Timmapur's comment is being slammed left, right and centre on social media, with many calling upon CM Siddaramaiah to sack the minister.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, during a public rally in Karnataka's Hubballi, senior BJP leader and Union Home Minister Amit Shah said it was Siddaramaiah government who let Revanna escape the country.&nbsp;

"Right now we have an alliance with JD(S) and then Revanna's case came up. I want to make it clear, BJP will never stand with atrocities against women," he said.

"Listen Siddaramaiah and DK Shivakumar, government is yours, of Congress, it was you who was supposed to take action. You did not take any action until the election of Vokkaliga belt was over, you did politics and let him [Prajwal Revanna] escape.

"If you have guts, say the truth, because of you a person who committed a heinous crime escaped...even though they're (JD(S)) our ally, our stand is clear, those who commit such crimes, need to be given harshest punishment...," he said.

Hinting at the Krishna Janmabhoomi case, Chief Minister of the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath said that "in Mahabharat, Krishna asked for five villages to be given to the Pandavs, while Hindus seek just three centres of faith linked to three deities".&nbsp;

The chief minister made the statement while addressing the Uttar Pradesh assembly on Wednesday (Feb 7) and quoted Hindu poet Ramdhari Singh Dinkar's poem 'Krishna Ki Chetavani' from the book 'Rashmirathi'.&nbsp;

The comment was made by the chief minister days after the Varanasi court permitted puja inside a Gyanvapi Masjid's cellar and the Archaeological Survey Of India, in an RTI reply, said that the Keshavdev temple in Mathura was demolished by the Mughal king Aurangzeb for constructing a mosque.

The Hindu petitioners in the Krishna Janmabhoomi case have been claiming that Mathura's 17th-century mosque, Shahi Idgah, stands on the place where the birth of Lord Krishna took place. An archaeological survey of the site was recently permitted by the Allahabad High Court.

But here the demand is only for three places that are the centres of our faith," Adityanath said.

"The society, the faith for the past many years, is talking about only three. Only three because these are special places. These are not normal, these are the places where gods incarnated themselves," Yogi said, as he emphasised the importance of resolving the disputes in Kashi and Mathura.&nbsp;

A total of 23 tableaux -- 17 from states and Union territories and six from various ministries and departments -- depicting India's vibrant cultural heritage, and economic and social progress will be part of the parade on the Kartavya Path, Defence Ministry officials said Sunday.&nbsp;

A preview of many tableaux, some of which are still being constructed or are being given finishing touches, was held at the Rashtriya Rangshala Camp in Delhi.&nbsp;

While 'Nari Shakti' is the theme for a majority of the tableaux which will roll down the revamped Kartavya Path on Republic Day, some states have chosen culture and heritage too as their theme, they said. &nbsp;

Uttar Pradesh's tableau depicts Lord Ram and Goddess Sita being welcomed by the people of Ayodhya on their return from exile, said a senior official of the state's information and public relations department.&nbsp;

Ayodhya Deepotsav is the main theme of Uttar Pradesh, a senior defence official earlier said.&nbsp;

"The side panels of the tableau depict Ram Ki Paidi on the banks of the Saryu river in Ayodhya and a big 'Deepotsav Dwar' has been erected. It also has a sculpture of Maha Rishi Vasishtha," the Uttar Pradesh government official said.&nbsp;

Haryana has chosen the Bhagavad Gita as its inspiration for the Republic Day tableau with a huge model of a chariot pulled by four horses being its main attraction.&nbsp;

"The tableau showcases Lord Krishna serving as a charioteer to Arjuna on the battlefield of Kurukshetra and offering him sermons. The front part of the tableau depicts Lord Krishna in his 'Virat Swaroop' form as he is displayed before Arjuna.&nbsp;

"The side panels of the trailer show scenes from the Mahabharata war," according to information shared by the defence ministry.&nbsp;

If themes drawn from timeless epics shine in these two tableaux, the West Bengal tableau glows with the hallowed image of Goddess Durga.&nbsp;

It displays Durga Puja in Kolkata and celebrates its inscription on UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage List. The tableau has a feel of a traditional pandal erected during the puja and also showcases a terracotta-inspired design.&nbsp;

