Manchester City defender Josko Gvardiol struggled to find his feet at the Premier League club but is now growing in confidence after his goal-scoring exploits in the title run-in, manager Pep Guardiola said. The 22-year-old left back joined the treble winners from German club RB Leipzig in August, signing a five-year deal for a reported fee of 90 million euros ($97 million).

The Croatian international, who had not scored in his previous 32 appearances for City, has now netted five times in his last seven matches to help his side's push towards a record fourth successive title. "There is an aspect in football and in life and that is confidence, confidence when you do things and it's game time, a lot of games and talking about the not proper things that you do and the good things," Guardiola told reporters after Saturday's 4-0 thrashing of Fulham.

"And you cannot forget it is his first Premier League season... so it is not easy to handle it and he struggled in the beginning a little bit, because he came into a team who had just won the treble and he was a little bit shy. "He signed for many, many years and he has proved to himself that he can do it and play with us."

Guardiola gave his players three days off after their 5-1 home win over Wolverhampton Wanderers this month. "On the first day, he (Gvardiol) went into the training centre to make a recovery, so his focus is football and he wants to be better and better and when this happens, you have something special on your hands," the Spaniard said.

Manchester City could take&nbsp;yet&nbsp;another giant step towards the Premier League title over the weekend as they face Fulham. The defending champions will look to become the first team in the history of English football to be crowned champions for four consecutive seasons. But Arsenal&nbsp;sitting&nbsp;top&nbsp;of the Premier League standings and with&nbsp;a tight margin for error, when&nbsp;could Man City be crowned the champions of England at the earliest?&nbsp;

<h2>When could City become champions?</h2>

As things stand, City can win the Premier League title with three wins in the three remaining matches of the season, which would&nbsp;therefore&nbsp;see&nbsp;them become champions on the&nbsp;final day of the season.&nbsp;However, they could be champions as early as Tuesday (May 14) evening if results go their way. Currently on 82 points, City could attain 88 points by Tuesday evening if they beat both Fulham and Spurs in their next two matches.&nbsp;

A defeat for Arsenal against Manchester United at Old Trafford could see them reach only a maximum of 86 points before the final weekend. Therefore, City will be crowned champions on Tuesday if they win both their next two matches and Arsenal lose at Old Trafford.

Even a draw for Arsenal against United will see City crowned champions on Tuesday if they beat Ange Postecoglou’s side.

However, Pep Guardiola’s side won’t be crowned champions on the weekend in any&nbsp;set of&nbsp;results.&nbsp;

<h2>What happens if both&nbsp;City,&nbsp;Arsenal end with the same points?</h2>

In case&nbsp;both Man City and Arsenal end with the same points, then the Premier League title will be decided on goal difference (GD). As things stand, Arsenal have a superior goal difference of +60&nbsp;while&nbsp;Man City have +54. Much will depend on how many goals City and Arsenal score to win their matches in the remainder of the season. Interestingly, Man City remain the only team in the history of the Premier League to win the title on GD&nbsp;having&nbsp; done&nbsp;so&nbsp;in the 2011-12 season when they finished level with Man United on 89 points each.&nbsp;

When could Man City win Premier League title at earliest? Here are all details

With little over a week&nbsp;to go&nbsp;before the Premier League season’s conclusion, Arsenal will be optimistic to win the title and end their two-decade wait to lift the English football’s holy grail. Arsenal&nbsp;with&nbsp;two matches to go are on the brink of lifting the title&nbsp;but&nbsp;that won’t happen without a helping hand. Sitting&nbsp;top&nbsp;of the Premier League standings at the time of writing, Arsenal have 83 points from 36 matches&nbsp;while&nbsp;Manchester City in second place have 82 points from 35&nbsp;matches.&nbsp;

<h2>What needs to happen for Arsenal to win the Premier League?</h2>

The odds remain against the Gunners winning the Premier League title as Manchester City hold their fate in their own hands. Three wins in three matches for Pep Guardiola’s men will see them get crowned champions, having no bearing on what Arsenal do in their remaining two&nbsp;matches. Considering the best scenario for Mikel Arteta’s men, they need to win both their matches and hope Man City don’t surpass their points tally. &nbsp;

This&nbsp;would mean Arsenal finish on 89 points while Man City need to finish on 88 points or fewer. For City to finish with that point, they should lose at least one match or draw two&nbsp;matches&nbsp;in their remaining three&nbsp;matches.&nbsp;

Man City’s three matches remaining include Fulham (Saturday), Spurs (Tuesday) and West Ham United (May 18). Arsenal could be given a big helping hand by arch-rivals Spurs if they beat Man City on Tuesday, but having lost four consecutive&nbsp;matches&nbsp;the result is&nbsp;highly unlikely.

How can Arsenal win the Premier League title? Here are details

The war of words between Roy Keane and Erling Haaland ceases to end. The former Manchester United player-turned-pundit has slammed the Norwegian for his reaction to the substitution made by manager Pep Guardiola against Wolverhampton Wanderers at the weekend.&nbsp;

After a relatively lean patch, Haaland bagged four goals against Wolves but looked furious when he was put on the bench by the manager. Keane picked up on the matter and said Haaland was acting like a "spoiled brat".

"I think we saw Haaland yesterday brought off not too happy, behaving like a spoiled brat. I think when you have the spat as well with the manager and obviously your Star Man, it doesn't help that results aren't going your way," said Keane.&nbsp;

"But because they win the game, he scores goals it's almost forgotten about," he added.&nbsp;

Quizzed&nbsp;if Haaland's animated reaction to being subbed off was justified, Keane said: "No, no. No it's not."

Keane's statement is expected to increase the bitterness between him and Haaland as the two have been going at each other.&nbsp;

“I don’t really care that much about that man, so that’s all right,” Haaland told&nbsp;Viaplay

Haaland's rather bitter response toward Keane could also stem from the long-running feud the Manchester United player had with his father Alfie Haaland.

