A new report has painted a stark picture of US military spending: over the past five years, more than half of the Pentagon's discretionary budget has gone to private contractors — a staggering $2.4 trillion — in what is being described as a "continuing and massive transfer of wealth from taxpayers to fund war and weapons manufacturing". The study by the Quincy Institute for Responsible Statecraft and Brown University's Costs of War project, first reported by The Guardian, details how the lion's share of the Pentagon's $4.4 trillion discretionary budget between 2020 and 2024 ended up in the hands of arms makers and defence tech firms.
What did the report find?
As per the report, between 2020 and 2024, the five largest Pentagon defence contractors — Lockheed Martin, Raytheon, Boeing, General Dynamics, and Northrop Grumman — alone secured $771 billion in contracts. Overall, private firms received as much as 54 per cent of the department's discretionary spending."High Pentagon budgets are often justified because the funds are ‘for the troops'," said William D. Hartung, one of the report’s authors. However, he explained that as the report shows "the majority of the department's budget goes to corporations, money that has as much to do with special interest lobbying as it does with any rational defense planning." He added that "Much of this funding has been wasted on dysfunctional or overpriced weapons systems and extravagant compensation packages."The report also projects that the Trump administration's latest Pentagon budget will push overall US military spending past $1 trillion a year. This, despite Trump's early claims that he might slash defence spending, a $157 billion increase was pushed through Congress under his "One Big Beautiful Bill Act," effectively continuing — and even expanding — former president Joe Biden's administration's high defence budget. As per the report, since 2000, the US military budget has nearly doubled – an increase of 99 per cent."These figures represent a continuing and massive transfer of wealth from taxpayers to fund war and weapons manufacturing," said Stephanie Savell, director of the Costs of War project. The report authors say that the US withdrawal from Afghanistan, contrary to the projections, "did not result in a peace dividend". Instead, "President Biden requested, and Congress authorised, even higher annual budgets for the Pentagon, and President Trump is continuing that same trajectory of escalating military budgets. The report also highlights the sharp difference between what the US' Congress spent on development vs what it spent on defence. When calculated for inflation, the military spending clearly dwarfs the approximate $356 billion spent on diplomacy, development and humanitarian aid.

Trump uses F-word
Ahead of boarding Air Force One to attend the NATO Summit in the Netherlands, Trump angrily said, when asked about violation of ceasefire by Israel and Iran, "The two countries have been fighting so long and so hard that they don't know what the fuck they're doing, do you understand that?" Trump on June 24 declared that a ceasefire had been agreed between Israel and Iran and war had stopped, but both countries violated it soon after Trump's announcement and fired missiles at each other. This was a major upset for Trump, who angrily warned Israel against bombing Iran and lost his cool in front of reporters.

Last Week the POTUS had left the White House for the NATO summit at The Hague and had uttered the F-word while slamming Israel and Iran for violating the ceasefire. Now he has abused Joe Biden.

US President Donald Trump on Thursday (Jun 12) accused his predecessor Joe Biden's administration and California Governor Gavin Newsom of “flooding America with 21 million illegal aliens”. I am reversing the Invasion. It’s called Remigration. Our courageous ICE Officers, who are daily being subjected to doxxing and murder threats, are HEROES. We will always have their back as they carry out this noble mission. America will be for Americans again!” he added. In a separate post, the US president said, “Incompetent Gavin Newscum should have been THANKING me for the job we did in Los Angeles, rather than making sad excuses for the poor job he has done. If it weren’t for me getting the National Guard into Los Angeles, it would be burning to the ground right now!” During a press conference on Thursday, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem vowed a continued federal presence in Los Angeles and Southern California as immigration enforcement continues — and she warned that protesters who stir up violence will be arrested and prosecuted. Noem described protests that were transpiring in Los Angeles as “un-American.” “Masked thugs are assaulting police officers. They’re setting vehicles on fire. They’re waving foreign flags on American soil while burning American flags and they damaged public property and destroyed private businesses,” Noem said. “If you attack one of our law enforcement officers, we are going to come after you and we are going to arrest you, prosecute you and jail you,” she added.

This comes amid the administration's rising tension with California authorities over Trump's order to deploy thousands of military personnel amid anti-immigration protests in Los Angeles.

Trump’s border security adviser Tom Homan warned that he is convinced that the US will suffer a major terrorist attack because of former US president Joe Biden's immigration and border policies.Trump's border czar said there's a possibility of a 9/11 style attack conducted by migrants who illegally snuck across the southern border under Joe Biden."It's coming," he said about the possibility of 9/11-styled attack. "I'm convinced something's coming unless we can find them. It’s only a matter of time," Homan added.Homan expressed concerns about the roughly two million so called "gotaway" migrants whom Border Patrol agents never apprehended during the previous administration.“These 2 million known gotaways scares the hell out of me,” Homan said, adding that he fears some could be terrorists. While speaking to Fox News host Sean Hannity, the border czar said that it was shocking for him that millions of migrants went to great and extensive heights to avoid detection when the Biden administration was quickly releasing illegal border-crossers into the US.“Why did 2 million illegal aliens pay more to get away?” Homan told Hannity. “They could have paid half of what they paid to cross the border, turn themselves in to Border Patrol agents, get released that same day, get a free airline ticket to the city of their choice, get a free hotel room, get three meals a day, plus free medical care and work authorization.”“Two million people paid more to get away,” he said. “They didn’t want to be vetted. They didn’t want to be fingerprinted. Why?”“This scares the hell out of me and I’ve been doing this for 40 years. It should have scared the hell out of every American what the Biden administration did.”He further described the "gotaways" as the "biggest national security vulnerability this country’s ever seen”, predicting that the US will be dealing with the effects of Biden's border policies for the "next 10 years". Also read: 'Focus on fixing Catholic Church': Donald Trump's border czar Tom Homan tells Pope
