By that time, West Bengal recorded the highest voter turnout of 78.19 per cent, followed by Jharkhand 62.74 per cent, Odisha 60.07 per cent, Haryana 58.37 per cent, Delhi 54.48 per cent, Uttar Pradesh 54.03 per cent, Bihar 53.30 per cent, and Jammu and Kashmir 52.28 per cent.&nbsp;

The sixth phase of the general elections included eight seats in Bihar, all 10 seats in Haryana, one seat in Jammu and Kashmir, four in Jharkhand, all seven seats in Delhi, six in Odisha, 14 in Uttar Pradesh, and eight in West Bengal.&nbsp;

This phase includes some of the key seats which are, New Delhi, North-East Delhi, North-West Delhi and Chandni Chowk in the national capital, and Sultanpur and Azamgarh in Uttar Pradesh.&nbsp;

Jammu and Kashmir's Anantnag-Rajouri, West Bengal's Tamluk, Medinipur, Haryana's Karnal, Kurukshetra, Gurgaon, Rohtak, and Odisha's Bhubaneswar, Puri and Sambalpur are some of the other key seats.

<h2>Polling marred by violence</h2>

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) said that its candidate from West Bengal's Jhargram, Pranat Tudu, was attacked by miscreants in Garbeta while he was visiting the polling booth in Monglapota.

"We got information yesterday that BJP voters in Monglapota are not being allowed to vote. Due to this, we came to this area to check what was the problem. Here around 200 people attacked us with lathis, stones and some weapons. We could have been murdered if Central forces would not have been there...We did not get any protection from the local police...Didi doesn't want to impose CAA and make the country into Pakistan," said Tudu.

Several others were also wounded in the incident.

Tudu further said that because TMC was afraid of its impending defeat, it was resorting to such moves to keep the BJP supporters away from the polling booth.

"We informed the DM, but no security arrangements were made. CISF jawans have received severe injuries on the head and I have been hit on the head. The window panes of our vehicle have been damaged. We have come to file FIR and reported to EC. If TMC feels we are frightened then they are wrong. They know that they will get defeated so they are trying to keep BJP supporters away from the booth. They are doing the same in many booths," he added.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Saturday (May 25) released the constituency-wise voting data from the first five phases of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. This comes amid a public discourse over the lack of official voter turnout data.

Coming out with the data, the ECI asserted that there was a pattern in the creation of false narratives, and that it was done with the mischievous design to destroy the legal validity of the electoral process. The electoral agency also asserted that the alteration of the number of votes polled was not possible.

<h2>Why did the ECI release data now?</h2>

The poll panel has come out with the absolute number of voters on its own. This comes a day after the Supreme Court of India refused to issue directions to ECI on the plea of an NGO&nbsp;— Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) — seeking polling booth-wise voter turnout data.

As per the PTI news agency, the ECI said it has decided to further expand the format of turnout data to include the absolute number of voters in every parliamentary constituency.&nbsp;

The absolute numbers are discernable parliamentary constituency-wise by all citizens by applying the turnout percentage to total electors, both already made available in the public domain, said the poll panel.

Here electors are those who are part of the electoral roll and eligible to voters and 'voters' refers to those that have actually cast their vote in an election.&nbsp;

While the EC had been issuing turnout percentage, there had been demands to make public the actual number of voters in every phase.

Previously, the Election Commission, hitting out at the plea of the petitioner, had said there are "certain elements with vested interests" who keep throwing baseless and false allegations, "creating an unwarranted atmosphere of suspicion" to discredit the Election Commission of India.&nbsp;

"It is most humbly submitted that there is a consistent malafide campaign/design/efforts to keep on raising suspicion and doubt in every possible manner and by misleading assertions and baseless," it added.

India's ruling BJP&nbsp;said on Saturday (May 25) that many security personnel of its&nbsp;candidate Pranat Tudu from Jhargram in the eastern state of West Bengal&nbsp;suffered injuries during an "attack" by members of the ruling Trinamool Congress.

Tudu was on his way to Garbeta after reports that BJP agents were not being allowed into some polling booths, when the incident happened.

“All of a sudden, TMC goons who had blocked the roads started hurling bricks at my car. When my security personnel tried to intervene, they were injured. Two CISF jawans accompanying me received head injuries and had to be hospitalised,” Tudu said.

A video captured the event showed the BJP candidate, his security, and many media crews being chased by a mob that was throwing stones at them. When he was attacked, his security team reacted quickly and took him out of the building safely. In the event, the BJP leader's car was also vandalised.

Lok Sabha Elections, Phase 6: One of the biggest elections in the world, the India Lok Sabha Election entered its penultimate stage with the sixth phase polling on Saturday (May 25). The first phase of the India General Election 2024 started on April 19 along with some state elections.

The first phase of the polling covered 102 constituencies of 21 states and union territories (UTs). Ten states and UTs were fully covered, while 11 states and UTs were partially covered.

In the second phase, with 88 seats contested, the final turnout stood at 66.71 per cent, showing a decrease of approximately 3 percentage points from 2019.

The elections will conclude on June 1 and counting of votes will be done on June 4, which will seal the country's fate.&nbsp;

The fifth phase of elections witnessed just over 60 per cent polling across 49 constituencies in six states and two Union territories. West Bengal registered the highest polling at 74.7 per cent.&nbsp;

This is a hilly area and some are snowbound areas and despite all this, they came to cast their votes and created history. In the general elections of 1984, there was the highest turnout in the Baramulla seat's forty-year existence, at 61.09 per cent.

At 8 pm, the Election Commission of India's voter turnout app indicated that 54.6% of voters had cast ballots in Baramulla. This is the greatest voter turnout in 35 years, dating back to 1989, when the seat had only 5% turnout. At 11.45 pm on Monday, the poll panel will give an updated number, followed by final statistics in the coming days.

He also alleged that PM Modi was supporting the "illegal" Mahayuti government in the Indian state of Maharashtra.

"We have not used bulldozers to date... The Election Commission should take action against those who make instigating speeches. The Prime Minister himself is doing it. He is provoking people. After our government comes, everything will be protected as per our Constitution, we will follow the Constitution," Kharge said during a media briefing in Mumbai.

He then claimed that the INDI alliance will win 46 out of the 48 seats in the state of Maharashtra and will defeat the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

"INDIA bloc will win 46 out of 48 seats in Maharashtra. People are saying this themselves. Our alliance will win maximum seats and defeat BJP...," Kharge claimed.

"If the Congress, SP and their INDIA partners come to power, our Ram Lalla would have to return to the tent again as they would run a bulldozer over the Ram Mandir. They should take lessons from Yogi-ji (Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath) on where to run bulldozers and where not to," PM Modi said on Friday (May 17).

"The Congress and the Samajwadi Party have become slaves to appeasement politics. And, when Modi uncovers the truth before the people, they accuse me of creating a Hindu-Muslim divide," he further said.

The Indian prime minister then exuded confidence that the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) was all set to register its third consecutive win and return to power again.

"June 4 (counting day) is not too far away now. All doubts will be cleared and the entire country and the world will know when we score a hat-trick of wins and return for a third term at the Centre."

If a voter's name appears twice or is not located during a door-to-door survey, the names are deleted. Before deleting names, a list of recommendations and complaints is saved for future reference.
