companies. The German ambassador stressed the need for an early conclusion of the India-EU Free Trade Agreement, stating that "German business is very interested in getting this FTA done." The leaders will also interact with CEOs and business leaders from both sides.</p>

Ackermann noted that there are currently around 35,000 Indian students in Germany, with a further 18,000 in the pipeline to travel to the country.</p>

<p>This will be Chancellor Scholz's first visit to India in his current role and the first standalone visit of a German Chancellor to India since the Inter-Governmental Consultation mechanism began in 2011.</p>
