He shared the video with the name ‘Giving snakes their legs back.’ Pan then stated that the main objective behind this innovation is to showcase his love for “snakes.” Pan claimed that he wants to push nature’s boundaries by giving the snake new limbs to make up for the fact that their vestigial legs disappear before birth.

A&nbsp;record&nbsp;277,500 international patents were filed in&nbsp;2021, marking a 0.9-percent increase from 2020, the&nbsp;UN's World Intellectual Property Organisation said in its annual overview.

"These figures show that human ingenuity and entrepreneurial spirit remain strong despite the disruptions caused by the pandemic." WIPO Director-General Daren Tang said in a statement.

Last year marked the 12th consecutive year of growth in international&nbsp;patent&nbsp;filings.

WIPO's chief economist Carsten Fink highlighted how remarkable it was that "international&nbsp;patent&nbsp;filings&nbsp;continued to grow in 2020 and&nbsp;2021&nbsp;as the&nbsp;global&nbsp;pandemic unfolded and upended economies around the world."

"This experience is notably different compared to previous economic crises," he told reporters, pointing to how international&nbsp;patent&nbsp;filings&nbsp;fell during the&nbsp;global&nbsp;financial crisis in 2009.

WIPO's complex system of registering international patents involves multiple categories, including&nbsp;global&nbsp;trademarks and design filing systems.

China on top

In the main category -- the&nbsp;Patent&nbsp;Cooperation Treaty, or PCT -- China remained at the top of the rankings with 69,540&nbsp;filings.

That marks a mere 0.9-percent increase over 2020.&nbsp;

But a year earlier, China registered a 16-percent jump over 2019, when it for the first time overtook the United States as the world's top international&nbsp;patent&nbsp;filer.

The United States remained in second place in&nbsp;2021, with 59,570&nbsp;filings, followed by Japan with 50,260, South Korea with 20,678 and Germany with 17,322.

The&nbsp;UN&nbsp;agency highlighted significant growth in applications by several smaller filers as well.

Singapore, for instance, saw its international&nbsp;patent&nbsp;applications swell by 23 percent to 1,617, while Finland and Turkey each saw jumps of over 13 percent.

WIPO's report showed that Asia-based applicants accounted for 54.1 percent of all&nbsp;filings&nbsp;last year, up from 38.5 percent a decade earlier.

For the fifth consecutive year, China-based telecoms giant Huawei Technologies topped the&nbsp;global&nbsp;ranking in&nbsp;2021, with 6,952 PCT applications.

The company thus applied for more international patents than all the&nbsp;filings&nbsp;out of Britain in&nbsp;2021, Fink pointed out.

It was followed by US firm Qualcomm Inc at 3,931; South Korea's Samsung Electronics at 3,041 and LG Electronics at 2,855; and Mitsubishi Electric Corp of Japan at 2,673.

Computer technology accounted for the largest share of published PCT applications, making up 9.9 percent of the total, followed by digital communication and medical technology.

The pharmaceutical field recorded the strongest growth rate for&nbsp;filings, seeing a 12.8-percent jump, followed by biotechnology, which was up 9.5 percent.

Fink pointed out that it takes around 18 months for patents to be published after they are filed, warning that the official&nbsp;2021&nbsp;figures might not yet completely reflect pandemic-fuelled technology trends.

“About two years ago, we were watching some TV news regarding flooding. Looking at the widespread damage caused, our daughter asked - 'Why can't people save themselves by using something like our inflatable pool?’ This sparked an idea in our minds and we deliberated upon it and improvised. That's how the concept came into being" Naresh, a PhD holder, engineering professor and Vishalini's father, told WION.

Christmas is a particularly complicated period, especially for parcels. The production of waste is growing, when instead it must decrease.” &nbsp;

The Prime Minister also informed that in the present day, India is the third largest startup nation in the world.

"India today is the third largest startup country. In the last 3-4 years, more than 15000 startups have been set up. Majority of the startups that have begun are from small towns," he added.

Taking a jibe at the previous governments, he alleged that before his government came into power, taxpayers were called "thieves."