The Ministry of Culture in its tableau has also depicted Goddess Durga.&nbsp;

Both the ministry and the West Bengal government have prided themselves after the UNESCO tag was granted to the ethos of Durga Puja in Kolkata.&nbsp;

Among eastern states, Jharkhand has chosen the Baidyanth Dham -- one of the 12 Jyotirlingas dedicated to Lord Shiva -- as its main theme.&nbsp;

'Kanwariyas' wearing saffron cloths with 'Bol Ba' imprinted on those has been showcased in the middle of the tableau while the symbolic structures of the ancient temple in Deoghar dominate the main tableau. Traditional Sohrai painting of Jharkhand, found in caves, has been depicted on the side panels.&nbsp;

Other states and Union Territories which have been selected to showcase their tableaux on the Katavya Path on January 26 include Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Ladakh, Uttarakhand, Tripura, Gujarat, Arunachal Pradesh, Kerala, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu.&nbsp;

The tableau of Gujarat depicts renewable energy production in the state and the cultural heritage of the region. Its front showcases a girl wearing a Kutchi dress, holding the 'sun' in one hand and a 'paper wheel' in another, representing solar and wind energy.&nbsp;

The village of Modhera, famous for its Sun Temple being India's first round-the-clock solar-powered village has also been showcased in the tableau. Artists wearing colourful 'garba' costumes will accompany it.&nbsp;

Ladakh will showcase its cultural heritage and historic sites in the Republic Day tableau.&nbsp;

Its rear part showcases the 7th-century Gandhara art-based rock-cut Buddha statues in Kargil. The rock-cut statues in Kargil are the only three of their kind in the world and are considered to be of the same genre as the now-demolished Bamiyan Buddha statues, according to information shared by the Defence Ministry.&nbsp;

Hakima Banoo, who hails from Kargil and is part of the artistes troupe which will accompany the tableau, said, "I am very happy that we will represent our home on the Rajpath (now Kartavya Path)".&nbsp;

Last year's Republic Day tableaux had run into a controversy with many opposition states crying foul over not being selected for the parade. The tableau of Uttar Pradesh was picked as the best among the 12 states and Union territories which had participated in the Republic Day parade last year.&nbsp;

UP's R-Day tableau depicts Lord Ram, Ayodhya Deepotsav; Haryana to showcase Lord Krishna's Virat Swaroop form

A 9-cm wide terracotta artefact lies in Hong Kong, in the possession of an art dealer, but the inferences and interpretations from it could possibly lead to interesting revelations about the time period of the Indian epic Mahabharata and its occurrence.

The tablet depicts a man holding four horses, standing on the back of a half chariot with a spoked wheel. There are two figures in the chariot, one who is presumably the charioteer, while another has his hand pointed in a direction. Both the figures in the chariot have quivers that contain arrows.&nbsp;

Curious to know more about the tablet, Jeremy Pine, the owner had sent a picture of it to&nbsp;Dr&nbsp;Nanditha Krishna, CPR Institute of Indological Research and requested her to share her interpretations of the same and its historical significance.&nbsp;Dr&nbsp;Nanditha along with other historians and domain experts had studied the image and historical texts to draw inferences.

According to a document shared with the media, the tabled is said to have been authenticated by Oxford Authentication using Thermoluminescence (TL testing) on May 14&nbsp;2019. Its result&nbsp;states that the terracotta was fired between 2300 and 3600 years ago ie&nbsp;between 1600 to 300BCE.&nbsp;

This date corresponds to the late Indus Valley Culture (1500 BCE) and the historical period (600 BCE), a period known as the Painted Grey Ware Culture, an Iron Age Culture of North India lasting roughly from 1200 BCE to 600 BCE. According to “The Painted Grey Ware Culture of the Iron Age” by BB&nbsp;Lal, the period has been associated with the settlements at Hastinapura and the five&nbsp;villages which the Pandavas had requested&nbsp;from the Kauravas in the epic Mahabharata.&nbsp;

Dr&nbsp;Nanditha Krishna, based on her four-month study and interpretation of the images of the terracotta told WION, “We see four horses in a war chariot, the art of managing horses was fairly well developed by this time, till now we do not have horses belonging to 1000BC, we don’t see horses in any kind of art. It has a spoked wheel, which is described in the Rig Veda, which means that the Mahabharata also uses the same spoked wheel. All these inferences link it to the Mahabharata age.”

