<p>The NDA in Bihar at present constitutes the BJP, Kumar's Janata Dal (United) and Ram Vilas Paswan's Lok Janshakti Party.</p>

<p>"Narendra Modi, Nitish and Paswan exerted themselves for months, even used the government machinery to ensure a handsome turnout at Gandhi Maidan. The number of people who gathered there was about the same that I get flanked by whenever I stop my car at a paan ki gumti (betel shop). Try harder gentlemen, get the cameras zoomed (in) a bit more," Yadav said mockingly in his first tweet.</p>

<p>"The great public of Bihar, which always upholds justice, cut them down to size. When a man watches his plan fail, he can utter any type of falsehood, come up with all sorts of jumlas. Possibility of a defeat in Bihar has so badly shaken confidence that a speech teleprompter has been installed even though the address is being made in Hindi," the RJD supremo said in another tweet with the hashtag #BiharRejectsModi.</p>

<p>Sushil Kumar Modi came up with the riposte: "Everybody knows what type of crowds flanked the one whose rule was known for irregularities in purchase of fodder for cattle, B.Ed degrees awarded to young people aspiring for a career in teaching, and bitumen used in construction of roads. Clowns too are known to attract crowds.</p>

<p>"The convicted Lalu Prasad is frustrated over the enthusiastic response that the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister, both enjoying clean images, have received at the rally."</p>

<p>Meanwhile, the RJD's allies in the state -- the Congress, Upendra Kushwaha's Rashtriya Lok Samta Party and Jitan Ram Manjhi's Hindustani Awam Morcha -- besides other anti-NDA parties like CPI, CPI(ML) and the Aam Aadmi Party also issued statements describing the rally as a "super flop" and accused the BJP-led coalition of misusing government machinery to ensure a satisfactory turnout.</p>

<p>The former Chief Minister has been convicted in four fodder scam cases since 2013 -- the latest being the Dumka treasury case in which a special CBI court sentenced him to 14 years in jail.</p>

<p>A high drama erupted at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) over RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav’s discharge from the hospital.</p>

<p>Despite getting a clean chit from the hospital that he is “fit to travel”, Lalu Prasad has claimed BJP conspiracy behind the clean chit on his health.</p>

<p>AIIMS in its statement had said that Lalu's condition has improved significantly and as per advise of the medical board constituted for his treatment, he is being referred back to Ranchi Medical College.</p>

<p>In the letter to the AIIMS Director, Lalu Yadav said that he should not be discharged from the hospital until the time he is fully cured of all the ailments.</p>

<p>The Bihar leader protested his discharge from AIIMS alleging it is a conspiracy to deteriorate his health. He will be taken to the Jharkhand jail. Before that, he wrote a letter to AIIMS Director questioning his early discharge. "Why am I being discharged when I have not completely recovered? This is being done under some political pressure. If something happens to me, AIIMS would be responsible for it."</p>

AIIMS says Lalu Prasad fit to be discharged, RJD chief disagrees

<p>The Income-Tax department has attached a property worth more than Rs 3 crore near Patna, suspected to be a benami asset held by RJD chief Lalu Prasad's family members who are facing investigation in a land-for-hotels scam.</p>

<p>IT department officials have put an attachment notice on the said property in Sheikhpura locality of the state capital.</p>

<p>"The notice of attachment was affixed on the property, estimated to be worth Rs 3.5 crore, in Sheikhpura locality yesterday," a senior IT department official told PTI today.</p>

<p>The official said the property is in the name of a company, named Fairgrow Holding. He said a few members of the Lalu family were directors in the firm "till a few years ago".</p>

<p>He said Lalu's sons Tejashwi Yadav and Tej Pratap, besides daughters Ragini and Chanda, are no longer directors of the company. "However, notices sent to the company several times were not answered and no other claimant of the property came forward. It suggested the property was a benami holding".</p>

<p>Prasad, a former Bihar chief minister, is currently serving sentences in a number of fodder scam cases.</p>

<p>Members of his family have been named in cases filed by the Enforcement Directorate and the IT department in connection with the land-for-hotels scam.</p>

<p>The scam relates to transfer of prime land properties to Prasad's family by hotelier brothers of Patna in return for getting a contract for running two Railway hotels in Ranchi and Puri when Prasad was the Railway Minister in UPA-I government.</p>

<p>On one such land measuring 3 acres, Bihar's biggest mall is proposed. But the construction was stopped and the land has been attached by the Enforcement Directorate.</p>

IT department attaches Lalu family's suspected benami property in Patna

<p>Misa and Shailesh's involvement is being probed in a money laundering case worth Rs. 8,000 crore, investigation for which began in July last year.</p>

<p>Apart from the ED, the Income Tax (I-T) department has also issued a final attachment order against Bharti and her husband in a benami assets case.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, the Delhi High Court earlier in January granted bail to two accused businessmen, Surendra Jain and Virender Jain in connection with the same case, and asked them to furnish personal bonds of Rs 2 lakh each.</p>

