<p>A Chinese government statement on the Malta meeting largely echoed the US version, saying "the two sides conducted candid, substantive and constructive strategic communication."</p>

<p>Wang brought up the issue of Taiwan -- a self-governing, democratic island that China claims but which also receives strong US support -- as a "red line that cannot be crossed in Sino-US relations."</p>

<p>"The United States noted the importance of peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait," according to the White House readout.</p>

<p>During a press interaction in Washington on Tuesday (Sept 5), US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan was asked about Xi’s absence and the possible linkages to the present India-China tensions.</p>

<p>“As far as the question of tensions between India and China affecting the (G20) summit, really that's up to China. If China wants to come in and play the role of spoiler, of course, that option is available to them,” he said.</p>

<p>“What I think the Chair, India, will encourage them to do what we, the United States and every other member, virtually every other member of the G20 will do, is encourage them to come in, in a constructive way on climate, on multilateral development, bank reform, on debt relief, on technology and set aside the geopolitical questions and really focus on problem-solving and delivering for the developing countries,” Sullivan said.</p>

<h2><strong>Li Qang to arrive with delegation&nbsp;</strong></h2>

<p>On Monday, the Chinese foreign ministry announced that a delegation led by Premier Li Qiang will land in New Delhi while expressing Beijing's readiness to work with all parties to make the high-profile meeting a success.</p>

<p>At the invitation of the Government of India, Premier of the State Council Li will attend the 18th G20 Summit to be held in New Delhi, India on September 9 and 10, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning said in a brief statement.</p>

<p>The US-made shells provided to Ukraine have a significantly lower failure rate, Sullivan revealed and said that Ukraine's government has committed to post-war demining efforts to protect civilians from unexploded submunitions.</p>

<p>He said unexploded submunitions have caused harm in previous conflict zones for extended periods, media reports said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Sullivan drew a distinction between Russia's use of cluster munitions on Ukrainian territory and Ukraine's intention to use them for self-defense.</p>

<p>The aid package comprises 155mm artillery rounds, including Dual-Purpose Improved Conventional Munitions (DPICM), as well as 105mm artillery rounds, media reports said.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>Additionally, the package includes additional munitions for Patriot air defense systems and ammunition for High Mobility Artillery Rocket systems. <p>US President Joe Biden and PM Narendra Modi made a big move in May last year when they announced the elevation of the US-India iCET and plans for expansion in the strategic technology partnership between India and the US. Both leaders also leaned in for better defence industrial cooperation between the two countries.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The iCET is expected to forge closer linkages between the government, academia and industry of the two countries in areas such as artificial intelligence, quantum computing, 5G and 6G, biotech, space and semiconductors.</p>

<p>“We have certainly been in touch with them about what a priority it is for us to secure the release of Americans like Jeff Woodke, and that’s something that the Secretary confirmed when he was out there,” said the official, adding that more details about the citizen's release will be shared by Niger.</p>

<p>The government of Niger was thanked by the official for its efforts in freeing the US citizen and the official confirmed that no ransom was paid by the US officials to the terrorists.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, French journalist Olivier Dubois was also released along with Woodke. Dubois was kidnapped by militants in Mali in 2021.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In a press conference, Dubois said, "It's huge for me to be here today. I wasn't expecting it at all. I feel tired but I'm well."</p>

<p>The revival of the nuclear deal would be pointless unless the UN nuclear watchdog put an end to its probe of undeclared sites in the country, according to Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi.</p>

All of the safeguard issues must be resolved." × Referring to the traces of nuclear materials as a "safeguards" issue, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said it wants to clear up suspicions about earlier work at three undeclared sites. After Iran's failure to adequately explain the previous discovery of traces of enriched uranium at three sites, the IAEA's board of governors adopted a resolution censuring Tehran. Rejecting the idea of the agency closing its probe without receiving answers, IAEA chief Rafael Grossi told CNN that "This idea that politically we are going to stop doing our job is unacceptable for us." President Joe Biden has sought to return the US to the deal unilaterally since taking office in 2021. The European Union has carried out indirect negotiations between Tehran and Washington so far. <p>The development comes after Gantz told Sullivan that the US needs to ensure that it retains a viable military option against Iran’s nuclear facilities even if a new deal is reached with the Islamic Republic.</p>

On July 11, Sullivan claimed that Iran was preparing to sell hundreds of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), including weapons-capable drones, to Russia for use in the war against Ukraine.&nbsp;</p>

<p>For days thereafter, this bit of fake news continued to be disseminated, amplified, embellished and padded with more ‘information’ to impress how dangerous the deal was. Satellite images of Russians at an Iranian airfield were put out to buttress the fake news. Sullivan kept up the bluff by repeating it, on July 16, when US President Joe Biden was in Saudi Arabia for his West Asia summit. Biden’s four-day trip was to rally Arab leaders against Iran by showing it to be Russia’s collaborator in its war against Ukraine. &nbsp;</p>

<p>But eventually, Biden’s summit turned out to be a flop show. There were no takers for the US president’s proposals. Biden’s failure to make any headway on his visit or bind a clutch of leaders against Tehran led to a revival of the talks on the Iran nuclear deal (JCPOA), which the US under Donald Trump had jettisoned.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The absence of any takers for the fake news eventually made the White House declare, on July 29, that the US has no evidence of an Iran-Russia deal for drones. It noted that “no signs of purchase” have been observed, even weeks after Sullivan’s claim.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Kirby did the backtracking in a bid to undo the damage caused by this intelligence media stunt. He said that the White House has not seen any deal “that has been actually affected”. And, for good measure, added: “We’ve seen no indications of any sort of actual delivery and/or purchase of Iranian drones by the Russian Ministry of Defence.”&nbsp;</p>

US President Joe Biden orders work to begin on future 'digital dollar'

<p>White House National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan warned on Sunday (February 6) that Russian President Vladimir Putin could take military action against Ukraine "any day now".&nbsp;</p>

<p>The border tensions between Russia and Ukraine have heightened in the last couple of weeks with both sides amassing massive troops. However, there are calls to tackle the situation with diplomacy.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The United States and other Western countries have expressed their fears over potential Russian incursion but Kremlin denies it. The escalating tensions have created a war-like situation that could impact not just Europe, but the Asian countries&nbsp;significantly.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>"We are in the window. Any day now, Russia could take military action against Ukraine, or it could be a couple of weeks from now, or Russia could choose to take the diplomatic path instead," Sullivan told the "Fox News Sunday" program.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Moscow has said it is not planning an invasion but could take unspecified military action if its security demands are not met.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Those include a promise that NATO will never admit Ukraine, a demand the United States and the 30-nation Western security alliance have called unacceptable.&nbsp;</p>