Notably, Keane was notoriously sent off for a horrible tackle with Haaland senior in 2001. The tackle was partly responsible for Alfie having to cut short his playing career.

<h2>What did Keane say?</h2>

In March, after City and Arsenal played a goalless draw where Haaland was&nbsp;anonymous for large portions of the game, Keane launched a scathing attack on the Norwegian for being a passenger for the team.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

"The levels of his general play is so poor. Not just today, I think his laying stuff off, headers, whatever it might be - in front of goal he's the best in the world - but for his general play for such a player it is so poor," Keane told&nbsp;Sky Sports.

Despite his limitations, Haaland has been a goal-scoring machine for City who are eyeing a historical fourth Premier League title on the trot.&nbsp;

‘Don’t care about that man’: Erling Haaland’s savage response to Roy Keane’s ‘League Two’ comment

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has backed England to win Euro 2024 if they follow his club's route to continental glory.

Guardiola finally guided City to their first Champions League crown last season after a number of near misses earlier in his reign.

The Spaniard feels Gareth Southgate can do the same with England following their own painful failures on the brink of silverware.

England were beaten in the European Championship final by Italy on penalties at Wembley in 2021, lost the World Cup semi-final against Croatia in 2018 and were beaten by France in the 2022 World Cup quarter-finals.

"They are really good. It's not just the talent of the strikers, it's the whole package, the whole group and Gareth knows perfectly what he has to do," Guardiola told reporters on Friday.

"So, I have the feeling, everyone has the feeling, that the England national team, (from) the last events - the World Cup and European Championship - they make steps, they are on the verge, they are really close. They lost a final, got to a semi-final.

"When you arrive at these stages every two years, it's going to happen. It's quite similar to us, we were close, and in the end we lifted it."

Guardiola believes the English passion for football, which has often weighed heavily on their players at tournaments, will prove a more uplifting factor this time.

"I see the reaction when they play European Cups or World Cups, people go crazy on the streets. They go crazy for the national team," Guardiola said.

"That proves how proud they are and, at the end of the day, as a football player, that is the best, your country is proud of what you are doing for your country, and the way you are playing, reaching the last stages.

"Just believe it. If they believe it, they can do it. Believe it, believe it, they can do it."

City forward Phil Foden could have a key role to play for England after an outstanding season at club level.

The 23-year-old's performances were recognised as he was named the Football Writers' Association men's Player of the Year on Friday.

Guardiola believes Foden, who has progressed through the club's youth ranks to become one of their most important players, could go on to become one of City's greatest ever.

"This club has a long, long history. You can't forget what happened with the players who played at Maine Road, like everyone knows. I think the club has been built with many, many top-quality players," he said.

"But I have the feeling if he continues his career until the end here, and continues that level, he can be one of the best, that's for sure."

Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola places his bet on England for Euro 2024 glory

Arsenal’s luck in the Premier League title race once again was on the showcase after the side was awarded a controversial penalty in their match against Bournemouth on Saturday (May 4). The incident&nbsp;which&nbsp;did not go well with the away&nbsp;fans&nbsp;was widely condemned&nbsp;on the internet, but Bukayo Saka stepped up to score as the Gunners had a halftime lead of 1-0. At the time of writing, the lead also sees Arsenal open up a four-point gap at the top of the Premier League standings&nbsp;with&nbsp;Manchester City having two matches in hand.&nbsp;

In the 42nd minute of the match at the Emirates Stadium in London, referee David Coote decided to give a penalty for a foul on Arsenal attacker Kai Havertz. While the naked eyes showed that there was a touch by goalkeeper Mark Travers on Havertz, upon replay it was spotted that the touch was engineered by the attacker on the goalkeeper. However, the benefit of the doubt was given in the home side’s favour and the penalty stood despite VAR being used in the process.&nbsp;

The resulting penalty was converted by Saka which saw the Gunners take a 1-0 lead at the break. The lead now sees Arsenal go on 83 points in the Premier League standings with two matches to go. On the other hand, Man City are on 79 points from 34 matches and can narrow the gap to one point by the end of the night when they face Wolves later on Sunday.&nbsp;

Arsenal’s luck in the Premier League title race once again was on the showcase after the side was awarded a controversial penalty in their match against Bournemouth on Saturday (May 4). The incident which did not go well with the away fans was widely condemned on the internet, but Bukayo Saka stepped up to score as the Gunners had a halftime lead of 1-0. At the time of writing, the lead also sees Arsenal open up a four-point gap at the top of the Premier League standings with Manchester City having two matches in hand. 🚨🚨| PENALTY TO ARSENAL!!pic.twitter.com/zI53R0CDkb — CentreGoals. Premier League: Arsenal gifted controversial penalty by referee in Bournemouth clash - WATCH

Ahead of their important Premier League home game versus Wolverhampton Wanderers&nbsp;on Saturday (May 4), Manchester City were dealt a huge blow as goalkeeper Ederson is set to miss the game due to injury concerns. Ederson was subbed off at half-time in his side's 2-0 win at Nottingham Forest last weekend after sustaining a shoulder injury&nbsp;following a collision with Wily Boly of Nottingham. He didn't make a return and later left the stadium in a sling.

While the Athletic, via GOAL, has stated that Ederson's injury isn't very serious and he is expected to return during the end of the Premier League season, he is likely to miss the upcoming game versus the Wolves -- due to the lack of gap between the two games.

Premier League: Big blow for Man City as goalkeeper Ederson to miss Wolves clash - Reports

Premier League clubs voted in a historic decision on Monday (April 29) after they agreed to implement a spending cap to complete the economic and legal analysis needed for such a model.

