India likely recorded strong double-digit economic growth in the last quarter but economists polled by Reuters expected the pace to more than halve this quarter and slow further toward the end of the year as interest rates rise. The median expectation for 2022 growth was 7.2 per cent, according to an August&nbsp;22-26 Reuters poll, but economists said that the solid growth rate masks how rapidly the economy was expected to slow in coming months.

"Even as India remains the fastest-growing major economy, domestic consumption will perhaps not be strong enough to drive growth further as unemployment remains high and real wages are at a record low level," said Kunal Kundu, India economist at Societe Generale.

"By supporting growth through investment, the government has only fired on one engine while forgetting about the impetus which domestic consumption provides. This is why India's growth is still below its pre-pandemic trend."

The economy has not grown fast enough to accommodate some 12 million people joining the labour force each year.

Meanwhile the RBI, a relative laggard in the global tightening cycle, is set to raise its key repo rate by another 60 basis points by the end of March to try to bring inflation within the tolerance limit. [ECILT/IN]

That follows three interest rate rises this year totalling 140 basis points, and would take the repo rate to 6.00 per cent by end-Q1 2023.

While the central bank's mandated target band is 2%-6%, inflation was expected to average 6.9 per cent and 6.2 per cent this quarter and next, respectively, before falling just below the top end of the range to 5.8 per cent in Q1 2023. That is roughly in line with the central bank's projection.

"Despite signs of a cool-off in price pressures...it is premature to go easy on the inflation fight given considerable uncertainties from geopolitical risks and hard landing risks in major economies," said Radhika Rao, senior economist at DBS.

The economy is also enduring inflation pressure from a weak rupee, which for months has been trading close to 80 to the US dollar, a level the central bank has been defending in currency markets by selling dollar reserves.

The latest Reuters poll also showed India's current account deficit swelling to 3.1 per cent of gross domestic product this year, the highest in at least a decade, which may put further pressure on the currency.

One method to help with air pollution was an air purifier. However, an air purifier might be installed inside a house or a place, but people riding bikes are completely unprotected.

Pathak said that his company developed the helmet air purification system that has replaced the filter membrane and a fan that is driven by a battery that lasts six hours and can be recharged using a microUSB port.

In 2019, helmet sales began, and an independent laboratory discovered that the helmet prevented 80 percent of pollutants from entering the nostrils.

As Reuter’s poll stated, the helmet reduced outdoor PM 2.5 particle concentrations by 43.1 micrograms.

The Indian ministry states the helmet is "a breath of new air for bicyclists," Reuters reported.

Pathak sees a significant possibility for its sales. Shellios has partnered with a major manufacturer to create a lighter version of it using thermoplastic, which will reduce the cost of production and weight as well.

Pathak claims that other Southeast Asian countries have also shown interest in the product.

Mincing no words, the Indian high commission to Sri Lanka on Saturday gave an earful to Chinese envoy to Sri Lanka Qi Zhenhong, pointing to his recent remarks as "violation of basic diplomatic etiquette" which "may be a personal trait or reflecting a larger national attitude". The Chinese ambassador had written in 'Sri Lankan Guardian' and said that Sri Lanka "overcome aggression from its northern neighbour 17 times" in an apparent taunt to New Delhi.

The Indian high commission in a series of tweets stated that it had noted the remarks. The high commission further added that Zhenhong's view of "Sri Lanka's northern neighbour may be coloured by how his own country behaves,"

China, which is the northern neighbour of India has taken a series of aggressive actions at the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Ladakh, including the infamous Galwan incident. In the 2020 Galwan incident, India lost 20 of its soldiers while China also lost four of its soldiers but the figure remains doubtful given Beijing's track record on transparency.

The statement said, " Sri Lanka needs support, not unwanted pressure or unnecessary controversies to serve another country’s agenda."

While Chinese envoys globally have been indulging in undiplomatic behaviour, also known as "wolf warrior diplomacy", this is the first time in the region at a Chinese ambassador has publicly indulged in such uncouth behaviour against India.

Speaking exclusively to WION in one of his last interviews, Ambassador Pham said, "We see engagement in defense cooperation especially in Defense production.&nbsp;We are going into the final stage of the 500 million credit line for equipment in defense. Relationship ranges from training to equipment purchase, to equipment production, to geopolitics, to sharing information."&nbsp;

During Defence Minister's visit, both sides had inked ‘Joint Vision Statement on India-Vietnam Defence Partnership towards 2030’ to enhance defence cooperation. Development comes, even as neighboring Philippines has agreed to buy Brahmos missile from India and interest has been seen from other ASEAN member countries as well.&nbsp;

Asked about the state of the relationship, the ambassador explained, "In the past 4 years, bilateral relations between India and Vietnam have reached a new height in all the areas. We have very frequencies of high-ranking delegations' exchange. We have very good economic relations, with trade reaching 15 billion USD, and a number of big investments in both countries in 2 ways."

Even as political ties have seen firming up, to increase people to people relation&nbsp;17 direct flights today run between 6 cities of India and 4 cities of Vietnam. Asked about his memories of India, the Ambassador said, "the fondest memory for me it's the people itself. India is very generous, Indians treat guest as God, I see this is true. Wherever I travel, I get warm hospitality. Therefore, In India I like travelling. I tried to cover all the states. "

On India's role in the world, the ambassador highlighted that, "India role is growing tremendously high in the world, and everyone wants to come to make case. India is not only growing int terms of economic weight, but political weight, and importantly cultural weight." In response to a question on Russia-Ukraine conflict and its impact, he said, "there is hike in price of food and energy. We are living in a world with a lot of turbulence, so we are trying to do our part. India is doing its part, to make sure this world is less hit by all these conflicts. Vietnam and India stand for peace"

We are living in a world with a lot of turbulence, so we are trying to do our part. India is doing its part, to make sure this world is less hit by all these conflicts.
