Lukaku, who did not take part in United's pre-season matches due to injury, was sold to Inter for a reported fee of €80 million ($89.60 million) on deadline day and Solskjaer said the transfer was a win-win situation for all parties concerned.&nbsp;

The former Manchester United and Real Madrid forward reached a financial settlement with her one year after the incident.

He has always denied allegations of sexual assault, insisting their encounter was consensual.

The Clark County District Attorney's Office said it had received a report from Mayorga -- who it identified only as "V" -- on June 13, 2009, reporting that she had been the victim of a sexual assault.

Police could not conduct "any meaningful investigation" at the time because she declined to say who assaulted her or where it occurred, the office said in a statement.

As a result, detectives were "unable to search for and impound vital forensic evidence," and video showing Ronaldo and Mayorga together was lost, it added.

Mayorga contacted police in August of last year to ask that the case be reopened, at which point she named Ronaldo as the alleged assailant.

The case was reopened "in spite of the passage of over nine-year," prosecutors said.

"Based upon a review of the information presented at this time, the allegations of sexual assault against Cristiano Ronaldo cannot be proven beyond a reasonable doubt," prosecutors said. "Therefore, no charges will be forthcoming."

#MeToo movement

Mayorga's attorney has stated that she agreed to an out-of-court settlement to keep her name from going public but was later inspired to speak out by the #MeToo movement against sexual harassment.

Mayorga has also said that her emotional trauma at the time did not allow her to participate in the mediation process for the financial settlement.

Neither Ronaldo's nor Mayorga's lawyers responded to AFP's request for comment on the decision to end the investigation.

The player has yet to respond on social media.

In October last year, Ronaldo said he was "an exemplary person."

"I know who I am and what I did. The truth will come out," he told France Football magazine.

"And the people who criticize me and who expose my life today, who make a song and dance about it, these people will see."

The allegations have taken a toll on his life, and in particular, on his family, he said.

In January, a Spanish court handed Ronaldo a suspended two-year prison sentence for committing tax fraud while he was at Real Madrid.

This was immediately reduced to a fine of 365,000 euros ($410,000), on top of another penalty of 3.2 million euros ($3.6 million).

The twelfth edition of Cricket World Cup is over but Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is still affected by the frenzy as he enjoyed playing cricket during United's&nbsp;pre-season friendly tour in Australia.&nbsp;

In Australia, Manchester United played two matches against Perth&nbsp;Glory and Leeds. In the first match, Marcus Rashford and James Garner scored as Solskjaer's side defeated Perth&nbsp;2-0. In the second match, the Red Devils thrashed their arch-rivals Leeds 4-0.&nbsp;

The matches during Australia tour were played at the Optus Stadium in Perth, which is quite close to the WACA — the Western Australian Cricket Association stadium, where Solskjaer tried his hands on the game of cricket.&nbsp;

In a video uploaded by Manchester United's Twitter handle, Solskjaer can be seen taking the strike. He lost&nbsp;his wicket on the first ball he faced.

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on Wednesday dismissed speculation that Paul Pogba is to leave Old Trafford, saying there had been "no bids" for the midfielder and "agents talk all the time". The 26-year-old World Cup-winner's future has overshadowed United's pre-season tour since they arrived in Perth on Monday, with Real Madrid and Juventus rumoured as possible destinations. We are Manchester United, we don't have to sell players," he said at a press conference after training ahead of matches in the Western Australia city against Perth Glory on Saturday and Leed United on Tuesday. "I'm positive, of course with David I've said many times how lucky I am and happy we are to have him in goal," he added. United have been linked with Southampton's Mario Lemina and Spurs playmaker Christian Eriksen among others, but the United manager remained coy on his transfer targets. "We are still in the market. We are patient. We don't have to overspend. We want the right players for the right price," he said. Pogba has struggled since returning to Old Trafford from Juventus in a club-record deal in 2016.

He was included in the PFA Team of the Year last season but his often-lethargic performances split opinion among supporters, while he reportedly had a major falling-out with former United boss Jose Mourinho.

Talking to The Times last week, Pogba's agent Mino Raiola said he had made the club aware he was looking to move the player on and offered no assurances that the 26-year-old would travel for the tour.

"Everyone knows the willingness of Paul to move on. We are in the process of that. Everyone knows what the feelings of Paul are," Raiola said.

Romelu Lukaku, another United player linked with a summer departure to Inter Milan, is included among the 28-man party, as are new signings Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Daniel James.

Solskjaer's side will take on Perth Glory and Leeds in Australia before continuing on for pre-season games in Singapore and China.

Former Manchester United captain Gary Neville has urged coaches and managers to accept their players will use social media but said players should take stock of whether their videos will create a positive impression.

United midfielder Jesse Lingard has recently been criticised for videos filmed in his hotel bedroom and posted on Instagram while on holiday in Miami Beach with teammate Marcus Rashford.

Neville, who won eight Premier League titles with United under Alex Ferguson's management and is now a pundit for Sky Sports television, said there was little point in coaches opposing social media use.

Speaking to a conference of coaches and sports scientists in Manchester, Neville said there was a danger of older people in the game appearing out of touch.

"I found myself challenging myself as a pundit in these last two or three years, around the changing type of players, the changing type of media… it’s a dilemma for all traditional based coaches," he said.

"The idea of a guy dressing up, dancing, on social media, what we would say looking a 'bit of a prat' and not winning football matches, not playing that well, is a really bad cocktail.

"But then on the other side of it you think – he is giving his all, he is a young lad, social media now is the modern form of media, so us old bastards – get over it, get over it."

Neville said that with the decline of traditional newspapers, players were inevitably going to be drawn to online and social media.

"The way in which players communicate with fans is through their social media accounts, it's never going to change, don’t try to stop it, maybe create some frameworks, some perimeters to work within.

"If you are a coach – move with the times, embrace it, accept it... it is not going to change, it is 2019 and not 2001 or 1996," he added.

But Neville said that players such as Lingard needed to consider carefully what kind of content they put out to their followers.

"I would like to think that someone is ringing him up this morning and explaining to him that that isn’t really going to help him," he said.

"He looks like he works really hard in every single game I have seen him. Why would you do something that is potentially going to bring you criticism?

"We all make mistakes, I have made loads, just be sensible, just make the right calls. Is it going to help me? Is it going to make me a better player? Is it going to make people feel better about me? Is it going to actually earn me money? Is it going to make my coach like me more or less?

"Ask yourself a few questions before you do things. If the answers come up negative then it’s probably best not doing it.&nbsp;It is just having that sort of mindset," he added.

Neville said social media antics of the modern player were "absolutely a lesser evil" than players who in the past drank heavily during the close-season and returned to pre-season training out of shape.

“These players today run faster, they eat better, they drink less alcohol. They’re all running 13, 14km a match, some of them are running 1500m at high intensity and 20 years ago Gary Neville and his team mates weren’t doing that."
