India, known for its policy of neutrality, has taken a neutral stance in the ongoing Israel-Iran war.Even as the military conflict between the two nations reaches new, dangerous levels, with both sides launching relentless cross-border attacks, including ballistic missiles and combat drones, India has chosen to stay true to its unique stance. But what about New Delhi's five closest allies: Russia, Saudi Arabia, the United States, France, and Qatar? Here's all you need to know.<h2>India's official stance: Neutral, and for peace</h2>Both Iran and Israel are India's strategic partners, and thus, ties with both nations are important for New Delhi. The nation has even sought to emphasise its "close and friendly relations with both countries" while reaffirming its readiness to extend support towards efforts of peace.In a recent statement, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said, "The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation has issued a statement on recent developments between Israel and Iran. India did not participate in the discussions on the above-mentioned SCO statement.""We urge that channels of dialogue and diplomacy be utilised to work towards de-escalation. It is essential that the international community undertake endeavours in that direction," it added.Meanwhile, speaking to his Iranian and Israeli counterparts – Dr. Abbas Araghchi and Gideon Sa’ar, India's External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar expressed “deep concern of the international community at the turn of events.”He also "urged avoidance of any escalatory steps and an early return to diplomacy".<h2>United States — Backing Israel, negotiating with Iran</h2>The United States has been a vocal supporter of Israel. Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump's administration has been engaging with Iran on reviving the nuclear deal. Seven rounds of the vital talks have taken place; the eighth is scheduled for June 15 in Oman.While Trump has called on Israel and Iran to “make a deal” in a recent interview, he also suggested that the warring nations may “have to fight it out” first.Speaking to reporters at the White House before departing for the G7 summit in Canada, Trump said, "I think it's time for a deal," adding, "But sometimes they have to fight it out, but we're going to see what happens."<h2>Saudi Arabia — Subtle lean toward Iran?</h2>Saudi Arabia has called for de-escalation and dialogue and has sought to label Israeli attacks on Iran a violation of international law.On Saturday, during a phone call with Israeli President Masoud Pezeshkian, Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman said that the attacks undermine the sovereignty and security of Iran and constitute a violation of international laws and norms.As reported by the Saudi Press Agency, the crown prince said attacks have disrupted ongoing dialogue to resolve the crisis surrounding Iran’s nuclear program and hindered efforts to de-escalate and reach diplomatic solutions.<h2>Russia — Quietly leaning toward Iran</h2>Russia, a strategic partner of India, has strong links with both Israel and Iran. Russian President Vladimir Putin has even spoken separately to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and has offered to act as a mediator.Ignoring the irony, the Russian leader, who is behind Russia's ongoing invasion of Ukraine, condemned Israel's attacks on Tehran as a breach of international law.<h2>France — Pro-Israel</h2>French President Emmanuel Macron on Friday said France could engage in “operations to protect and defend” Israel in the event of Iranian retaliation against Israeli strikes, provided France was “in a position to do so.”However, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot on Sunday (Jun 15) clarified that Paris has not deployed military, emphasising the decision was based on the nature and trajectory of the strikes "at this stage".