Premier League clubs voted in a historic decision on Monday (April 29) after they agreed to implement a spending cap to complete the economic and legal analysis needed for such a model. The spending cap model will be presented to clubs before a final vote at the league's Annual General Meeting in June. The decision will bridge the gap between the spending power of big spending rich clubs and low-budget clubs in the Premier League and could come into effect from the 2025-26 season. Premier League clubs go for historic vote "We will obviously wait to see further details of these specific proposals, but we have always been clear that we would oppose any measure that would place a 'hard' cap on player wages," the Professional Footballers' Association (PFA) said. "There is an established process in place to ensure that proposals like this, which would directly impact our members, have to be properly consulted on," the statement added. The new spending cap rule will replace the now-existing Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR) from 2025-26. The new rule will prevent mega-rich clubs from overspending in upcoming seasons helping bring parity for clubs on the pitch. ALSO READ | ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024: Latest updates of all squads named so far The cap, discussed at a Premier League shareholders' meeting on Monday, would be based on how much money the lowest-earning club in the English top flight makes from television rights and could come into effect as early as the 2025-26 season. Of the present 20 clubs in the Premier League, 16 voted in favour of the decision while Chelsea abstained. Manchester City, Manchester United and Aston Villa dissented from the decision. Premier League clubs had agreed in principle to introduce new financial rules next season, voting in April for squad cost ratio rules to replace PSR, which allows clubs to lose £105 million ($131.93 million) in a three-season period. Clubs will likely be limited to spending 85% of their revenue on transfers, wages and agents' fees if the new rules are adopted at the AGM in June.

Premier League: Manchester City stay close to table-toppers Arsenal with win over Nottingham Forest

Arsenal held on to beat battling local rivals Tottenham Hotspur 3-2 away and move four points clear at the top of the Premier League after an emphatic first-half display and a nervous second period in an electric derby atmosphere on Sunday.

An own goal by Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and efforts from Bukayo Saka and Kai Havertz put the Gunners in control at halftime and although Spurs fought back through Cristian Romero's strike and a Son Heung-min penalty the visitors claimed the three points.

The victory moved Mikel Arteta's Gunners further ahead of second-placed champions Manchester City, who have two games in hand and visit lowly Nottingham Forest later on Sunday.

Liverpool are in third spot a point behind City but like Arsenal having played 35 matches with three games left.

Tottenham's defeat hit their hopes of playing Champions League football next season as they stand seven points off fourth-placed Aston Villa, albeit still with two games in hand.

Arsenal arrived at the home of their neighbours desperate for a win to boost their title challenge and got the perfect start after 15 minutes when midfielder Hojbjerg headed the ball back into his own net from a corner.

Tottenham reacted to going behind and defender Romero hit the outside of the post from a James Maddison cross.

The hosts thought they had equalised when Micky van de Ven placed the ball past keeper David Raya after Pedro Porro's strike deflected to him and the stadium erupted but after a long delay the goal was ruled out by VAR for offside.

The Gunners extended their lead just before the half hour mark, though, when a counter-attack was calmly finished by Saka after Spurs' Dejan Kulusevski slipped in the Arsenal area.

Havertz added the third with a simple header from a corner that eluded the home defence and the visitors were flying.

It was the first time shell-shocked Tottenham had fallen 3-0 behind at home to bitter rivals Arsenal since 1959.

Spurs replaced Rodrigo Bentancur with Pape Matar Sarr at halftime and they pulled a goal back through Romero just past the hour after Raya played the ball straight to him and the Argentine found the bottom corner to lift the home fans.

Tottenham were awarded a penalty after a VAR check in the 87th minute after Declan Rice kicked Ben Davies just inside the area when the Arsenal midfielder tried to clear the ball and Son stepped up to convert the spot-kick as the noise level rose.

Spurs piled on the pressure but could not breach the Arsenal defence again and the visitors were left to celebrate the win and a healthy lead in the thrilling title race.

Premier League: Arsenal beat Spurs in thriller to keep title hopes alive

Phil Foden struck twice as Manchester&nbsp;City&nbsp;stepped up their bid for a fourth Premier League crown in a row with a ruthless 4-0 victory at Brighton &amp; Hove Albion on Thursday. A day after Liverpool's title challenge suffered a huge blow with a 2-0 defeat at Everton,&nbsp;City&nbsp;kept up the pressure on leaders Arsenal with a dominant display that left them one point behind the London club with a game in hand.

"The statement is three points,"&nbsp;City&nbsp;manager Pep Guardiola told Sky Sports. "There are five games left, we know the margins are so tight. We have to win every one. Each game we are closer." He added that it remains very much a three-team race. "What happened to Liverpool, two defeats in a row, it can happen to Arsenal, it can happen to us," Guardiola said. "What is important is that still we are there. There is a lot of games to play."

Kevin De Bruyne's superb diving header put&nbsp;City, missing top scorer Erling Haaland due to injury, ahead in the 17th minute. "It doesn't happen too much, does it? I think the only way I could reach it was jumping to the ball, and it goes in like a little lob, but it's obviously not something I'm really good at," De Bruyne said after netting his first headed goal in the Premier League.

DEFENSIVE ERRORS

Foden scored his first with a deflected free kick and Brighton defensive errors allowed Bernardo Silva to win the ball and set up the England midfielder to sweep a shot into the bottom corner before halftime. "With Kev's first goal and a bit lucky with my second goal, it settled us a little bit and we grew into the game, in the first half was frightening with the way we attacked," Foden said.

Foden, whose hat-trick led&nbsp;City&nbsp;to a 4-1 win over Aston Villa three weeks ago, became only the third player to score 50 top-flight goals under manager Pep Guardiola aged 23 or younger, after Lionel Messi and Haaland. Julian Alvarez completed the rout midway through the second half and Brighton, who remained 11th in the table, never looked capable of launching a fightback.

