Freed Americans return home following historic prisoner swap; Biden, Harris greet them at airport

Former United States President Donald Trump took a shot at his successor, Joe Biden following the recent prisoner swap with Moscow, which secured the release of American journalist Evan Gershkovich and former US Marine Paul Whelan from Russian custody. Trump called the massive prisoner exchange a victory for Russian President Vladimir Putin.

'A win for Putin': Trump

In an interview with Fox Business Network, taped on Thursday and broadcast on Friday (Aug 2), Trump said, "Well as usual, it was a win for Putin or any other country that deals with us. But we got somebody back, so I’m never going to be challenging that."

He added, "This deal that was made today, I think it’s wonderful that Evan’s coming back. I think it’s great. But these deals are so bad. These deals are going to lead to tremendous kidnappings."

Even though the prisoner swap is being celebrated as the biggest multi-country exchange since the Cold War, Trump has blamed Biden for mishandling the high-stakes compromise and failing to bring Americans home.

Trump calls for additional info about the exchange

Following the release of Gershkovich and Whelan, White House officials clarified that the deal did not involve any cash exchange. However, this statement did not satisfy the GOP presidential candidate, who took to Truth Social to confront the disagreement with unfounded claims.

"So when are they going to release the details of the prisoner swap with Russia? How many people do we get versus them? Are we also paying them cash? Are they giving us cash (Please withdraw that question, because I’m sure the answer is NO)? Are we releasing murderers, killers, or thugs? I got back many hostages, and gave the opposing Country NOTHING – and never any cash. To do so is bad precedent for the future. That’s the way it should be, or this situation will get worse and worse. They are extorting the United States of America. US President Joe Biden may announce plans for Supreme Court reform

The Donald Trump vs Kamala Harris presidential race is heating up. On Saturday, the two political rivals traded barbs from afar, calling each other names. While Harris called Donald Trump "just plain weird," Trump in exchange painted her as an "evil," and "unhinged" person.

This war of words marked a tumultuous week in the 2024 presidential race.

'He said- she said'

Harris' comments, as per Reuters, came just a few days after she ascended to the top of the presidential nominee list after being backed by US President Joe Biden.

During a private fundraiser headlined by singer-songwriter James Taylor, Harris criticised Trump and his running mate, Senator JD Vance's rhetoric was "just plain weird."

Harris called herself an "underdog," and said, "We are the underdogs in this race, but this is a people-powered campaign."

"Donald Trump has been resorting to some wild lies about my record. And some of what he and his running mate are saying, well, it's just plain weird," she said.

The phrase 'weird' as per the report represents a new Democratic strategy, with the Harris campaign portraying Trump as "old and quite weird."

While Harris called Donald Trump "just plain weird," Trump in exchange painted her as an "evil," and "unhinged" person. This war of words marked a tumultuous week in the 2024 presidential race. 'He said- she said' Harris' comments, as per Reuters, came just a few days after she ascended to the top of the presidential nominee list after being backed by US President Joe Biden.
A new poll by the Economist and YouGov, conducted between July 21 and 23, revealed that only 39 per cent of men would vote for Harris, compared to 47 per cent for former President Donald Trump. The poll surveyed 1,435 registered voters with a margin of error of 3.1 per cent.

Another poll by Emerson College, conducted between July 22 and 23, showed similar results, with male voters in most swing states favouring Trump over Harris.

Kamala Harris faces uphill battle: Polls show potential Democratic prez pick struggles to win over male voters

United States President Joe Biden endorsing his Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee for the presidential race, minutes after dropping his re-election bid was a big 'f**k you' to ex-president Barack Obama, a report in the New York Post has claimed.
Biden was forced by the Obamas and other senior Democrat leaders to drop out of the presidential race, multiple reports have claimed in the aftermath.