<h2>Qatar — Openly critical of Israel</h2>Qatar, a Muslim nation, has sought to blame Israel for the spike in tensions.As per a TASS report, in a telephone conversation with Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani said that his nation would work on termination of the Israeli aggression against Iran together with its partners."Qatar will work with its partners at regional and international levels for the purpose of immediate termination of aggression against Iran and prevention of its catastrophic consequences for security, stability and welfare of the region," he said.Meanwhile, the Qatari Foreign Ministry in a statement, said, "The parties discussed in the conversation the latest developments in the region, including the Israel’s attack against the territory of the brotherly Islamic Republic of Iran".As India focuses on economic growth, and overtaking Japan becomes the fourth largest economy globally, can the fact that both Iran and Israel are vital trade partners shake its stance? Global financial markets and energy supply chains have been rattled by a sudden escalation in Central Asia tensions, as Israel launched strikes on Iranian military and nuclear sites, triggering retaliatory drone attacks from Tehran.&nbsp;The recent fallout has revived fears of a global inflation wave, with oil prices surging and trade disruptions looming.The price of the global oil benchmark, Brent crude, surged as much as 13 per cent on June 13, the steepest single-day jump since Russia’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine.&nbsp;Though prices eased slightly by market close, Brent still ended the day over 7 per cent higher, trading at $74.23 a barrel. Analysts warn the rally may be just the beginning if the conflict widens or if key oil infrastructure is hit.Energy traders are closely monitoring the Strait of Hormuz—a narrow but vital waterway through which 20–25 per cent of global oil supply and much of Qatar’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) pass.&nbsp;While shipping continues through the strait for now, the growing conflict has increased the risk of disruption. Iran, OPEC’s third-largest producer, pumps roughly three million barrels of oil per day—approximately 3 per cent of global output—and has in the past threatened to close the Strait in response to Western actions.“If the Strait of Hormuz is blocked, even temporarily, we’re looking at the biggest oil shock of all time,” Matt Gertken, chief geopolitical strategist at BCA Research, told Al Jazeera.&nbsp;The International Energy Agency (IEA) has said it stands ready to release the 1.2 billion barrels of emergency reserves to stabilise supply. But OPEC Secretary-General Haitham al-Ghais criticised the statement, warning that it could trigger unnecessary panic.<h2>IMF, Analysts warn of ripple effects</h2>The International Monetary Fund (IMF) estimates that a 10 per cent rise in oil prices could increase global inflation by 0.4 percentage points and reduce global GDP growth by 0.15 percentage points.&nbsp;Traders are now pricing in a potential $20-40 spike in oil prices if the conflict escalates, particularly if Iran targets production facilities in Iraq or disrupts shipping lanes.For countries like India, which imports over 80 per cent of its crude oil needs, the stakes are especially high. A rise in oil prices directly feeds into higher fuel, transport, and manufacturing costs, raising inflation and weakening the rupee. This could widen India’s current account deficit and dampen foreign investment sentiment.<h2>Markets slide, safe havens surge</h2>Global equities reacted sharply to the news. However, they noted that such a spike may encourage other producers to ramp up supply, limiting the long-term inflationary impact.Some airlines have suspended flights to Tel Aviv and Tehran, while merchant ships are proceeding with caution through the Strait of Hormuz. Countries like Greece and the UK have issued advisories for vessels to avoid high-risk waters, including the Gulf of Aden.With geopolitical tensions escalating and oil markets on edge, the world may be entering a new phase of energy insecurity and economic fragility—one where supply shocks, inflation risks, and geopolitical brinkmanship are closely intertwined.