Manchester&nbsp;City&nbsp;are unbeaten in 30 games in all competitions with 24 wins and six draws, making them the third English top-flight side to reach that landmark after Nottingham Forest (40 in 1978) and Manchester United (34 in 1993-94 and 33 in 1998-99).

Their last loss excluding penalty shootouts was against Aston Villa in early December. Brighton's best chance came when&nbsp;City&nbsp;keeper Ederson gifted them a late opportunity when he raced out of his box, only to fire the ball straight at Odeluga Offiah who failed to take advantage.

"City&nbsp;are one of the best teams in the world and today they played very well," Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi said.

Premier League: Manchester City thrash Brighton to keep pressure on Arsenal

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp admitted that his side weren't good enough on Wednesday (Apr 24) against Everton and now need a crisis at Arsenal and Manchester City for a chance to win the Premier League (PL) title. Second-placed Liverpool lost 2-0 against Everton in Merseyside derby.

Speaking after the match, Klopp said: "I don't know why I need to answer the question, but I know how it works," Klopp said. "You can see the table. We need a crisis at Arsenal and City, so they need to not win games as we haven't done tonight. Arsenal and City must have a very bad moment.

"I can only apologise for today to the people. We should have done better but we didn't. Our performance wasn't good enough and I am very disappointed.

"We defended the first goal three times and handed it to Everton on a plate and the second goal could probably have been defended better.

"And for us, each miss gave Everton more momentum. We never had it, but we gave them more."

Liverpool now stand at 74 points with four more games to play. They are trailing Arsenal by three points which are at the top with 77 points in same number of games. In the race is also Manchester City who are at 73 points but in 32 games.

Liverpool next play against West Ham and Klopp admitted that: "West Ham will probably be waiting for us [on Saturday] and rubbing their hands, hoping that we turn up on one leg, but we have to recover for that."

For the next three games after West Ham, Liverpool face Tottenham Hotspur on May 5, Aston Villa on May 14, and Wolves on May 19.

Liverpool can't afford to lose anymore games if they wish to send off Klopp, who has decided to step down after the season, with a title.

Premier League: 'Need crisis at Arsenal and City,' says Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp after loss vs Everton

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has sided with the referees amid the ongoing controversy after Nottingham Forest questioned the integrity of officials in the Premier League.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has sided with the referees amid the ongoing controversy after Nottingham Forest questioned the integrity of officials in the Premier League. Guardiola said he "never had doubts" as the referees were doing their best on the field. "They do their job as best as possible. When they do the job, they want to do it well. The game is so difficult. It is fast and quick. Decisions have to be made in one instant. It's not easy," Guardiola said. "They feel the pressure, we put pressure on them for the passion of the game, for the moment. When I sit here and reflect they try to do their best and are under scrutiny with the cameras there," he added. While Guardiola extends support to the referees, fans have questioned whether it is because of Manchester City's UAE links and how it benefits the officials and club. Notably, City is owned by UAE Vice President Sheikh Mansour and a significant number of PL referees freelance in the UAE and Saudi Arabia when the league is not on. There have been demands that PL stop the freelancing gigs as City might receive favourable calls in their favour from the referees. What happened with Forest? Guardiola's statement comes after Forest on Sunday (Apr 21) issued a scathing statement after they were allegedly denied three penalties, according to their penalty consultant Mark Clattenburg. Forest went on to lose the match 0-2 against Everton and find themselves just one point off Luton Town, who occupy the final relegation spot. According to Forest, VAR official Stuart Attwell was a Luton fan and could have given the wrong instructions to the on-field referee leading to their defeat. The consequences of Sunday’s result could see Forest get relegated at the end of the season. Also read | Premier League takes jibe at Nottingham Forest for questioning officials’ integrity on social media After Forest levelled the accusations, the Premier League issued a strongly-worded statement saying it was disappointed by the actions of the club. “The Premier League was extremely disappointed to read the comments made by Nottingham Forest on social media yesterday, following its match against Everton,” Premier League wrote on their X handle. “We note the FA has confirmed it will be investigating the club’s statement. It is never appropriate to improperly question the integrity of match officials, and the nature of these comments means the Premier League will also be investigating the matter in relation to the League’s Rules,” the statement added. Kai Havertz and Ben White scored twice as Arsenal thrashed Chelsea 5-0 on Tuesday to surge ahead in the Premier League title race and ramp up the pressure on Liverpool and Manchester City.

Leandro Trossard was also on target in a record win over Chelsea for the Gunners, who move three points clear of Liverpool and four of Manchester City.

The destiny of the title remains in City's hands as the defending champions have two games in hand.

Liverpool have also played one fewer game than Arsenal and are in action at Everton in the Merseyside derby on Wednesday.

However, Mikel Arteta's men's goal difference advantage now looks unassailable should it become decisive in the title race.

"We have made our people very proud, it is a big derby for us and I know what it means," said Arteta.

"We started the game really well but didn’t convert all our chances - we were a bit sloppy in certain areas of the pitch.

"In the second half we were much more disciplined and created chances and were ruthless in front of goal."

Chelsea and Arsenal's title rivals were dealt a huge blow before kick-off as the Blues' danger man Cole Palmer was ruled out due to illness.

Palmer has scored or assisted nearly 50 percent of Chelsea's Premier League goals this season and his presence was badly missed by the visitors.

Despite enduring a disappointing first season under Mauricio Pochettino, Chelsea had been unbeaten in eight consecutive league games prior to their FA Cup semi-final defeat to Manchester City on Saturday.

But they were blown away by an Arsenal side keen to reaffirm their title credentials after losing their last home game to Aston Villa.

"So difficult (a) result and performance (to accept) because it is not nice to see your team playing like this from the beginning of the game," said Pochettino.

