LeBron James and Anthony Davis led the Los Angeles Lakers over the Indiana Pacers to win the maiden NBA in-season tournament on Saturday (Dec. 9). Both, James and Davis scored in double digits as the Lakers beat the Pacers 123-109&nbsp;to clinch the final.

The game started at a frantic pace&nbsp;as the first quarter saw both teams scoring a total of 63 points. The Lakers, however, took a five-point lead by outscoring Indiana 34-29 in the first 12 minutes. The Pacers caught up with Los Angeles in the second quarter, scoring 31 points, same as the Lakers.

Indiana, however, still trailed by five points going into the halftime. Come second half, the pace of the game went slow as the teams scored in 20s. The Lakers, nonetheless, grew their lead to eight points as they outscored the Pacers 25-22 in the third quarter.&nbsp;

The Pacers tried their heart out in the final 12 minutes but could score only 27 points against the Lakers' 33, eventually conceding the game by 14 points.

For the Lakers, Davis scored a double-double with 41&nbsp;points and 20 rebounds to go with 6&nbsp;assists. LeBron also scored a double-double of his own, scoring 24&nbsp;points and 11&nbsp;rebounds to go with 4&nbsp;assists. The duo did bulk of the scoring while Austin Reaves (28&nbsp;points), D'Angelo Russell (13 points) and Cam Reddish (9) also chipped in with handy points.

For the Pacers, point guard Tyrese Haliburton scored a double-double of 20&nbsp;points and 11&nbsp;assists. Apart from him Myles Turner scored 10 points, Obin Toppin scored 13, Bennedict Mathurin was handy with 20&nbsp;points, Aaron Nesmith scored 15&nbsp;and Isaiah Jackson chipped in with 10 points.

Former England skipper Mike Atherton has called the current Indian pace attack the 'best he has ever seen.' The comments come on the back of Indian pacers' menacing display of bowling where they bundled out Sri Lanka for 55 in a chase of 358 during an ODI World Cup 2023 match on November 4.

"They've looked the best team by a country mile,” Atherton said on the latest episode of The ICC Review podcast.

"They've got the best bowling attack. That's really the thing that has stood out for me.

“They're a very good all-round side, obviously, but to watch them tonight against Sri Lanka here in Mumbai, and then the way they bowled against England in Lucknow, those seamers are making early in-roads and then making life much easier for the spinners.”

Atherton, while comparing the current lot of Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah to older India pace attacks, said: "(Javagal) Srinath and (Venkatesh) Prasad, when I played, were very good, Zaheer Khan obviously. They've had very, very good bowlers but this three, backed up by the two spinners, it's a really top quality all-round attack right now."

"It's going to be a taster of what may be to come in the knockout stages.” 
 
Talking about India's next ODI World Cup 2023 match against South Africa, Atherton said it'll be interesting to see if the Proteas can bat as aggressively as it has been doing.&nbsp;

"Whether the players can hold their nerve, whether South Africa can still bat as aggressively and as well against India's pace attack, that remains to be seen. It'll be a good pointer to what's to come.”

Both India and South Africa are at top two positions, respectively on the points table and they play each other on November 5 in Kolkata.

In a major setback for Mohammed Shami, the Kolkata police Thursday charged the Indian pacer under IPC 498A and 354A for alleged dowry harassment and sexual harassment respectively.

After this charge sheet, Shami's World Cup campaign could be in jeopardy as the next hearing of the case has been kept on June 22, while the ICC tournament starts from May 30.

The charge sheet was filed after Shami’s estranged wife Hasin Jahan accused him of domestic violence.&nbsp;

On March 8, 2018 Jahan lodged a complaint against her husband and his elder brother Hasib Ahmad. Allegations of threat, infidelity and dowry demand were levelled against the cricketer, which the cricketer denied.&nbsp;

A court here Wednesday directed Indian pacer Mohammed Shami to appear before it on January 15 in connection with a complaint of cheque bounce filed by his wife, with whom he is embroiled in a marital dispute case.

Alipore Judicial Magistrate Md Zafar Parwej, in-charge of the chief judicial magistrate court on this day, said that failure to appear personally may invite a warrant of arrest against Shami.

His wife Hasin Jahan filed the case under NI Act after the cricketer had allegedly stopped payment of a cheque which he had given to her for monthly expenses after a marital dispute arose between the two, following which they were residing separately.

The CJM had directed Shami to appear before the court on Wednesday after he had failed to appear on an earlier date in October.

But the cricketer was not present in the court on Wednesday too.

His lawyer Sk Salim Rahaman pleaded before judge Parwej that Shami be allowed to appear through the counsel.

The judge, however, said that the law was the same for everyone and directed Shami to appear personally on January 15, 2019.

The court said that failure on the part of Shami to appear before the court on the said date may invite issuance of arrest warrant against him.

Mohammed Shami took a sigh of relief after Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administration (CoA) cleared his name and gave him a clean chit in the match-fixing allegations, earlier, levelled by his estranged wife Hasin Jahan.&nbsp;
