Students may get "credits" for knowing&nbsp;the Puranas, the Vedas, and other components of the Indian knowledge system, according to the new National Credit Framework (NCrF) that the University Grants Commission unveiled on Tuesday.&nbsp;

The NCrF will incorporate learning across a variety of axes, including academics, career-related skills, and even experiential learning, involving relevant experiences and proficiency/professional levels achieved.&nbsp;

Even online, digital, and hybrid learning could soon be "creditised" and accumulated, according to the proposal, as reported by PTI.&nbsp;

The NCrF document, which was released on Monday evening, lists 64 "kalas," or applied sciences, as well as 18 key "vidyas," or theoretical areas, that can be taken into account for credit accumulation.

The UGC released the draft of the framework for feedback from the public in October of last year with the goal of placing the school education system under a credit system. Every learning subject can be "creditised" to its assessment according to the framework.

The NCrF has split the learning ecosystem into eight levels and assigned credits based on learning hours from class 5 up to PhD level, encompassing school education for the first time under a credit structure.

"Nothing is left unmeasured. Outside of classroom learning, sports and games, yoga, physical activities, performing arts, handicrafts, bagless days will also be part of the evaluation framework," the report said.

The Indian knowledge system is listed in the final report as well, and is included under the "special achievers" category. The draft of the document&nbsp;that was published in October lacked any mention of this.

Sports and games, personalised arts, master craftsmen of heritage and traditional skills, social work in high-impact fields like education, health care, and anti-drugs, as well as innovation and start-up, are some of the other fields that are eligible for 'creditisation' alongside the Indian knowledge system.

However, the text emphasised that credits must be given in accordance with standards for exceptional achievements in addition to pre-established learning outcomes.

"The total credit points earned by a student will be the multiplication of total credits earned at a level of study or skilling and NCrF level assigned to that level of skilling and academic class. The framework also envisions taking into account cases wherein the student opts out of the education ecosystem and gains employment," it said.

"At any point in time, the overall credit points accumulated by a student shall be calculated as 'total credit points earned' multiplied by the 'weightage assigned to the relevant experience acquired by the student'. Credits accumulated by any student shall be stored through Academic Bank of Credit," it added.

As per the document, credits can only be transferred when they have been approved by the appropriate awarding bodies and there is mutual agreement between the body giving out credits and the body receiving them.

India's law enforcement agency, Enforcement Directorate, has registered a case against the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) India news broadcaster for alleged foreign exchange violations, as per reports citing sources.&nbsp;The case was filed under the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) two weeks ago. Authorities have been probing BBC India employees with so far six employees being interrogated. It even involves high-level employees of the organization including one of the BBC India directors.&nbsp;

Media outlets while quoting an officer reported, “Today, they have called another employee of BBC along with some documents and questioning is still going on."&nbsp;

This comes after India's Income Tax Department carried out tax surveys at BBC offices in Delhi and Mumbai in February. The IT department had reportedly "gathered several evidence" which indicate that "tax has not been paid on certain remittances" which have not been disclosed as income in India by the foreign entities of the group.&nbsp;

These developments also figured during a discussion between External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and UK Foreign Secretary James Cleverly in early march when Cleverly visited India to attend G20 Foreign Ministers' meeting.&nbsp;

Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) in a statement said that the income and profits disclosed by BBC group entities in India are "not commensurate" keeping in mind the scale of their operations.&nbsp;

The CBDT further added, "The survey operations also revealed that services of seconded employees have been utilised for which reimbursement has been made by the Indian entity to the foreign entity concerned."&nbsp;

The survey reportedly found several "discrepancies and inconsistencies" with regard to transfer pricing documentation. Such discrepancies relate to the level of relevant Function, Asset and Risk (FAR) analysis, incorrect use of comparables which are applicable to determine the correct Arms Length Price (ALP) and inadequate revenue apportionment, among others.&nbsp;

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has written a letter to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The said letter was handed over by&nbsp;Ukrainian Deputy Foreign Minister Emine Dzheppar during her meeting with the Minister of State for External Affairs Meenakshi Lekhi on Tuesday in New Delhi.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The Ministry of External Affairs confirmed the letter saying Ukraine requested additional humanitarian supplies including medicines and medical equipment as the war&nbsp;lingered on.&nbsp;

"Besides holding discussion on a wide range of bilateral and international issues of mutual interest, she handed over a letter from President Zelenskyy, addressed to Prime Minister Modi," read the statement by MEA.&nbsp;

“The Ukrainian Deputy FM also proposed that rebuilding infrastructure in Ukraine could be an opportunity for Indian companies,” the statement added.

