Mia Schem, a 21-year-old French tattoo artist who was among the people abducted by Hamas militants during the Oct 7 attack, has revealed the "only reason" she wasn't raped during her captivity.

Speaking during an interview recently released on Israeli TV, the woman who spent 54 days in captivity said that the only reason she wasn't raped was because her captor's family was right outside the door.

"His wife was outside the room with the children," she said, adding, "That was the only reason he didn’t rape me."

<h2>A harrowing experience</h2>

Talking about her harrowing experience as a captive, Schem said that her tormentor kept her "closed in a dark room, not allowed to talk, not allowed to be seen, to be heard, hidden" for most of her captivity in Gaza.&nbsp;

She claims that she was starved and taunted by the captor's family.

Previously, a video of her went viral on social media, where, as she was getting released, Schem said that she was treated "good" in Gaza. However, in another interview later, she said that the statement was made under duress, they "stuck a camera in my face and said 'Say that we treated you nicely, that people in Gaza are nice and good.' What else was I supposed to do?"

Released Hamas hostage Mia Schem reveals the 'only reason' she wasn't raped

Al-Masry, at six months pregnant, had to flee her family home in Beit Hanun on foot, along with her three other children, seeking safety.&nbsp;

The family had to walk five kilometres (around three miles) to the Jabalia refugee camp. "The distance was too long,"&nbsp;the young woman told AFP.

"It affected my pregnancy," she added. On December 18, she gave birth by C-section to daughters Tia and Lynn and sons Yasser and Mohammed.&nbsp;

Of the four, Mohammed was too fragile to leave the hospital. However, to make space for other patients of war, Iman and her other newborns had to leave the medical facility.&nbsp;

"Mohammed weighs only one kilogram (2.2 pounds). He cannot survive," said Iman, talking about the child she had to leave behind at a hospital in the Nuseirat refugee camp.

The mother and her other three newborns are now living in a cramped schoolroom turned shelter in Deir al-Balah along with around 50 other members of their extended family.

Talking to AFP, she recounted her journey from "hell",&nbsp;and said: "When I left home, I had only some summer clothes for the children. I thought the war would last a week or two and that afterwards we would go back home."

Now, more than 11 weeks later, her hope of going&nbsp;home has shattered.

Back in November, the IDF showed what it said was proof that the basement of Rantisi was used by Hamas to hide weapons and possibly hold hostages that were taken to Gaza following Hamas’ October 7 attacks on Israel.&nbsp;

IDF spokesperson Daniel Hagari, in November, showed what he claimed was an underground command centre under the Rantisi Hospital and had suicide vests, rocket-propelled grenades, along with&nbsp;baby bottles and improvised toilets which he said indicated that Hamas held hostages there.&nbsp;

According to the Israeli army, one of the three shafts found in a high school adjacent to Rantisi was equipped with an elevator heading down some 20 metres. While another shaft was said to be the home of a commander in Hamas’ naval forces and was equipped with a blast door.&nbsp;

The tunnel network was demolished by combat engineers after being investigated, said the IDF.&nbsp;

<h2>WHO says Gazans in ‘grave peril’</h2>

The World Health Organization, on Wednesday, said that the people in Gaza are in “grave peril” citing acute hunger and desperation throughout the war-torn Palestinian territory. This comes as Israel is facing growing criticism from across the world over mounting civilian casualties amid its war with Hamas in Gaza.&nbsp;

The United Nations health agency said that it delivered supplies to two hospitals on Tuesday (Dec 26), and only 15 out of 36 hospitals in the Gaza Strip are functioning in any capacity at all.

Meanwhile, nearly 39 per cent of those who voted for the Likud party of Netanyahu said that they are willing to do so again.

Meanwhile, 73 per cent of the people said that official military spokesmen should be considered as the most trusted source.

<h2>Political establishments also against Netanyahu?</h2>

Not only the members of the public but also the highest echelons of the political establishments and security, believe the prime minister has been leading the country in this war.

“The daily decisions on the war are being made by the three ex-generals in the war cabinet,” said one senior official, while speaking about Defence Minister Yoav Gallant to former IDF chiefs of staff now-turned politicians Benny Gantz and Gadi Eisenkot, who joined the government when the war started.&nbsp;As per reports, Netanyahu had dithered and delayed decisions regarding when the ground offensive should be launched and if the hostage-release deal and a week-long truce should be accepted.

While visiting the front lines recently, he was quoted as saying to soldiers, “We are not stopping. Whoever talks about stopping — there is no such thing. We are not stopping. The war will continue until the end, until we finish it, no less.”&nbsp;

Muhammad Issa, son of Hamas' Deputy Military Commander Marwan Ussa has been killed, according to Israeli media reports.&nbsp;Muhammad&nbsp;succumbed to early morning airstrikes from the Israeli side on Thursday (Dec 28), a report in Ynet has claimed.&nbsp;

Notably, this is Issa's second son to die after&nbsp;his oldest son died about a year ago due to an illness. At the time, Marwan&nbsp;was unable to get him out of the Gaza Strip for treatment.

Earlier in the day, the Hostages and Missing Families Forum stated that the second American citizen had died in Hamas captivity. The forum said Judi Haggai had died, days after her husband Gad Haggai was also pronounced dead.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Hamas is yet to confirm Haggai's death and will probably never do as has been the case with other hostages. Although the terror outfit has warned that "time is running out" for the hostages as the war enters its 13th week.