Speaking of the possible identity of the two men on the chariot, she said, “Many people in the Mahabharata are said to have driven four-horse chariots, but only Arjuna’s four horses are given specific names and have an identity of their own. When I saw it, the first thing I thought was - this is Krishna and Arjuna. The general picture of ‘Gitopadesham’ is that of Krishna holding the horses and Arjuna pointing to his grandfather and his cousins and refusing to fight them.”&nbsp;

However, the observations also note that since Krishna chose not to fight, so the second quiver of arrows could not belong to him. One of the reasons stated is that Arjuna- the world’s greatest archer, may need more than one quiver of arrows for a day of battle.&nbsp;

Another possibility is that&nbsp;when Arjuna asks Krishna what he would do if Arjuna is killed in battle, Krishna says, “maybe the fire will become cold, but if it happens, I will take up my weapons and kill Karna and Salya”. So, maybe Krishna had his weapons with him “just in case”.

According to the observations, if the two figures are Arjuna and Krishna as suggested, this would be the earliest available portrayal of the ‘Gitopadesham’ scene of the Bhagwad Gita, going back to about 1000 BCE. The two figures are also seen&nbsp;wearing Harappa-style headbands. Thus raiding the question of whether the Mahabharata extended into the late Harappan period.

What makes it even more interesting is that&nbsp;this observation, if true, would place the Bhagawad Gita and Mahabharata in a much earlier period than generally accepted.

The chariot in the terracotta tablet is said to be similar to a half-chariot that was excavated from Sanauli in Uttar Pradesh’s Baghpat District. The tablet depicts a man holding four horses, standing on the back of a half chariot with a spoked wheel. There are two figures in the chariot, one who is presumably the charioteer, while another has his hand pointed in a direction. Both the figures in the chariot have quivers that contain arrows. Curious to know more about the tablet, Jeremy Pine, the owner had sent a picture of it to Dr Nanditha Krishna, CPR Institute of Indological Research and requested her to share her interpretations of the same and its historical significance. Dr Nanditha along with other historians and domain experts had studied the image and historical texts to draw inferences. According to a document shared with the media, the tabled is said to have been authenticated by Oxford Authentication using Thermoluminescence (TL testing) on May 14 2019. Its result states that the terracotta was fired between 2300 and 3600 years ago ie between 1600 to 300BCE. This date corresponds to the late Indus Valley Culture (1500 BCE) and the historical period (600 BCE), a period known as the Painted Grey Ware Culture, an Iron Age Culture of North India lasting roughly from 1200 BCE to 600 BCE. According to “The Painted Grey Ware Culture of the Iron Age” by BB Lal, the period has been associated with the settlements at Hastinapura and the five villages which the Pandavas had requested from the Kauravas in the epic Mahabharata. Dr Nanditha Krishna, based on her four-month study and interpretation of the images of the terracotta told WION, “We see four horses in a war chariot, the art of managing horses was fairly well developed by this time, till now we do not have horses belonging to 1000BC, we don’t see horses in any kind of art. It has a spoked wheel, which is described in the Rig Veda, which means that the Mahabharata also uses the same spoked wheel. All these inferences link it to the Mahabharata age.” Speaking of the possible identity of the two men on the chariot, she said, “Many people in the Mahabharata are said to have driven four-horse chariots, but only Arjuna’s four horses are given specific names and have an identity of their own. When I saw it, the first thing I thought was - this is Krishna and Arjuna. The general picture of ‘Gitopadesham’ is that of Krishna holding the horses and Arjuna pointing to his grandfather and his cousins and refusing to fight them.” However, the observations also note that since Krishna chose not to fight, so the second quiver of arrows could not belong to him. One of the reasons stated is that Arjuna- the world’s greatest archer, may need more than one quiver of arrows for a day of battle. Another possibility is that when Arjuna asks Krishna what he would do if Arjuna is killed in battle, Krishna says, “maybe the fire will become cold, but if it happens, I will take up my weapons and kill Karna and Salya”. So, maybe Krishna had his weapons with him “just in case”. According to the observations, if the two figures are Arjuna and Krishna as suggested, this would be the earliest available portrayal of the ‘Gitopadesham’ scene of the Bhagwad Gita, going back to about 1000 BCE. The two figures are also seen wearing Harappa-style headbands. Thus raiding the question of whether the Mahabharata extended into the late Harappan period. What makes it even more interesting is that this observation, if true, would place the Bhagawad Gita and Mahabharata in a much earlier period than generally accepted. The Purnima or full moon day will also mark the beginning of Kalpwas (the period of austerity) at Kumbh Mela.

