Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Mukul Roy on Wednesday said that he has resigned from the TMC party and if BJP entrusts him with the responsibility he will take it. While addressing the press conference in Delhi, Mukul Roy said, "There is no question of resigning from TMC. I am not even a part of it. I have already resigned from TMC".

"Previously I was in BJP and again I will be in the same party. If BJP entrusts me with responsibilities I will duly take it," he added.

Earlier Leader of Opposition in West Bengal Assembly Suvendu Adhikari said that West Bengal BJP is not interested in bringing rejected leaders from the other parties.

"We are not interested in these types of people. We are interested in strengthening the booth. West Bengal BJP is now very self-independent. We don`t need to bring any leaders. We are not allowing this type of rejected people," Suvendu Adhikari had said.

A missing complaint regarding TMC MLA Mukul Roy was lodged at Kolkata`s NSCBI Airport police station by his son Subhranshu Roy on Monday night.

Asked why he had filed a missing report of his father Mukul Roy, Subhranshu said, "I know he has gone to Delhi but I do not know where in Delhi he has gone. My father is not well. His phone is also switched off."Subhranshu said Mukul Roy had brain surgery a few days ago.

"I do not know anything about how he suddenly went to Delhi. When I got the news yesterday, I went to the Kolkata airport and appealed to the airport authority and the airport police station to bring Mukul Roy back. But Airport Authority and Central Industrial Security Force did not cooperate in any way showing the flight takeoff protocol," Subhranshu said.

Former Union Railway Minister Mukul Roy is an MLA from the Krishnanagar North and had contested the polls on a BJP ticket. After he joined TMC, BJP demanded the cancellation of Roy`s membership from the Assembly.&nbsp;

Mukul Roy, India’s former railways' minister and senior member of Trinamool Congress Party (TMC) in West Bengal, has gone missing, his family members have claimed.

Roy’s son Subhragshu told PTI news agency that his father was "untraceable" and "missing" since late Monday evening.

"Till now I am unable to contact my father. He is untraceable," Subhragshu, a TMC leader, said.

Subhargshu said that his father left for Delhi on Monday evening on an Indigo flight. He was supposed to land at 9.55 pm (local time) in Delhi that day. But, since then, the veteran leader could not be traced.

On Monday night, Roy's son lodged a missing complaint at Kolkata's Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport Police Station.

Roy, considered to be the number two in the TMC leadership, had joined Narendra Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 2017 following differences with the party leadership.

He was made BJP national vice-president. Roy was influential in helping BJP win 18 of the state’s total 42 seats during the general elections in 2019 when he was in the saffron party fold.

After winning the 2021 assembly polls on a BJP ticket, Roy returned to the TMC fold. During the polls, Roy contested from the Krishnanagar Uttar Assembly seat in Nadia district. He managed to win but the BJP lost the polls.

Currently a West Bengal MLA, Roy previously served as the Union Railway Minister and a Minister of State in the Shipping Ministry during the Congress government in 2015.

Prior to the creation of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), Roy was a member of the Indian National Congress party.

Ever since his return to the Mamata Banerjee-led party, he has been keeping a low profile.

Ahead of party emergency meeting at West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee's residence at Kalighat on Saturday, Trinamool Congress Friday suspended party MLA from Bijpur and son of BJP leader Mukul Roy, Subhrangshu Roy, from the party for six years.&nbsp;

The party general secretary Partha Chatterjee said that Roy was suspended for making anti-party remarks and breaching the party discipline.&nbsp;

“We are suspending Subhrangshu Roy for six years. The way he is talking, it is clear that he has breached the party discipline. He has made anti-party remarks despite being in the party. The party will not accept it hence he is being suspended,” said Chatterjee.&nbsp;

Earlier in the day, Roy addressed media and claimed that he had no regrets for failing to provide the lead to the Trinamool Congress candidate Dinesh Trivedi from the Barrackpore constituency.&nbsp;