"Today we didn't compete against a team fighting for the Premier League. We need to be aware we need to compete in a different way."

The hosts flew out of the blocks and were in front inside five minutes.

The Belgian has proved to be a far more productive signing and smashed in his 15th goal of the season at Djordje Petrovic's near post.

"In the second half we were much more disciplined and created chances and were ruthless in front of goal." Chelsea and Arsenal's title rivals were dealt a huge blow before kick-off as the Blues' danger man Cole Palmer was ruled out due to illness. We need to be aware we need to compete in a different way." The hosts flew out of the blocks and were in front inside five minutes. <h2>City-Real square off in Manchester</h2>

Having served a treat for fans in Madrid with an entertaining 3-3 draw, both the giants of the modern game will head into the contest with an ambition to win the title. Real beat City in the 2022 semifinal over two legs while Pep Guardiola’s men exacted revenge in the 2022-23 season when they beat Real at the same stage. Interestingly, whenever Real and City have faced in the knockout stage of the competition, the winner has gone on to win the Champions League.

Real have never won on City soil and will have a duck to break, they head into the contest on the back of a 1-0 win in La Liga against Mallorca. The win saw them in control of their La Liga fate where they currently sit top of the table. In their last visit to the Etihad Stadium, Carlo Ancelotti’e side lost 4-0 with City advancing to the final to win the Champions League.

City will enter the second leg as favourites though having deposited Luton Town over the weekend. Players like Rodri, Phil Foden and John Stones were rested for the match. City will have the added boost of calling Ederson into the Playing XI, having been passed fit. Kevin de Bruyne and Erling Haaland will also be in the spotlight during the match.

Premier League: We won the game with him - Guardiola lavishes praise at ‘assists-king’ De Bruyne in Palace win

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has hit back at Roy Keane for his remarks on striker Erling Haaland after the goalless draw against Arsenal on Sunday (Mar 31). City dropped two points at home in the fixture and were criticised by Keane who termed Haaland as a League 2 (fourth division of English football) striker for his unimpressive performance. However, Pep has now hit back at&nbsp;Keane, claiming he is a second or third-division manager.

<h2>Pep hits back at Keane</h2>

"I do not agree with him, absolutely not. He's a manager for the second or third league? I don't think so," said Guardiola.

"He's the best striker in the world and he helped us win what we won last season. The reason why we didn't create many chances [vs Arsenal] was not Erling, it's that we need more presence in the final third with more people,” Guardiola added.

Keane, while in the studio for Sky Sports after the City-Arsenal match claimed that Haaland was the worst player on the pitch. He also claimed that the Norwegian needs to improve his overall game if he has to achieve long-term success.

"He's almost like a League Two player - that's the way I look at him. His general play has to improve. It will do over the next few years. [He's a] brilliant striker but he has to improve his overall game,” Keane had said on Haaland after Manchester City’s goalless draw against Arsenal on Sunday.

<h2>City host Villa</h2>

City will host Aston Villa in a big battle at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday (April 3) evening with the game having a bearing on both the title race and the race for the Champions League places. Aston Villa are third in the standings and could open a five-point gap with a win at the Etihad Stadium while a win for City will see them close the gap on Liverpool at the top of the Premier League standings.

As things stand, City are third in the Premier League with 64 points while Villa are fourth with 59 points. A win for Villa could also see them trim the gap between them and City to two points as they still have an outside chance of challenging for the Premier League title. If results go Villa’s way in the midweek, they could be within five points of Liverpool and still have to face the Reds and Arsenal in the Premier League.

Premier League: Pep Guardiola hits back at Roy Keane’s ‘League 2 striker’ remark on Erling Haaland

Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane has blasted Erling Haaland for his timid performance against Arsenal on Sunday (Mar 31) during the title-decider clash. The Manchester City striker had a tough day in the field as he could barely create any chances for his side.&nbsp;

Keane highlighted it wasn't the first time that the Norwegian had struggled in big games, adding that his overall gameplay was comparable to a fourth-tier player.&nbsp;

"The levels of his general play is so poor. Not just today, I think his laying stuff off, headers, whatever it might be - in front of goal he's the best in the world - but for his general play for such a player it is so poor," Keane told&nbsp;Sky Sports.&nbsp;

"He has to improve that. He's almost like a League Two player, that's the way I look at him. His general play has to improve, and it will do over the next few years," Keane added.&nbsp;

Despite breaking scoring records since his arrival in England last year, Haaland has largely remained a passenger in the blockbuster City side, coached by Pep Guardiola.&nbsp;

The pundits largely agree that Haaland's all-round play as a striker leaves a lot to be desired especially when big teams do not give him any space. Akin to the Arsenal match, Haaland was anonymous during the 1-1 draw with Liverpool at Anfield, last month.&nbsp;

<h2>Guardiola on title charge</h2>

Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane has blasted Erling Haaland for his timid performance against Arsenal on Sunday (Mar 31) during the title-decider clash. The Manchester City striker had a tough day in the field as he could barely create any chances for his side. Keane highlighted it wasn't the first time that the Norwegian had struggled in big games, adding that his overall gameplay was comparable to a fourth-tier player. "The levels of his general play is so poor. Not just today, I think his laying stuff off, headers, whatever it might be - in front of goal he's the best in the world - but for his general play for such a player it is so poor," Keane told Sky Sports. "He has to improve that. He's almost like a League Two player, that's the way I look at him. His general play has to improve, and it will do over the next few years," Keane added. Despite breaking scoring records since his arrival in England last year, Haaland has largely remained a passenger in the blockbuster City side, coached by Pep Guardiola. The pundits largely agree that Haaland's all-round play as a striker leaves a lot to be desired especially when big teams do not give him any space. Akin to the Arsenal match, Haaland was anonymous during the 1-1 draw with Liverpool at Anfield, last month. ‘He’s like a League Two player’: Roy Keane’s scathing criticism of Erling Haaland after Arsenal draw

Arsenal nullified reigning champions Manchester City's attack for a 0-0 draw at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday (Mar 31), allowing Liverpool to take top spot on a pivotal day in the Premier League's three-way title race.&nbsp;

Mikel Arteta's Arsenal, in the hunt for their first league title in 20 years, are second in the table on 65 points with nine games remaining, while City are third with 64. Liverpool, on 67 points, claimed the lead with their 2-1 comeback victory over Brighton &amp; Hove Albion earlier on Sunday.