Elaborating on the significance of Paush Purnima, Swami Adhokshanand said, Paush Purnima is a significant day for Hindus which falls on the full moon day of Paush in the Hindu calendar. On this day, devotees from different parts of the country assemble at Sangam to take a holy dip. Even Lord Krishna had said that in the Hindu calendar, he represents the month of Paush, he said.

Satish Shukla, who had come from Kanpur for the holy dip, said, "Various facilities at the mela venue have improved significantly. River Ganga looks a lot cleaner now as compared to earlier times."

DS Nikam, who had come from Aurangabad with his family for the holy dip, praised the cleanliness at the mela area.

I have been camping here since January 15. Today's bathing experience was really nice and the arrangements were good," he said.

Yesterday, UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had greeted people on the eve of Paush Purnima.

I was not much aware of the fact that why we celebrate Holi. While writing essays in primary schools, my first line used to be, &quot;Holi is the festival of colours and sharing the love&quot; and yes it is indeed.

Holi is not a one-day festival, it is celebrated for continuous three days. The festival starts with Holi Purnima, people begin the celebration when the eldest male member sprinkles colour on the members of his family.

The then second day is known as &#39;Puno&#39; or &#39;Holika Dahan&#39; on this day Holika&rsquo;s images are burnt to celebrate the victory of good over evil. The third and last day is the main day when people play with coloured powder &#39;abeer&#39; or &#39;gulal&#39; and water is poured on each other. Apart from colours and love, Holi is celebrated as a day of thanksgiving day for the good spring harvest.

Holika Dahan is celebrated for the victory of good over evil, people ignite a bonfire to commemorate the death of a witch - Holika.&nbsp;

As per an ancient story, a brutal king Hiranyakashyap wanted to be revered as God himself and establish his own supremacy everywhere but his own son Prahalad refused to worship his father and remained a true devotee of Lord Vishnu.

He thought to kill Prahalad but failed every time. Then he called his sister Holika. She planned to kill him as she was blessed with a drape that protected her from burning into the fire. When she sat with Prahlad in a huge bowl with the intention to kill him then suddenly heavy winds started to flow and she herself was burnt in the fire.

If the festival is marked as a celebration of good over evil then how colours became part of it?

The reason behind the use of colours is related to the love story of Krishna and Radha. Krishna being envious of Radha&rsquo;s fair complexion complained to his mother Yashoda. His mother told him that he could colour Radha&rsquo;s face with whatever colour &#39;abeer or gulal&#39; to remove the differences and the legacy continued since then.

Social gatherings such as parties with food are organised at several places. Spending time with friends, family and other loved ones are also a part of this festival. Moreover, giving out sweets and delicacies is another important part of the festival&rsquo;s celebrations.

The most popular dish of this festival is Gujjia. It is a sweet dumpling made with maida flour wheat flour and stuffed with khoya and dry fruits.

My grandmom told me about this festival, the ancients stories and her own sagas of celebration, and while growing up I myself did some research by reading about this colourful and joyous festival but nowhere to be found that how the Bhang culture got its alliance with Holi.

Associated with Lord Shiva, bhang has now become synonymous with Holi. It is an excuse to get intoxicated and roam the streets creating mischief. Bhang drinks have now become an official Holi drink, but why?

With continuous modernisation, bhang is being replaced by alcohol. Many of us have noticed few bands of drunken hooligans roaming the streets and creating nuisances. The day after Holi comes with thousands of accidental cases, eve-teasing, molestation, robbing, looting and also some serious crimes of rapes and murders, which are happened under the influence of alcohol.&nbsp;

&quot;Bura Na Mano Holi hai&quot; will not pacify the ill effects that arrive with the &#39;other&#39; facet of Holi celebrations.