Rusia is questioning the very existence of my country. In our history of 1,500 years, Ukraine never attacked any country," said&nbsp;Dzheppar.&nbsp;

India's highest-ranking military officer was speaking at the ‘Indian DefSpace Symposium 2023’, organised by the Indian Space Association and the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO).&nbsp;

Speaking on the occasion, Lt Gen AK Bhatt (Retd.), Director General, Indian Space Association, said, “the symposium will pave the way forward of how we leverage international space cooperation and also the policy and strategy for building an overall comprehensive defence space strategy."

At the event aimed at enhancing collaboration between India's Space and Defence sectors, Gen&nbsp;Chauhan emphasised on the need to develop dual-use(utilised for civilian and military purposes) platforms with special focus towards incorporating cutting-edge technology.

Touching upon what was expected from the Indian space sector, he said that India needed to focus on miniaturisation of satellites, reusable launch vehicles and similar cost-effective solutions. He also mentioned the need to safeguard India's space assets with counter-space capabilities(anti-satellite weapons).&nbsp;

India's NavIC series of navigation satellites presently provide coverage throughout the Indian landmass and up to 1500 kms further from India's frontiers. WION has learnt that the Indian Space agency ISRO is likely to launch the next-generation of NavIC satellite 'NVS-01' in May, on-board a GSLV rocket.

This will be the first of the series of NaVIC satellites with L1 frequency band and will offer greater security. While India does have more than 50 satellites orbiting the earth and performing various functions, most of them are large and expensive ones.

Developing low-cost and highly-efficient nano satellites that can be built and deployed rapidly are an area that requires attention, in India. While India operates four types of launch vehicles of varying sizes and payload capacities, all of them are expendable. India is working on reusable rocket technology.

Speaking at the event, Dr Samir V Kamat, Chairman, Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), mentioned how the premier defence lab has started increasing focus on space-based surveillance, space situational awareness, protecting space-based assets.

"We are now looking at working very closely with industry as well as academia right from the development stage and have started DRDO industry-academia Centers of excellence in about 15 institutions mostly within the country. We request academia, startups, MSMEs and larger companies to work with us closely so we can help our country achieve these capabilities much faster than what we have been able to do for all other systems,” he said.&nbsp;

In the latest incident, a serving Indian police officer was at the receiving end of something similar, after shopping on a popular e-commerce platform. With the aim of alerting fellow users, P Aravindhan, Zonal Director of Narcotics Control Bureau, Chennai Zone, shared his experience on social media.&nbsp;

According to the officer's social media post, he had recently placed an order on the Indian E-commerce website 'Nykaa' and the products had even been delivered. However, a short while after his order had been delivered on Monday 10th April, he received a call from someone claiming to be from Nykaa Customer care.&nbsp;

"Claiming to be a customer care executive from Nykaa, the caller told me that I could win an iPhone 12 or a Sony Bravia TV, if I place an order worth more than Rs.5000. The caller asked me to select all the products and add them to cart. Instead of making the payment directly on the E-com platform, the caller asked me to make the payment to their account" the officer told WION. They even had my exact name, mobile number, delivery address and said that the products and the gift would be delivered there.&nbsp;

Sensing that this was a malicious call, the officer didn't proceed further and make any payment. He highlighted the issue on social media and mentioned that he is facing this issue for the second time, suspecting that the data leak could have happened from Nykaa or the delivery partner 'Delhivery'. He also raised questions on how the scammers got access to his personal data that was shared with Nykaa and how the scammers managed to call him immediately after the order delivery is fulfilled.&nbsp;

He told WION that he had raised the issue further with Nykaa and provided them with the relevant details for probing the matter.&nbsp;

Russia's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Trade and Industry, Denis Manturov, is set to visit India next week for a key inter-governmental meeting aimed at enhancing trade ties between the two countries. Manturov will co-chair the 24th India-Russia Inter-governmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technological and Cultural Cooperation (IRIGC-TEC) during India visit starting 17th April.

The IRIGC-TEC is the primary mechanism at the government level for enhancing trade and economic cooperation between India and Russia. The commission was established by an Agreement on Inter-governmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technological Cooperation signed in May 1992, and the first session of IRIGC was held on 13 and 14 September 1994.

The visit by Manturov comes just a month after a virtual review meeting on trade issues between him and India's External Affairs Minister (EAM) Jaishankar. The two countries have held 23 IRIGC meetings so far. The 23rd session of the IRIGC was held on 14 September 2018 in Moscow.

India and Russia have been working to boost their trade ties, with India increasing its imports of Russian energy in recent months. The visit by Manturov is expected to further enhance the economic cooperation between the two countries that has grown leaps and bounds.&nbsp;

The visit by Manturov to India comes just days after the first visit by any top Ukrainian official to Delhi since the Russia-Ukraine conflict began last year.