Roy said, “I had said I’ll ensure lead in Bijpur Assembly seat but I couldn’t. I lost to my father Mukul Roy. Neither am I angry nor have any regrets. I gave my best to my party, my father gave his best to his party too. But people chose him over me.”&nbsp;

Without naming Trinamool Congress’ general secretary Partha Chatterjee for his Kachrapara boy (garbage) remarks on Mukul, Roy said, “People of Barrackpore couldn’t take the fact that some leaders insulted the Roy family. They would often refer to my father as Kachrapara’s Kachra boy. This is unfortunate that despite me giving my best, Trinamool Congress could not win.”&nbsp;

After learning of the party’s announcement on his suspension, Roy said, “It was suffocating to be in that atmosphere. I feel better now. The person (Partha Chatterjee) who made those allegations on me, he should be answerable to the party, as we lost in seats which he was in charge.”&nbsp;

Speculations are rife after Mukul Roy, who was a number two in the party, switched camps and joined the BJP that his son Subhrangshu Roy would also join the BJP. However, time and again Roy had claimed that he would continue to be a part of the Trinamool Congress.&nbsp;

However, Roy’s suspension from the party has given credence to such speculation.&nbsp;

Biswas was shot dead on Saturday in Bengal’s Nadia district.

The incident occurred after Biswas got down the stage after inaugurating the Saraswati Puja and was walking towards his car when several miscreants appeared out of nowhere and fired at him.

He was immediately rushed to the Krishnagar district hospital where he was declared brought dead. Doctors said that he succumbed to bullet injuries. His body has been sent for autopsy.

Trinamool Congress general secretary and state education minister Partha Chatterjee said, “We are not going to spare those who killed him. Those responsible for his death will be brought to book. BJP is responsible for this death. There are some ‘gaddars’ who have killed him.”

Chatterjee added that he has asked senior leaders of the party to reach the hospital immediately and he may also leave for Nadia tomorrow.

The TMC Nadia district president Gaurishankar Dutta directly blamed BJP leader Mukul Roy for the murder. “Mukul Roy had been trying very hard to break TMC in the district. This is a political murder and we are sure that this is the handiwork of the BJP,” said Dutta.&nbsp;

Mukul Roy couldn’t be reached for comment.

Meanwhile, BJP state president Dilip Ghosh termed the murder as a result of TMC factional feud and ruled out the allegations of BJP’s involvement.&nbsp;

“This is a politics of murder that has engulfed the state. In the last couple of months, each time a TMC leader or a supporter is killed, they blame our party. I want the truth to be revealed through the investigation and the guilty be punished,” said Ghosh.&nbsp;

TMC swept the West Bengal Panchayat elections in May and the BJP emerged as the main challenger to the party. The CPI-M was at the third position, while the Congress was literally wiped out.&nbsp;

On the one hand, BJP's performance worked as a morale booster for the Saffron party, and a wake-up call for the TMC on the other. Panchayat election was the last significant electoral event before the upcoming Lok Sabha elections and BJP has emerged as a strong player.

Mamata, accused of dividing people of the state on the religious lines to secure its vote bank, is trying to balance it out to avoid the backlash of the Hindu community.

Last year, Banerjee drew massive criticism for her decision to impose restrictions on idol immersion during Durga Puja as it collided with Muharram. The Kolkata high court too slammed the state government for creating a divide between the two communities. “Let them (Hindus and Muslims) live in harmony, do not create a line between them," the court had observed.

To cover up the lapses, the chief minister, this year, announced a grant of Rs 28 Crore to 28,000 Puja committees across the state. This is not all. She also penned a theme song for a popular Durga Puja in the city.

The state government then also urged the Muslim community to avoid displaying weapons in processions during Muharram as this could hurt members of other communities.

Cyber War

To widen the use of social media in the run up for 2019 elections, Didi, last month, announced that her party will form a team of 30,000 'cyber sainiks' to counter BJP IT cell for their alleged vindictive politics.

Mamata said the warriors, without using any foul language, will take on the IT cell members of the BJP for their malicious attempts to defame TMC. According to reports, the warriors will respond to the BJP not just in Bengali but in Hindi as well.

