It said the roles of “editors, print production staff, subeditors, proofreaders and photo editors will no longer exist as they do today”, according to the email.

In February, CEO Mathias Döpfner announced the company's transition into a "purely digital media company." In line with this, the recent message emphasises the potential role of AI tools, including ChatGPT, in revolutionising independent journalism. Döpfner stated that these tools have the capability to greatly improve the quality of journalism or even replace it entirely.

The radio broadcaster was recently outspoken about a recent oil spill which had affected the province, illegal gambling and politics.

“He told me before that he’s receiving threats but he didn’t elaborate,” Joaquin said, while speaking AFP. “He mentioned to me that he wanted a change in his line of work, that’s why he put up a chicken farm, because he wants to go quiet," he added.&nbsp;

Delorino said that police were carrying out an investigation if Bunduquin had an enemy or if he was involved in a personnel quarrel.

“When perpetrators of attacks on media are not held to account and victims of these attacks do not get justice, future attacks become more likely," he added.&nbsp;

Since the News Media Bargaining Code took effect, various tech firms including Meta and Alphabet had inked more than 30 deals with media outlets, compensating them for content which generated clicks and advertising dollars, the report added.

“Every morning, the police would call me to check my plan for the day. They order me not to go anywhere, see anyone or say anything to them,” said one lawyer who was disbarred and had his law firm closed for defending politically sensitive cases.&nbsp;The message is clear: “We are watching your every move.”