The match failed to live up to its billing as a battle of titans. City dominated possession with 72.2 per cent and came at Arsenal in waves.

But the visitors frustrated Pep Guardiola's men - including league-leading scorer Erling Haaland - with a textbook defensive display to extend their unbeaten league run to nine games and end their streak of eight losses at the Etihad.

Usually prolific Man City were restricted to just one shot on goal and it was the first time in 58 games that they have not scored at home.

"We want all the three points obviously, and we tried our best to get the win but we'll take the point and move on," Arsenal skipper Martin Odegaard said.

"We had to defend a lot, a bit more deep than we would have liked. It was a tight game and a tough one. So much can happen before the end of the season, we have to take it game-by-game."

Gabriel Jesus had Arsenal's best chances, firing two shots just wide in the first half and then narrowly failing to meet an inviting cross from Bukayo Saka.

City's best opportunity was Kevin De Bruyne's early corner kick that glanced off the shoulder of Nathan Ake but fell to keeper David Raya.

City parked themselves in Arsenal's half over a final tense few minutes but the visitors held strong.

The normally reliable Haaland failed to make contact with the ball when he seemed to have a simple finish from Josko Gvardiol's header late in the game, holding his head in his hands in frustration while the City fans groaned.

While Arsenal lacked the firepower of recent weeks - they had scored an astounding 33 goals in eight successive league victories - shutting down City was mission accomplished for the Gunners, who were clobbered 4-1 at the Etihad last season before City ran away with the title.

"We can't be satisfied when we draw," said Arsenal defender William Saliba. "We leave with one point, but we are not satisfied. We know they are the best team in the world, so we have to be focused.

Manchester City player&nbsp;Joao Cancelo, currently on loan at Barcelona, has admitted disagreements were the reason for the breakdown in his relationship with Pep Guardiola but added that "life goes on".&nbsp;

Cancelo was a key part of Guardiola's Man City squad before he made the shock loan move to Bayern Munich in January 2022, before eventually arriving at the Spanish club.&nbsp;

Man City reject Joao Cancelo reveals reason behind fallout with Pep Guardiola

Midfielder Kevin De Bruyne and goalkeeper Ederson will miss Manchester City's FA Cup quarter-final game against Newcastle United due to injuries, manager Pep Guardiola said on Friday.

Ederson was forced to come off during their 1-1 Premier League draw with Liverpool following a challenge on Darwin Nunez, conceding a penalty.

Meanwhile, De Bruyne has a groin strain which resulted in him being left out of Belgium's squad for friendlies with Ireland and England this month.

"Kevin's not ready. He already played in Anfield with some problems. But he's getting better. He's not ready for tomorrow. We spoke with Belgium manager Domenico Tedesco and he decided," Guardiola told reporters ahead of Saturday's game.

"I'm grateful because he didn't feel good and he could recover for the rest of the season. He played well (against Liverpool). All the players have problems, but the day after he didn't feel good, it's better to take care.

"Eddie (Ederson) is getting better, hopefully he'll be ready after the international break. Tomorrow, for sure (he will not play). He'll have two weeks off then, he'll recover, we'll see how he feels."

Guardiola also confirmed Jack Grealish has returned from a groin injury and will be a part of the squad. Grealish has not played since their 6-2 win over Luton Town in the FA Cup fifth round.

City are facing Newcastle for the fourth time this season, having beaten them twice in the league, but Eddie Howe's side knocked them out of the League Cup in September.

"This season and previous ones, since Eddie Howe was there and the people from Saudi Arabia took over (the club), it's always been tight games. We don't expect anything different," Guardiola said.

"We have an incredible chance at home with our people. We need the support of our fans in home games like we had against Manchester United (in a 3-1 comeback win), I don't remember that environment for a long time.

UCL: Manchester City wary of Real Madrid’s golden boy Jude Bellingham, admits Pep Guardiola

Real Madrid withstood an onslaught from RB Leipzig to secure a 1-1 draw in the second leg of their Champions League last-16 tie that sent them through to the quarter-finals with a 2-1 aggregate victory on Wednesday.

RB Leipzig were arguably the better side and missed several gilt-edged chances. But Real Madrid increased the tempo in the second half and ultimately did enough to seal their place in the last eight.

Bidding for a record-extending 15th Champions League title, Real took the lead thanks to a Vinicius Jr strike from a counter attack in the 65th minute.

But Leipzig's Willi Orban levelled the score three minutes later with a header to set up a tense final few minutes that included a strike that hit the crossbar by Dani Olmo.

Even though Real have a formidable record in Europe, having been knocked out in the round of 16 only twice in the past 14 years while winning the title five times during that period, Carlo Ancelotti's team began rather cagily.

Leipzig kept threatening to score, with Orban missing twice in the second half after shooting wide.

In the second half, Rodrygo replaced Eduardo Camavinga and suddenly Real were playing with more purpose.

Real appeared to have put the tie to bed when Toni Kroos stole the ball and fed Jude Bellingham at the halfway line, who took the ball up the Leipzig box.

He slipped a pass to Vinicius, who had cut in from the left into the centre circle before rifling a shot into the left-hand corner.