BJP too is all set for the cyber war. Party chief Amit Shah and IT Cell head Amit Malviya met the IT cell members in Kolkata recently and reportedly asked them to take government's plans and policies to masses through social media.

TMC Hindi Wing&nbsp;

TMC has announced opening a Hindi wing in the party for a broader reach. Mamata also announced her desire to open a Hindu University in the state. This is again an effort by TMC to revamp its image and win the confidence of BJP's non-Bengali support base in the state.

Federal Front

Mamata Banerjee has been urging opposition parties to set aside their differences and come together to take on the BJP in 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Leading the pack to unite the opposition, Mamata has announced a massive anti-BJP rally to be held in Kolkata in January, 2019.

She has also met leaders of regional and opposition parties as her efforts to stitch an anti-BJP alliance. Several top opposition leaders, like &nbsp;Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao and former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah, have already confirmed their presence.

TMC has also planned to invite BSP Supremo Mayawati, Samajwadi Party Chief Akhilesh Yadav, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and Congress President Rahul Gandhi.&nbsp;

With all the above strategies, TMC is attempting to overhaul its image of being a party which indulges in minority appeasement and opportunistic politics.&nbsp;

To counter TMC's strategies, BJP has appointed Mukul Roy as the convener of the party's election management committee in West Bengal. Roy, who had quit the TMC to join BJP, is familiar with Mamata Banerjee's style of working.

Beginning December, the Saffron party will take out three Rath Yatras covering all the 42 parliamentary constituencies of the state. Through these Rath Yatras, the party also plans to reach out to the general people to garner support for Assam’s National Register of Citizens.

BJP is likely to score brownie points over TMC on NRC issue after Banerjee faced flak over her U-turn. Mamata, in 2005, had favoured NRC in West Bengal, claiming that the illegal immigrants in Bangladesh had spelt disaster for West Bengal.

However, this year she opposed the Assam’s National Register of Citizens.

West Bengal is crucial for the BJP for its growth in the Lok Sabha elections and the party is targetting at least 22 seats in the state. Meanwhile, TMC, confident of triggering a revolution by uniting the opposition to defeat the BJP in 2019, is putting its best efforts to maintain its stronghold in the state.&nbsp;

How TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee plans to take on BJP in West Bengal

West Bengal Police has arrested BJP leader Mukul Roy's brother-in-law from New Delhi for allegedly duping railway job seekers, a senior official said on Saturday.

Mr Roy's brother-in-law Srijan Roy was arrested from Delhi airport late last night by a team of police from Bizpur police station in North 24 Parganas district on the basis of complaints which were filed around six years ago, the police officer said.

Sir, how do you view the Padmavati controversy?

Creative freedom exists in our country. The entire noise which exists around the film Padmavati is not desirable and lot of people have taken freedom of speech for granted. Whatever has happened is sad and shouldn&rsquo;t have happened. Obviously CBFC is seized of the matter. IB ministry has made it very clear that matter should be left to CBFC. Controversies like these invites people to make comments out of turn. Only way to resolve the issue is through process and dialogue.

Is it one of creative freedom?&nbsp;

That is fair enough. I cannot give you an answer from an extreme point of view. Let&rsquo;s take Padmavati aside for a moment. The debate on artistic freedom has been age-old worldwide. In France, a piece of art became controversial and it was moved. The debate about good cinema and bad cinema continues. Padmavati is a huge film. There are many people who want to see the film but there are some question marks on it too. People who have not seen the film are raising the questions. There are apprehensions and I feel dialogue is the way forward. We can celebrate the life of the queen without hurting the sentiment which also needs to be looked into.

Deepika Padukone and other actors are being threatened?

That&rsquo;s not correct. Deepika is just an artist who portrayed the character. She did what she was asked for. Film is a director&rsquo;s medium. Threats are deplorable and no one subscribes to it. Deepika Padukone is a loved artist. The law of the land applies to everyone. There were lot of controversies around Ae Dil Hai Mushkil that subsequently got resolved. I&rsquo;m sure this too shall be resolved despite all the noise. It is going to find a good closure.

