Children's charity World Vision has released what it said was "never-before-seen moments" of Meghan Markle during a humanitarian trip to India. <p>Talk about being born with a silver spoon in your mouth: the royal baby of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will have a particularly glittery one. And US tax authorities will be keen to know how much that utensil is worth.</p>

<p>That's because the baby will have dual nationality: British because of his father and US from his American mother, whose official title is the Duchess of Sussex.</p>

<p>"When one of the parents is American and has resided in the US for five years with at least two after the age of 14, the baby is automatically a citizen," said David Treitel, founder of American Tax Returns, a consultancy for US expatriates living in Britain.</p>

<p>"This is the case with Meghan," said Treitel, noting this case is a first in the British royal family.</p>

<p>US nationality comes with a bevvy of restrictive conditions: like any American who is born, grows up and dies anywhere in the world, year after year Meghan and Harry's child will have to show the Internal Revenue Service his or her tax status is clean.</p>

<p>From the moment of birth, money deposited in banks by the royal parents -- eager to ensure a bright future for their progeny -- must be duly reported to the tax man.</p>

<p>The same would apply to money that comes in if mom and dad decide, say, to have the child follow in the footsteps of his ex-actress mother to become a star on TV or in movies.</p>

<p>Forget about privacy, said Treitel. The IRS will "get to know a lot more about the couple's wealth" through the tax returns of the couple and their mother. "A lot more information is gonna get to the US," he added.</p>

<p>To wit: the IRS will demand that any valuable gifts from non-Americans to Harry and Meghan's child -- and he will be feted, won't he? -- also be declared as assets.</p>

<p>"Imagine the queen giving the baby some nice beautiful book of art from the royal collection, with paintings by Van Gogh or Miro. If this gift is worth more than USD 100,000, it is reportable," said Treitel.</p>

<p>However, baby shower gifts that Markle received recently in New York will not have to be declared if they came from fellow Americans, the expert said.</p>

<p>And although the baby and the mother will have to present forms that will be very time-consuming for their accountants, they may still not have to pay a lot in tax: these may be offset by duties paid in Britain, tax specialist Laura Saunders told The Wall Street Journal.</p>

<p>US tax authorities' efforts to keep a close watch on American expatriates can have serious consequences for people whose sole link to America is that they were simply born there.</p>

<p>Such is the case of so-called "Accidental Americans" - such as thousands of people in France who automatically received US citizenship because they were born in the US but left America as little kids and no longer have any links whatsoever to the country.</p>

<p>After some 29 million Americans watched the televised May 2018 wedding of Harry to Californian actress Markle, the prospect of the first British royal baby born to an American mother is proving even more compelling.</p>

<p>"It's going to be massive," said JD&nbsp;Heyman, deputy editor of People magazine. "When Meghan presents the baby when Meghan and Harry step out onto a balcony ... I think what you will see is an enormous outpouring of affection for both of them."</p>

<p>"The excitement around this equals the births of certainly Prince William's babies and, frankly, Harry and William's birth(s)" more than 30 years ago, Heyman added.</p>

<p>Despite America's War of Independence fought against Britain some 240 years ago, Americans have long been obsessed with British royals, who regularly feature on the front pages of celebrity magazines.</p>

<p>British producer Nick Bullen, a co-founder of subscription streaming service True Royalty TV, which launched last summer, said a colourful and dramatic history with larger-than-life figures such as King Henry VIII drives the modern fascination with the royal family.</p>

<p>"Imagine raising an American royal in Britain," Bullen said. "It's hard enough I think for a lot of Americans to come to London and get to grips with boarding schools and prep schools and little caps and little shorts and how we raise children in the UK.</p>

<p>"Will Dorian, Meghan's mum, be involved in the baby's raising?" Bullen said. "Will it have holidays in California? Will it be doing baby yoga? People want to know all that level of detail."</p>

<p>"I actually don't have too much of an opinion about it," shrugged Evan Jorgensen, as he strolled along the Venice Beach boardwalk in California on Monday.</p>

<p>They stated that comments must not be defamatory, obscene, threatening, or abusive; be discriminatory in any way; be "off-topic, irrelevant or unintelligible" or contain advertising.</p>

<p>The protocol said royal officials would determine whether the guidelines had been breached and anyone who did so would be blocked or have their comments hidden or deleted.</p>

<p>"We also reserve the right to send any comments we deem appropriate to law enforcement authorities for investigation as we feel necessary or is required by law," it said.</p>

<p>Some 3.87 million accounts follow the Royal Family's Twitter feed and another 1.69 follow that of Kensington Palace as the House of Windsor seeks to reach out directly to royal fans and showcase its work, with the overwhelming number of messages supportive.</p>

Pregnant Meghan Markle goes on charity visit, gets called 'fat lady'

<p>Meghan Markle, wife of Britain's Prince Harry, told royal well-wishers on Monday she was six months pregnant but the royal couple does not know the gender of their first baby, British media reported.</p>

<p>Former US actress Meghan and Harry married last May and announced in October that they were expecting their first child in the spring of 2019 but gave no specific details.</p>

<p>During a chat with some of the large crowd that turned out for their visit to Birkenhead in northern England on Monday, Meghan, 37, revealed she was six months pregnant, suggesting the latest addition to the British royal family would be due sometime in April.</p>

<p>During their trip to Birkenhead, the couple's first joint engagement of the year, they viewed a new statue erected to mark the centenary of the death of World War One poet Wilfred Owen before visiting a number of local community organisations.</p>

<p>Local resident Helen O'Toole, a mother of seven, said Meghan had asked her for some advice.</p>

<p>"I said ‘breathe and take anything that they offer you’ and she just clutched her little baby bump and laughed. It was really lovely," she told Reuters.</p>