That goal only seemed to fire up Leipzig, who equalised within three minutes when Orban got in front of Nacho to score with a stooping header from a cross by David Raum.

In a final 20 minutes in which several yellow cards were handed out, Real were playing with fire and were under repeated pressure in their own box with goalkeeper Andriy Lunin, who had already saved Real in the first leg, forced to make several crucial saves.

Leipzig almost took the game to extra time when Dani Olmo saw his shot ricochet off the bar in added time.

Ultimately, Real did just enough to qualify for yet another quarter-final.

“Obviously we know it wasn´t the best game of the season," said Real’s captain Nacho.

"Sometimes you just have bad games and tonight was the case. It looks like a drama because of how we played but what really matters is we qualified for the quarters. Let that be a lesson for what´s to come.”

Champions League: Real Madrid snatch draw against RB Leipzig to qualify for quarters; Man City beat Copenhagen

Arsenal&nbsp;matched their biggest Premier League away win with a 6-0 pummelling of Sheffield United on Monday after scoring five times in the first half when they tore the home side apart and have closed within two points of leaders Liverpool.

Mikel Arteta's team are third with 61 points after 27 games, a point behind Manchester City but with a much better goal difference than their title rivals. The Blades remain rooted to the bottom on 13 points, 11 adrift of the safety zone.

The Gunners are the first Premier league team with seven wins in a row this season and appear to be gaining momentum at just the right time to keep the pressure on the top two.

"A great performance and a big result for us again with the amount of goals we scored and the clean sheet," said delighted&nbsp;Arsenal&nbsp;manager Mikel Arteta.

"The team shows signs of wanting more, very positive. The energy is really good at the moment. When you are winning everything is easier, we have to maintain momentum now."

Arsenal&nbsp;were ruthless as they sliced through United's defence with ease from the start. Captain Martin Odegaard opened the floodgates with his fifth-minute goal, firing home from the middle of the box after a cute cutback from Declan Rice.

There was more misery to come for United goalkeeper Ivo Grbic on a night that saw six different names on the scoresheet.

Jayden Bogle put through his own goal in the 13th before Gabriel Martinelli struck two minutes later, sending scores of weary United fans to the Bramall Lane exits, while Kai Havertz (25th minute), Rice (39), and Ben White (58) also netted.

"We won 6-0 today and recently we've won a lot, but the work we do without the ball from the front to the goalkeeper is really good and it's a pleasure to be a part of," said Odegaard.

EARLY FIREWORKS

Arsenal's early fireworks had the 9-0 Premier League scoring record looking in jeopardy, but Blades fans were spared more misery partly due to Arteta's substitutions including forward Bukayo Saka heading to the bench after an excellent 45 minutes.

Arsenal&nbsp;were denied a seventh goal thanks to an excellent save from Grbic who batted away a curling shot from substitute Gabriel Jesus that looked destined for the far corner.

They matched their best Premier League away win set in the 6-0 rout of West Ham United on Feb. 11 and record six-goal away victory margin in a 7-1 top flight win over Aston Villa in 1935.

The Gunners did make history on Monday though by becoming the first English side to win three consecutive away matches by a margin of five or more goals.

They also became only the second English team to score at least five goals in three successive top flight away matches after Burnley in September 1961.

Arsenal matched their biggest Premier League away win with a 6-0 pummelling of Sheffield United on Monday after scoring five times in the first half when they tore the home side apart and have closed within two points of leaders Liverpool. "A great performance and a big result for us again with the amount of goals we scored and the clean sheet," said delighted Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta. "The team shows signs of wanting more, very positive. The energy is really good at the moment. When you are winning everything is easier, we have to maintain momentum now." Arsenal were ruthless as they sliced through United's defence with ease from the start. Captain Martin Odegaard opened the floodgates with his fifth-minute goal, firing home from the middle of the box after a cute cutback from Declan Rice. Manchester City fan arrested on suspicion of mocking Munich air disaster during derby match

Ahead of the highly-anticipated derby on Sunday (Mar 3), Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has commented that his team's era of dominance will not last forever, akin to rivals Manchester United and Liverpool who dominated English football in different periods.&nbsp;

Guardiola was responding to recent&nbsp;statements made by United's new&nbsp;owner, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who suggested his team would knock City off their perch soon.&nbsp;

“The 80s was Liverpool, 90s United and now we have won seven Premier Leagues in the last 11 or 12 years. But in 50 or 60 years, there has never been one country where one team always dominates and controls everything. We will try in this organisation to extend this as much as possible for many years,” said Guardiola.

“Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his people know the diagnosis of their club. I don't know anything about that club. If they said they need two or three years to be there, who am I to say the opposite?” the Spanish manager added.

<h2>Keep calm: Guardiola's mantra</h2>

Reflecting on the derby to be played at the Etihad, the treble-winning manager said it was all about keeping calm and executing the tactics.&nbsp;

“What I learn from my experience in these types of games is to be more calm, relax, don’t talk about many things. Just focus on tactics and what you have to do to beat them, not about emotions - because emotions will be there, without doubt,” said Guardiola.

City currently sit on second spot in the points table, four points behind Liverpool. If Guardiola's men manage to overcome the United challenge on Sunday, next week's encounter at Anfield might becomes the title-decider.&nbsp;

City will be gunning to become the first English team in history to win the top-flight division four times in a row while Liverpool would hope to give their manager Jurgen Klopp a fitting farewell in his final season.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, United will be hoping to push for the UCL spot as they trail the fourth spot by 11 points.&nbsp;

Ahead of Manchester derby, Pep Guardiola admits Man City's era of success won't last forever

Manchester City's Erling Haaland scored five times as the FA Cup holders ran riot in a 6-2 rout of Luton in the fifth round on Tuesday.