Do you think bans work in the age of the internet?

I would say that let process take its course. Even if CBFC doesn&rsquo;t agree, filmmakers will still have tribunals to look into the issue. People have the liberty to approach other bodies. Artistic disagreements can happen with the CBFC and other bodies. I think it should be resolved peacefully. Music is about peace as it provides reprieve from the grind of daily life. I just hope that at the end, good for everyone shall prevail.

Should films be judged from the position of a community&rsquo;s honour?

The CBFC has to do the job. Life is not what is happening to you but how you react to it. Film is a huge process. Any good form of art it goes through its metamorphosis. I&rsquo;m sure it will find its own way to reach people. As an artist, I pray for it and don&rsquo;t want to take sides by adding fuel to the fire. For an example, with Hussain there were many controversies and I would see him at Lokhandwala but no one would attack him. We aren&rsquo;t living a dream. People have their own apprehensions but I hope Padmavati reaches people in most beautiful manner. Cinema is about beauty. &nbsp;

Is the BJP well placed in Gujarat?

I&rsquo;m certain that BJP will surmount problems in Gujarat. Unless and until you move into a house you cannot decide what to do with it. GST is only having teething problems which is being addressed properly and at regular intervals. GST is the biggest reform. The debate will continue. If you don&rsquo;t bring larger section into the tax net it would not work in future for India. Modi has belled the cat and shown the courage to take reform agenda forward. Lot of praise should go to the Prime Minister Modi. We will win Gujarat. The debate only makes the follow-up of the election very interesting.

How do you view Rahul Gandhi&rsquo;s campaign. The Centre&#39;s economic policies have become an issue...

If Rahul Gandhi choses to take the side of the tax evaders, he will obviously find support. Lot of people wouldn&rsquo;t like to pay taxes. But lot of people also pay taxes. Honest people pay taxes. They pay taxes for the country as poor needs to be subsidised. The government needs to meet those goals. Rahul has a lineage and people will listen to him. But he is confusing people. All state elections in past have shown that the mandate has been for Modi. Congress, by promising reservations to Patels, is akin to fooling people as our senior leadership has pointed out.

Why couldn&rsquo;t this be solved by the local BJP leadership?

In a party, you cannot have six or seven Narendra Modi. He is the biggest leader and he will be at the centre stage. His move to centre from the state has not weakened the state unit. His vision is being implemented. You cannot have his replacement yet others are doing their job. He will be missed in key areas in the state but it doesn&rsquo;t mean that job is not being done.

Why is the BJP importing leaders like Mukul Roy from other parties?

Lot of people are getting convinced by our ideology. What is wrong in people joining us. People change with times and get attracted to other ideologies. Don&rsquo;t people in corporates move. Don&rsquo;t people want to do better in life. Coming to BJP is a promotion and I welcome them. When you are trying to do better in life then the better place to go is BJP. They are doing the right thing.

What were the hits and misses of the BJP campaign in West Bengal?

TMC and Left for a long period of time have practised different kind of politics. In remote areas, they have done nothing. Votes were purchased. 100 rupees also make a difference in some areas. They have given cycles in the name of government schemes.

But the BJP was not able to turn its support into seats?

BJP has not been traditionally present in West Bengal. It was Left and Congress and then TMC. We are taking steps. Mamata, out of 30 minutes, spends majority of time attacking BJP. We will do very well in 2019. We have the space in West Bengal.

Is the BJP prepared for the 2019 elections?

There will be few hits and misses but in the end, we will come out stronger. Our party has done exceedingly well under the Prime Minister. The reform agenda will continue.

Trinamool Congress today suspended Mukul Roy for six years after the senior party leader on Monday announced his decision to quit the party amid reports that he was planning to join the BJP. The TMC heavyweight met senior BJP leaders last week, fuelling speculation that he was getting close to the party, a media report quoted a source as saying.