Iran's Foreign Minister&nbsp;Abbas Araghchi issued a warning on Saturday (Nov 9) that the conflicts between Israel and Hamas in Gaza and the Jewish state&nbsp;and Hezbollah in Lebanon might extend beyond the Middle East.

In a speech aired on state TV, Araghchi warned, “The world should know that in case of the expansion of war, its harmful effects will not be limited only to the West Asia region; insecurity and instability can spread to other regions, even far away.”

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian suggested that the possibility of a ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon could influence Iran’s actions.

Iran warns of potential 'war expansion,' says conflicts could spread beyond the Middle East

United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Friday (Apr 19) said that America was "not involved in any offensive operation" and declined to comment on reports of Israel&nbsp;launching a retaliatory offensive against Iran.

"I'm not going to speak to these reported events... All I can say is for our part and for all the members of the G7 our focus is on de-escalation,"&nbsp;Blinken told a press conference on the Italian island of Capri.

"What we're focused on, what the G7 is focused on, and again, it's reflected in our statement, and in our conversation, is our work to de-escalate tensions, to de-escalate from any potential conflicts," he said.

The top United States diplomat reiterated the same response on being asked about the situation several times during the press briefing.

"The US has not been involved in any offensive operation," he said.&nbsp;

Earlier, at a separate news briefing, G7 host and Italy's Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said that the United States was notified about the Israeli strikes way in advance. However, he did not share much details.

"The United States were informed at the last moment," he said, adding that "it was just information" passed on -- without saying who by.&nbsp;

The Group of Seven ministers, in its final statement, said, "In light of reports of strikes on April 19th, we urge all parties to work to prevent further escalation. The G7 will continue to work to this end."

<h2>Iran ‘not planning’ retaliation against Israel&nbsp;</h2>

Iran is not planning any retaliation against Israel after Friday's (Apr 19) attacks, a top Iranian official was quoted by Reuters as saying.

“The foreign source of the incident has not been confirmed. We have not received any external attack, and the discussion leans more towards infiltration than attack,” the official said.

Earlier in the day, an explosion was reportedly heard near the Iranian city of Isfahan, the cause of which is not yet known. However, airspace over several Iranian cities was closed shortly after the explosion.

Iran subsequently said that it shot down several drones and that there had been "no missile attack for now".

Several drones "have been successfully shot down by the country's air defence, there are no reports of a missile attack for now", Iran's space agency spokesman Hossein Dalirian said on X.

"Flights over Isfahan, Shiraz and Tehran cities have been suspended," state media reported.&nbsp;

The province of Isfahan is home to a large air base, a major missile production complex and reportedly several nuclear sites.

Iran ‘not planning’ retaliation against Israel Iran is not planning any retaliation against Israel after Friday's (Apr 19) attacks, a top Iranian official was quoted by Reuters as saying. "Flights over Isfahan, Shiraz and Tehran cities have been suspended," state media reported. The province of Isfahan is home to a large air base, a major missile production complex and reportedly several nuclear sites. (With inputs from agencies)

US says ‘not involved in any offensive operation’ after Israel carries out retaliatory attacks against Iran

Israel’s Foreign Minister Katz on Wednesday (April 10) threatened that if Iran launches attacks from its own soil then Israel will strike back inside Iran. This statement came amid increasingly aggressive rhetoric between the two countries.

Earlier, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei stated&nbsp;that Israel should be punished and it shall be for allegedly attacking an Iranian consular building in Syria’s Damascus, which killed two generals among several Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps officers.

Iran, claiming its aim to eradicate the Jewish state, has developed rockets capable of reaching any part of Israel and has proudly asserted its capacity to launch attacks.

In a significant escalation of Israel’s conflict with regional foes, suspected Israeli warplanes carried out an airstrike on a building in the Syrian capital on April 1. Iran stated that the strike killed seven IRGC military advisers at a consulate site, including Iran’s top commander in Syria, Mohammad Reza Zahedi.

Khamenei condemned the strike, which demolished a five-story building near the Iranian embassy in Syria, stating that it violated international agreements safeguarding diplomatic premises.

“The consulate and embassy offices in any country belong to that country. Attacking a consulate is tantamount to an attack on our territory,” he declared in a speech marking the conclusion of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan. “The malicious regime made an error and must face consequences, which it shall,” he added.

However, State TV broadcast Khamenei’s remarks live, but he did not elaborate on how or when Iran would retaliate.

Earlier on Tuesday (April 9), unnamed US intelligence sources informed, that Iran is unlikely to attack Israel directly out of fear of American and Israeli retaliation and will urge its various proxies in the region to launch attacks on its behalf in the coming days.

Released on Monday night, the report raised doubts regarding the prior assessments made by both Washington and Jerusalem, suggesting that an attack by Iran was inevitable.

Notably, Israel has remained on high alert recently following threats of retaliation from Iranian officials&nbsp;after the Damascus airstrike that resulted in the death of IRGC's top commander in Syria, Mohammad Reza Zahedi, along with six other members of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and at least one member of the Iranian proxy group Hezbollah.