"Initially taxpayers were called thieves. I changed this perception. Even the utmost respect given to taxpayers is less. It is the taxpayer who builds the country."

A total of 1,373 teams comprising more than 10,500 students are participating in the hackathon across the country to develop coding solutions for problems put forth under several domains by various ministries.The hardware edition of the hackathon would be held in June 2019.&nbsp;

A total of 1,373 teams comprising more than 10,500 students are participating in the hackathon across the country to develop coding solutions for problems put forth under several domains by various ministries.The hardware edition of the hackathon would be held in June 2019.

He said what drives productivity is pertinent when it comes to innovation and is a very relevant question for India as it seeks to move up the ladder from low middle income to high-income country.

Releasing a World Bank report on innovation in developing countries, he said: "I think we can do a Silicon Valley in India in the next five years..as the world is changing, we can leapfrog.

"I believe firm size, firm capability and innovation have a strong relationship. More needs to be done in the innovation ecosystem in India where firms continue to remain stagnant."

In developing countries, the concept of national innovation system must be expanded, said the World Bank Chief Economist for Equitable Growth, Finance and Institutions, William F Maloney.

According to the report, investments for innovation often consist of marginal improvements in process or products, rather than significant technology adoption or new product imitation.

"They very rarely involve frontier research...if a firm (or country) invests in innovation but cannot also import the necessary technology, contract or hire trained workers and engineers, or draw on new organisational techniques, the returns to that investment will be low."&nbsp;

Returns from investments in research and development (R&D) rise initially, but lack of complementary factors over time result in their decline, the report said.

"The policy maker's conception of the national innovation system (NIS) must go beyond the usual institutions and policies designed to offset standard innovation-related market failures. The scope of the NIS must include broader complementary factors and supporting institutions," it added.

Further, innovation cannot be supply driven, there must be demand from firms that have the capabilities to innovative.

"On this demand side, the firm and its decisions to innovate, policymakers must be concerned with the incentives for firms to accumulate the necessary physical, human and knowledge capital," Maloney said.

Amazon has invested $3.7 billion on buildings and infrastructure in Seattle from 2010 to summer 2017, a figure that has public officials competing for its &quot;HQ2&quot; salivating. Amazon has said it expects to invest more than $5 billion in construction of HQ2 and to create as many as 50,000 jobs.

According to World Health Organisation, antimicrobial resistance threatens the effective prevention and treatment of an ever-increasing range of infections caused by bacteria, parasites, viruses and fungi. 
 
It is an increasingly serious threat to public health that requires action across all government sectors and society. 
 
Earlier before Sherpas meet at Beijing in January, Panagariya had said India will push for poverty alleviation and sustainable development besides trade and investment at the G20 forum. 
 
India intends to eliminate poverty by 2030. It wants to boost trade and investment as these are instruments of eliminating poverty. 
 
G20 members include G8 countries, namely, the US, Japan, Germany, the UK, France, Italy, Canada and Russia; and the 11 emerging and developing countries, namely, Argentina, Australia, Brazil, China, India, Indonesia, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, South Africa and Turkey; and the EU.

Besides, he said the regular issues such as climate change, trade and energy will also be discussed at the meet. The meet will also discuss the global economic situation and review the progress on preparation for Hangzhou Sumit to be held in September this year. The other issue which will come up for detailed deliberation are anti-corruption, counter terrorism financing, refugee crisis and AMR (Antimicrobial resistance). According to World Health Organisation, antimicrobial resistance threatens the effective prevention and treatment of an ever-increasing range of infections caused by bacteria, parasites, viruses and fungi. It is an increasingly serious threat to public health that requires action across all government sectors and society. Earlier before Sherpas meet at Beijing in January, Panagariya had said India will push for poverty alleviation and sustainable development besides trade and investment at the G20 forum. India intends to eliminate poverty by 2030. It wants to boost trade and investment as these are instruments of eliminating poverty. G20 members include G8 countries, namely, the US, Japan, Germany, the UK, France, Italy, Canada and Russia; and the 11 emerging and developing countries, namely, Argentina, Australia, Brazil, China, India, Indonesia, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, South Africa and Turkey; and the EU.
