The internet connectivity is getting restored in the Gaza Strip, said the global network monitor Netblocks on Sunday (Oct 29) nearly two days after it was snapped amid heavy Israeli bombardment. 
 
“Confirmed: Real-time network data show that internet connectivity is being restored in the #Gaza Strip; service was disrupted on Friday amid heavy bombardment by Israel, leaving most residents cut off from the outside world at a critical moment," wrote the company on X, formerly known as Twitter.

In Gaza City, an AFP employee shortly after 4 a.m. (0200 GMT) stated that he was able to use the internet and was able to contact people in southern Gaza by phone. 
 
Meanwhile, Palestine Telecommunications (Paltel), in a post on its Facebook page, stated that the landline, cellular and internet connectivity are being restored gradually.

“Despite the seriousness of the field situation, our technical teams were and are still doing everything in their power to repair as much damage as possible to the network, as much as possible and within the available capabilities,” said Paltel, in its statement Sunday.

On Sunday, the Jawwal Telecommunication Company also stated that its telecommunication services were "gradually being restored." 
 
However, Qatari-owned telecommunications company Ooredoo, which has also been providing cellular service in Gaza, did not give any update on the services getting resumed.

<h2>Gaza Strip in communications blackout</h2>

The phone and internet access was snapped across the Gaza Strip since Friday, as the territory was bombarded by Israel. A massive bombing campaign was unleashed by Israel after Hamas gunmen entered Israel through the Gaza border on October 7, in which 1,400 people were killed, mostly civilians, and 230 hostages were seized, as per Israeli officials.

<h2>Gazans should move south: IDF</h2>

The Israeli military again asked the citizens to move to the south of the territory, where it stated that the humanitarian efforts "will be expanding". 
 
"Civilians in northern Gaza and Gaza City should temporarily move south of Wadi Gaza to a safer area where they can receive water, food and medicine," said IDF spokesperson Daniel Hagari, in a statement recorded on Saturday (Oct 28). 
 
"Tomorrow, the humanitarian efforts to Gaza, led by Egypt and the United States, will be expanding," he said.

South Korea is famous for its lightning fast internet. But now, it may have just become faster! A report showed on Wednesday how the country’s 5G speed and the overall connectivity had improved in the second half of 2020.

Based on data from South Korea’s Ministry of Science and ICT, it was figured that the average download speed on country’s three major telecom networks clocked in 690.47 megabits per second or Mbps. These three carriers include SK Telecom, KT Corp, and LG Uplus Corp.

With 690.47 Mbps, the speed has improved by 33.91 Mbps&nbsp;in the second half of 2020.

Sk Telecom had the fastest speed with 795.57 Mbps, followed by KT with 667.48 Mbps&nbsp;speed, and trailed by LG Plus with 608.49 Mbps.

According to Yonhap news agency, South Korea’s average 4G LTE download speed has now reached 153.1 Mbps, which is roughly four times slower than the average speed of 5G connectivity.

The country’s ministry published data on mobile speed and network quality twice a year, in a bid to push companies to keep improving.

"I watch a lot of videos often, movies and lectures," said buyer Shim Ji-hye, 38. "I hope faster speeds will help me manage my time better."

Another user said he was most excited about virtual reality content -- which includes games and even "celebrity VR dating" apps according to the country's mobile carriers.&nbsp;

With 5G, said researcher Lee Sang-yoon, VR content "can be enjoyed in real time with no delay... I'll be able to enjoy it in better resolution and speed".

Before Friday's roll-out of the Samsung phone, the 5G service had been restricted to a handful of specially selected users in South Korea.&nbsp;

Rival manufacturer LG is due to launch its V50 ThinQ, another 5G phone, in the South later this month, while in the US, Verizon's network works with Lenovo's Moto Z3 smartphone fitted with a special accessory.

Commercialising 5G gives South Korea the chance to build around the technology, which is crucial for the future development of devices such as autonomous vehicles and the Internet of Things.

It is expected to bring about $565 billion in global economic benefits by 2034, according to the London-based Global System for Mobile Communications, an industry alliance.

The implications of the new technology have pitted Washington against Beijing -- whose firms dominate 5G technology -- in an increasingly bitter standoff.

Ajit Rai, chairman of US federal communications commission (FCC) has issued a statement opposing federal government move to build a super-fast 5G wireless network on Monday.

He called running a national super-fast network &quot;costly and counterproductive.&quot;