Aided by Kevin De Bruyne's trio of assists, Haaland completed his treble inside the first 40 minutes at Kenilworth Road.

Jordan Clark struck twice to briefly reduce Luton's deficit to just 3-2.

But any Luton hopes of an incredible comeback were ruthlessly erased by Haaland as the Norway striker scored twice more after the interval to send City into the quarter-finals.

Mateo Kovacic netted to cap City's second six-goal haul this season after their 6-1 thrashing of Bournemouth in the Premier League in November.

Haaland now has 27 goals in all competitions this season, making a mockery of the critics who took a swipe at him after a misfiring display in a recent draw against Chelsea.

It was the second time Haaland had hit five goals in a single game for City after his heroics in the Champions League last 16 second leg win against RB Leipzig in March 2023.

Saluting De Bruyne's role in his demolition of Luton, Haaland said: "Kevin is massive. It's a pleasure playing with him. We know what we both want from each other."

On his own form since returning from a foot injury that sidelined him for two months, Haaland added: "I'm getting back to my best. Finally I'm feeling good.&nbsp;

"It's an amazing feeling. It's coming, we're coming. Exciting times ahead. We are ready to attack."

Guardiola added: "What can I say? Erling is on fire, and Kevin. The connection was perfect. Kevin needs players like Erling and Erling needs players like Kevin."

City have won 14 of their last 15 games in all competitions as they try to emulate last season's Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup treble.

Haaland and De Bruyne are rounding into form in time for Sunday's crucial Premier League showdown against Manchester United at the Etihad Stadium.

<h2>Predatory Haaland</h2>

City needed just three minutes to take the lead this time as Haaland finished off a flowing move.

Matheus Nunes clipped a clever pass to De Bruyne and he picked out Haaland inside the Luton area, where the City striker fired past Tim Krul with ease.

De Bruyne was the provider again in the 18th minute when Haaland bagged his second goal.

Taking Haaland's lay-off on the halfway line, De Bruyne unfurled a sumptuous pass that sent the Norway star clean through on goal for a typically predatory finish.

Haaland completed his treble in the 40th minute, accelerating onto yet another sublime De Bruyne assist before dinking a deft finish over Krul from 12 yards.

It was Haaland's eighth hat-trick for City and his first away from the Etihad since signing from Borussia Dortmund in 2022.

Clark reduced the deficit five minutes later with a superb long-range curler and scored again in the 52nd minute.

But De Bruyne and Haaland proved impossible for Luton to stop.

Kyle Walker's eye-catching pass with the outside of his foot set De Bruyne free in the area and he unselfishly teed up Haaland for a 55th minute tap in.

Haaland got his fifth three minutes later, taking Bernardo Silva's pass and shooting low under Krul's weak attempted save.

Kovacic smashed a 20-yard drive past Krul in the 72nd minute to put a bow on City's evening to remember.

Abdul Fatawu's stunning strike gave Championship leaders Leicester a surprise 1-0 win at Premier League side Bournemouth.

Leicester struck in the 105th minute when Fatawu collected Kelechi Iheanacho's pass on the edge of the area and curled into the top corner.

Newcastle survived a scare to beat second tier Blackburn 4-3 on penalties after a 1-1 draw at Ewood Park.

Anthony Gordon's 71st minute opener was cancelled by Blackburn's Sammie Szmodics eight minutes later, before Newcastle keeper Martin Dubravka emerged as the shoot-out hero with two saves.

FA Cup: Five goals from Erling Haaland crushes Luton as Man City reach quarter-finals

Manchester City and Arsenal closed in on Premier League leaders Liverpool with contrasting victories on Saturday as Manchester United's bubble was burst by Fulham.

With Liverpool in League Cup final action on Sunday, the tightest of title races was squeezed further as City edged to a 1-0 victory at Bournemouth to cut the gap to one point.

Arsenal showed again they are a force to be reckoned with as they outclassed Newcastle United 4-1 -- taking their goal tally from the last three leagues games to 15.

Liverpool have 60 points with champions City on 59 and Arsenal on 58, all three teams having played 26 games.

It is the closest three-horse title race in the Premier League for 10 years when Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea's battle went to the wire.

The gap between the leading three to United was evident again as Fulham won at Old Trafford for the first time in more than 20 years after Alex Iwobi's stoppage-time goal earned them a surprise 2-1 victory.

United's first loss in six league games left them eight points behind fourth-placed Aston Villa, who bolstered their hopes of qualifying for the Champions League with a 4-2 home victory over struggling Nottingham Forest.

Crystal Palace gave new manager Oliver Glasner a dream start with a 3-0 win over 10-man Burnley to ease their relegation fears and push their opponents closer to the drop.

Everton were denied a vital victory in their survival battle as Lewis Dunk headed a stoppage-time equaliser to salvage a 1-1 draw for 10-man Brighton and Hove Albion.

Phil Foden's ninth league goal of the season proved enough for champions City to overcome Bournemouth although it was not the usual slick display by Pep Guardiola's side.

Foden struck in the 21st minute as he coolly slotted in after Erling Haaland's shot had been saved by Neto.

"The players surprise me every time, the character, always competitive when they are tired," Guardiola said after his side's unbeaten league run stretched to 11.

"Winning 0-5 is not a reality. Hopefully we can have a week off soon to rest the legs."

While City showed the priceless ability to eke out victories when not at their usual levels, Arsenal were simply unstoppable as they bounced back impressively from defeat by Porto in the Champions League.

An own goal by Sven Botman and a simple Kai Havertz finish put Arsenal 2-0 up at the break before Bukayo Saka and Jakub Kiwior struck to wrap up the points before substitute Joe Willock scored a consolation for Newcastle.

As City eye a fourth successive league title, United's problems re-surfaced at Old Trafford to dilute the mood of optimism.
