Two young left-arm seamers, Mukesh Choudhary and Mohsin Khan are in serious doubt to play in the upcoming IPL 2023 due to injuries. Mukesh and Mohsin got picked by Chennai Super Kings and Lucknow Super Giants, respectively, for INR 20 lacs each ahead of last year’s auction. They impressed everyone, including the critics and the pundits with their performances. This time, they are nursing injuries, and while they are in constant touch with their franchises, even training with them, both are running against time to get fit.

As things stand, Mukesh is suffering from a back injury and is currently training at the National Cricket Academy and undergoing rehab. Mohsin on the other hand is training with the Lucknow squad but is likely to spend time on the sidelines throughout the season.

Chennai Super Kings' Kasi Viswanathan, in a conversation with Cricbuzz, informed that while they are waiting for Mukesh to regain full fitness, they are not banking much on him.

It’s fair to say, the 26-year-old Mukesh was Chennai’s go-to-bowler in the previous season, picking 16 wickets in 13 matches. Though he was phenomenal with the new ball, he also showed glimpses of what he could do with the old ball by bowling good wide Yorkers.

"We are waiting on Mukesh but we do not have much hope. He was one of our bowling mainstays last year. It will be unfortunate if he misses out," CSK’s CEO Kasi Viswanathan.

Mukesh, a 24-year-old seamer from Uttar Pradesh, was talked about too, mainly for what he brought to the table. The lanky fast bowler had pace, angle, and variations – making him lethal against any batter in this format. Last season he picked 14 wickets.

Mukesh and Mohsin have joined a long list of players who are either missing the complete season or are doubtful. While Kyle Jamieson, Jasprit Bumrah, and Rishabh Pant are among those who are out for the whole season due to injuries, players like Lockie Ferguson, and Shreyas Iyer are among those who are doubtful for a few matches.

IPL 2023: Injured rookies Mukesh Choudhary, Mohsin Khan in serious doubt for whole season

Match 59 of the IPL 2022 edition saw the arch-rivals and bottom-lying Mumbai Indians (MI) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) take on each other at the iconic Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on Thursday evening (May 12). The match presented another opportunity for the five-time winners and already-eliminated Rohit Sharma-led MI franchise to add another two points in their kitty whereas it was a must-win clash for MS Dhoni's CSK.

Being alive in the playoffs race by the barest of margins, Chennai couldn't afford to let loose. However, nothing clicked for the defending champions and four-time winners as they conceded the game by 5 wickets. Being asked to bat first, amid power cut issues, CSK were off to a horrible start and soon reduced to 29-5 courtesy Daniel Sams' three quick strikes. Their top-order players couldn't even take the help of the DRS in the first ten deliveries due to the power cut. Barring Dhoni's 36*, no one stood tall as CSK folded for their second-lowest IPL total (97).

In reply, Rohit & Co. were also reduced to 33 for 4 due to Mukesh Choudhary's early blows. However, a sedate 48-run fifth-wicket stand between young guns Hrithik Shoukeen-Tilak Verma steadied MI's innings as they won by five wickets.

Umran Malik to Mohsin Khan: Young Indian pacers who have set the stage on fire in IPL 2022

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) pacer Mukesh Choudhary has been a success story for his side in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. The left-arm pacer had a sluggish start in the league but has grown into confidence with each passing game. He has been a regular feature in CSK's playing XI this season and has stepped up in the absence of Deepak Chahar.

With Chahar out of the season due to an injury, Choudhary has been used extensively by CSK in the Powerplay. He bowled a brilliant spell against Mumbai Indians picking up a three-wicket haul while conceding only 19 runs before scalping a four-wicket haul against Sunrisers Hyderabad in CSK's last outing.

Choudhary recently opened up on his journey from playing cricket in his local neighbourhood to realising his dream of playing in the IPL for CSK. The fast bowler revealed it was current CSK skipper and former India captain MS Dhoni's iconic six in the 2011 ODI World Cup final against Sri Lanka that inspired him to take cricket seriously.
