Iran is looking at this week's ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah as an opportunity to rebuild the Lebanon-based militant group, according to a report by the Washington Post.

The report, citing sources, said that the truce gives Iran a chance to reassess and regroup its most powerful proxy in the region and attempt to reestablish its deterrent capabilities.

As per the newspaper, Hezbollah was hoping for more support from Iran's other proxies present in the region at the time when Israel launched its military campaign against its sites across Lebanon.

“Lebanon was at its most vulnerable during heavy bombings, yet support from other members of the resistance axis, including Yemen and Iraq, was minimal at best,” one of the sources close to Hezbollah was quoted as saying.

During the war, Israel delivered several crushing blows to Hezbollah by killing the group's long-standing leader in September, along with other high-ranking officials.

“Iran is prepared to allocate funds for reconstruction and to ensure Hezbollah’s survival, as well as to maintain support within the Shiite community,” the source added according to the report.

Iran Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi welcomed the ceasefire on Wednesday (Nov. 27) and expressed hope that it would be permanent.

“Of course, we reserve the right to respond to the recent Israeli aggression, but we are taking all developments in the region into account,” he said.

Meanwhile, Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) Thursday (Nov. 28) reported the arrival of suspects into Lebanon's southern regions and called it a violation of the ceasefire by Hezbollah, reported news agency Reuters.

Earlier, the Lebanon-based militant organisation said its fighters were "full equipped to deal with the aspirations and assaults of the Israeli enemy” and said their forces had their hands on the "trigger." Earlier, Hezbollah claimed victory in the ongoing conflict with the Jewish nation without any mention of the fragile truce.

US President Joe Biden announced a ceasefire deal between Israel and Hezbollah on Tuesday (Nov. 26), which came into effect early Wednesday morning.

The long-awaited deal came after months of conflict between the Lebanese militant group and the Jewish nation.

While announcing the deal, France and the US, who played the mediators, said in a joint statement that the ceasefire deal would end the fighting in Lebanon and secure Israel from the "threat of Hezbollah."

Here's what we know about the Israel-Hezbollah ceasefire deal:

A 'permanent' deal

Joe Biden briefed the media while announcing the deal said that it is "designed to be a permanent ceasefire".

According to the ceasefire agreement, Hezbollah will remove its fighters and weapons from the area between the Blue Line over 60 days.

The Blue Line is the demarcation line that divides Lebanon from Israel and the Golan Heights.

The agreement further says that Hezbollah fighters will be replaced by the Lebanese army forces in the area around the Blue Line.

The Lebanese army will ensure the removal of Hezbollah weapons and its infrastructure from the area and will further prevent their rebuilding.

Meanwhile, over the same 60 days, Israel will remove its forces and civilians from the area.

Biden added that it would enable civilians from both sides to return home.

5,000 Lebanese troops in southern parts

The deal further asks for the deployment of 5,000 Lebanese army officials to the southern part of the nation.

However, the Lebanese army has reportedly said it does not have the required resources, like money, manpower, and equipment, to execute what the agreement asks.

But many Western officials have said that at this point, Hezbollah has weakened, and that emerges as an opportunity for the Lebanese government to re-establish control in the territory, said a BBC report.

Monitoring of the implementation

According to the report, the United States and France will join the existing tripartite mechanism, comprising UNIFIL, Lebanon, and Israel, which will be charged with monitoring violations.

"There will be no US combat troops in the area, but there will be military support for the Lebanese Armed Forces, as we've done in the past. But in this case, it'll be typically done with the Lebanese army and in conjunction with the French military as well," a US official told BBC.

Israel said 'will attack' if deal is violated by Hezbollah

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claimed after the deal was announced that his nation would respond to any violation by Hezbollah.

"If Hezbollah violates the agreement and tries to arm itself, we will attack. If it tries to rebuild terrorist infrastructure near the border, we will attack. If it launches a rocket, if it digs a tunnel, if it brings in a truck carrying rockets, we will attack,” Netanyahu said.

The US showed full support to Israel as Biden responded to Netanyahu's statement, saying, "If Hezbollah or anyone else breaks the deal and poses a direct threat to Israel, then Israel retains the right to self-defence consistent with international law."

Israel-Hezbollah War: Lebanon Ceasefire Drawing Closer, May Reach Deal This Week | World News

The Lebanon-based militant group Hezbollah has been using an advanced missile amid its ongoing war with Israel, which was reverse-engineered from an Israeli weapon it captured in a past war, the New York Times reported citing Israeli defence officials.

Reportedly, Hezbollah militants have seized the original Israeli Spike anti-tank missiles during the 2006 Israel-Hezbollah war in Lebanon and transported them to Iran for cloning, Israeli and Western defence officials and weapons experts have reportedly said.

Now, 18 years later, Hezbollah is using the rebranded Almas missiles at Israeli military bases, communication systems, and air-defence launchers.

According to reports, their attempt to fire these missiles was to make it challenging for the Israeli military forces. These missiles have a range of up to 10 miles and they carry advanced guidance seekers to track and lock onto targets.

Also read: ‘Firepower dramatically reduced,’ IDF eliminates Hezbollah’s anti-tank missile commanders

Iran and its allies forces have cloned weapons systems to use against the very adversaries who created them.

Notably, Iran has reportedly copied American drones and missiles.

Mohammed Al-Basha, a Middle East weapons analyst said that the Almas missile is an example of an increasing use of Iranian-engineered weapons that is "fundamentally altering regional power dynamics".

“What was once a gradual spread of older missile generations has transformed into rapid deployment of cutting-edge technology across active battlefields,” Al-Basha, an analyst who also runs a risk advisory firm based in the US state of Virginia, said last week.

The Israeli defence officials on a condition of anonymity, said that Almas missiles are among Hezbollah weapons stockpiles that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have captured since the start of their invasion of Lebanon around two months ago.

The Almas means diamond in Arabic and Persian. It is a guided missile that does not need a direct eye-line sight to launch from land vehicles, drones, helicopters, and shoulder-fired tubes.

Moreover, these missiles are so-called top-attack missiles, which means their ballistic trajectory can strike from directly above their targets instead of from the side and hit tanks where they are lightly armoured and vulnerable.