Shatrughan Sinha meets Lalu Yadav, family; calls court verdict against him 'heartbreaking and non-expected'

<p>The case involves the fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 3.13 crore from December 1995 to January 1996 from the Dumka treasury.</p>

<p>Lalu was convicted in the case on March 19 by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court in Ranchi.</p>

<p>The special CBI judge Shiv Pal Singh delivered the judgement in the case under Indian Penal Code and&nbsp;the Prevention of Corruption Act.&nbsp;</p>

<p>He had pronounced him separate sentences of seven years each under the two sections. The two terms will be served consequently making the jail term to 14 years.</p>

<p>The CBI judge also imposed a fine of Rs 60 lakh on Lalu. He also directed the Enforcement Directorate to confiscate the assets acquired illegally&nbsp;from&nbsp;Dumka treasury.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The former Bihar chief minister is already serving sentences for three prior fodder scam-related convictions where he&nbsp;has been awarded jail terms of three and a half to five years. The sentence in these cases is&nbsp;running concurrently.</p>

<p>Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today rubbished the RJD&#39;s allegation that Lalu Prasad was &quot;framed&quot; in the fodder scam cases by the NDA regimes at the Centre and in the state.</p>

<p>RJD chief Prasad has been lodged in Ranchi&#39;s Birsa Munda jail since December 23 last, following his conviction in a fodder scam case. Subsequently, he was convicted in another case related to the scam.</p>

<p>&quot;What role did (Prime Minister) Narendra Modi or I have to play in the matter? It is an over-20-year-old case lodged by the CBI, which has been probing the matter following a Patna High Court order,&quot; Kumar told reporters here on the sidelines of his &quot;Lok Samvad&quot; (public interaction) programme.</p>

<p>&quot;In fact, I was not even one of the petitioners, on whose PIL the court had directed the CBI to take up the matter. (Deputy CM) Sushil Modi was, so was (state minister) Lalan Singh and (Jharkhand minister) Saryu Rai,&quot; the Janata Dal (United) president said.</p>

<p>Kumar&#39;s retort came in the backdrop of the repeated allegations levelled against him and the NDA by Prasad and his party, blaming them for the RJD chief going to jail again in the multi-crore-rupee fodder scam cases.</p>

<p>The chief minister also took potshots at RJD vice- president Shivanand Tiwary, without taking his name, saying, &quot;One of the petitioners (in the fodder scam cases) is now in their camp and I feel amused to see his reactions.&quot;</p>

<p>Tiwary, who was expelled from the JD(U) prior to the 2014 general election, has been saying that he regrets filing the PIL against Prasad.</p>

<p>&quot;I never comment on any judicial verdict. I did not do so in 2013 either,&quot; Kumar said, referring to Prasad&#39;s first conviction in a fodder scam case that also saw him getting disqualified from contesting elections.</p>

<p>Prasad and Kumar had joined hands to contest the 2015 Bihar Assembly polls, after which the latter returned as chief minister while the former&#39;s son, Tejashwi Yadav, became the deputy chief minister.</p>

<p>However, the JD(U) leader walked out of the coalition, following corruption cases filed against Tejashwi. Kumar then formed a new government with the BJP in the state in July last year.</p>

<p>&quot;I had not asked them (RJD) to declare me as the chief ministerial candidate, nor did my party make any such demand. They took the decision themselves, realising its poll prospects. They keep accusing me of betraying the mandate. We had got the mandate to govern, not to indulge in corruption,&quot; Kumar said.</p>

<p>Ever since the Grand Alliance, comprising the RJD, JD(U) and Congress, got dismantled, the RJD has gone on the offensive against Kumar. The attacks got sharpened after Prasad was sentenced to jail in the two fodder scam cases.</p>

<p>The over-Rs 900-crore fodder scam is related to irregularities in the animal husbandry department in combined Bihar in the early 90s when Prasad was the chief minister.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Bihar&#39;s chief minister Nitish Kumar, on Tuesday, had asked Tejashwi to come clean in a case filed against him, his mother Rabri Devi and father Lalu Yadav in awarding tender for hotels when Lalu Yadav was railway minister in the first UPA government from 2004 to 2009.</p>

<p>The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday summoned former Bihar chief minister Lalu Prasad&#39;s &nbsp;son-in-law Shailesh Kumar in an alleged money laundering case, ANI reported.</p>

<p>Kumar&rsquo;s wife and Lalu&rsquo;s daughter, Misa Bharti was yesterday questioned for eight&nbsp;hours.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The ED had, on Saturday, conducted searches at three Delhi farmhouses of Bharti, Kumar and the firm allegedly linked to them in the money laundering probe.</p>

<p>The ED is the third central probing body investigating the alleged financial irregularities by Lalu&#39;s&nbsp;family after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Income Tax department.</p>

<p>Earlier in June, India&rsquo;s Income Tax department charged Lalu&#39;s&nbsp;family, including his wife, son and daughters for holding <em>benami</em><em> </em>assets and for tax evasion.</p>
