Solih during his campaign had said that working with other parties would give the MDP a future in Maldivian politics. In order to keep the MDP in power, he has often said that he will establish a coalition with other parties. He refers to this alliance as the "winning formula." Solih's win on Saturday ensures him the presidential ticket of the biggest political party in the Maldives.

In the Maldives, this is the first time a sitting president has run for office in a party primary. Solih is the seventh president of the Republic of Maldives. 60-year-old Solih took office in 2018 for a five-year term. He'll run in the September election for the position of president.

It claimed&nbsp;that the MDP administration has allowed Indian forces to be stationed on Maldivian land.

After being found guilty of money laundering and bribery late last year, Yameen is currently serving an 11-year jail term. This jail term prevents him from running for office. However, his Progressive Congress Coalition is seeking to develop a legal argument for a higher court to exonerate him.&nbsp;

India has sent a notice to Pakistan calling for renegotiations of the Indus Waters Treaty, by modifying it, in the backdrop of the dispute resolution mechanism in a logjam for 5 years. This is for the first time New Delhi has called on Islamabad for the modification of the treaty that was signed in 1960 in Karachi between the then-Indian Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and then-Pakistani President Ayub Khan.&nbsp;

Sources said, "India has issued notice to Pakistan for modification of the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT) of September 1960..Pakistani intransigence on the Indus Waters Treaty forced India to issue a notice of modification to the Treaty". The notice for modification is in line with the Article XII (3) of the treaty. Under the notice, India has called on Pakistan to enter into intergovernmental negotiations within 90 days to "rectify the material breach" of the treaty and also "update the treaty to incorporate the lessons learned over the last 62 years", sources explained. While India has not listed out what can be modified, a change in any provision means a new treaty.&nbsp;

Under the Indus water treaty of 1960, the waters of 3 Eastern Rivers - Sutlej, Beas, and Ravi are allocated to India for unrestricted use while the waters of 3 Western rivers - Indus, Jhelum, and Chenab go to Pakistan. Additionally, New Delhi has the right to generate hydroelectricity through the run of the river projects on the 3 Western rivers, subject to specific criteria for design. Under the treaty, &nbsp;Pakistan can raise technical objections on the design of Indian hydroelectric projects on Western rivers.

One of the key issues has been dispute resolution mechanisms that have led to India issuing the notice. Article 9 of the treaty lays out the provision of dispute resolution with 3 stage graded mechanism. The first stage is a question that can be resolved at the level of Indo-Pak Indus water commissioners. If it is not resolved at that stage, then it becomes a difference that can be resolved by neutral experts. If neutral experts fail to resolve, then it comes to the stage of Court of arbitration.

In 2015, Pakistan requested the appointment of a neutral expert to examine its technical objections to India’s Kishenganga and Ratle Hydro Electric Projects (HEPs). The following year, that is 2016, Pakistan unilaterally retracted from the "neutral expert" mechanism and proposed that a "Court of Arbitration" decide on its objections. Meanwhile, India made a separate request for the matter to be referred to a neutral expert. The initiation of two simultaneous processes on the same issue essentially creates a legal issue. That year, the World Bank had paused the process, only to revive it in March 2022.

Sources pointed out, "at Pakistan’s continuing insistence, the World Bank has recently initiated actions on both the neutral expert and Court of Arbitration processes. Such parallel consideration of the same issues is not covered under any provision" of the treaty, adding, "faced with a such violation of the treaty provisions, India has been compelled to issue a notice of modification". Despite repeated efforts by India to find a mutually agreeable way forward, Pakistan refused to discuss the issue during the five meetings of the Permanent Indus Commission from 2017 to 2022.

The last Indus water talks took place in Delhi between India's Indus water commissioner AK Pal and Pakistani counterpart Mehr Ali Shah. The next meeting of the Indus water commission will take place in Pakistan.

According to the police the couple gave poison to their children and later had it themselves too.&nbsp;

While speaking with ANI news agency, Vidisha DM said, "A man, Sanjeev Mishra, committed suicide along with his wife and two children in Vidisha. He posted a suicide note on social media mentioning he couldn't save his children suffering from a genetic disease, treatment for which isn't available. All four are dead."

The deceased were identified by the police as Sanjeev Mishra (45), his wife Neelam (42), and their sons Anmol (13) and Sarthak (7).&nbsp;

According to multiple reports, Mishra also left a suicide letter where he wrote, “We are facing trouble for the past five years. ...we have decided to end our lives." Additional police superintendent Sameer Yadav said that after seeing the social media post some friends rushed to their house but they found it was locked from the inside. “They tried to open the gate and informed the police about it," he added.&nbsp;

Family's relatives also spoke to the police and said that the couple tried their best to get their sons treated but their condition was deteriorating.

"Today’s Doodle artwork is crafted from intricately hand-cut paper. Many elements of the Republic Day parade are represented in the artwork including the Rashtrapati Bhavan (where the president resides), the India Gate, the CRFP marching contingent, and motorcycle riders," Google Doodle stated.&nbsp;

While talking about the Republic Day Google Doodle, Kothekar stated, "My inspiration was to create a portrait of India. The exhibition that takes place during the Republic Day parade is vast and humbling! I wished to weave various strands and elements of it together."

"During my school days, every year I would be mesmerised by the Republic Day parade. Receiving this opportunity enlivened that fascination and I thoroughly enjoyed diving into it as I went into details of every facet displayed on the papercut. I learned a lot through this process,” the artist added.&nbsp;

The complete Google Doodle shared on Republic Day was completed by Kothekar in 4 days, as he worked 6 hours a day. "I wanted to demonstrate the complexity of India, with all of its interconnected facets!" stated Kothekar.&nbsp;

India is celebrating its 74th Republic Day on Thursday. Egypt's President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi is present as the chief guest for the Republic Day celebrations this year. The theme of Republic Day this year is 'Jan Bhagidari'.
