Israel’s construction sector has reportedly urged Benjamin Netanyahu’s government to let them hire 100,000 Indian workers to replace 90,000 Palestinians who have lost their work permits amidst the ongoing Israel-Hamas war.

Vice-president of Israel Builders' Association, Haim Feiglin told Voice of America (VOA) News that the Indian government has been informed in this regard and they are currently waiting for a decision from the Israeli government.

“We hope to engage some 50,000 to 100,000 workers from India to work across the sector and bring it to normalcy,” he said.

The construction sector has come to a standstill after Palestinians were not allowed to work in Israel following the brutal October 7 assault by Hamas terror group. The industry is currently operating at 15 per cent of its prewar capacity,

As a result of a shortage of workers, construction activity has slowed down in the country.

<h2>Israel revoked work permits of Palestinians&nbsp;</h2>

According to Feiglin, Palestinians account for 25 per cent of the workforce employed by the Israeli construction industry. Of which, around 10 per cent of the Palestinian workers are from Gaza, while the rest are from the West Bank.

According to Palestinian officials, more than 110,000 Palestinians held permits to work in Israel or Israeli settlements before Oct 7 attack. The majority of them were in the construction industry.

Notably, India has signed an agreement with Israel that will allow Indian workers to get hired in construction sector.

During Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohen's visit to India on May 9, the Framework Agreement on Facilitating Temporary Employment of Workers in Specific Labour Market Sectors in Israel was signed with India that will allow 42,000 Indians to work in Israel.

This was the first time that Israel’s construction sector opened up to Indians, who are primarily hired as caregivers. The agreement also includes nursing staff.

<h2>Bibi assures to wipe out Hamas</h2>

Meanwhile, Israeli troops have intensified attacks in Gaza in response to an all-front assault launched by the Palestine-based Hamas terror group.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Netanyahu said that he would make all efforts to end this war and added that&nbsp;Israel has mobilised 300,000 troops, the largest since the 1973 Yom Kippur War when Israel called up 400,000 reservists.

WION: People often talk of shared values between the two countries – and practically every Israeli family knows someone who’s spent time in India. What do you think it is that unites Israelis and Indians, apart from a love of Indian food?

Singla: It's a question which has fascinated a lot of people. When our External Affairs Minister (S Jaishankar) was here 3-4 months back, PM Bennet asked him the same.

For Israelis, India offers that rare space where there hasn't been any anti-semitism. They have not only contributed and thrived but there has been a shared empathy for the growth of Israel&nbsp;

WION: As well as shared values, unfortunately, the two countries also share similar challenges. I’m particularly thinking about counter-terrorism. What can India and Israel learn from each other in this respect?

Singla:&nbsp;The most important lesson is the ability to work together at an operational level. That flows when you share a common outlook of zero tolerance of terrorism.&nbsp;

During the 26/11 Mumbai attacks, some Israelis were targeted and that's something which we must never let happen again. It's a universal menace which both countries must fight together.

WION: India and Israel have signed a number of cooperation agreements. What more can we expect going forwards over the coming years?

Singla: Agreements are facilitators to nudge things forward. In short&nbsp;term, we are looking to conclude our FTA, hopefully by the mid of this year.

WION: The Quad - which India, Israel, the US and UAE launched during Minister Jaishankar’s visit to Israel in 2021 – has the potential to take innovation and trade to a new level globally. What’s being planned for the Quad over the coming year?

Singla: It is still early days for Quad. Immediate idea is to identify infra projects and then involve the private sector to execute them.

We are looking forward to an in-person Quad in the next few weeks, possibly in March in Dubai where more activities and specific goals would be discussed.

WION: Finally, what do you envisage for relations between India and Israel in 30 years’ time – what’s the long-term vision?

Indian PM Modi’s historic visit to Israel 4 years ago marked a turning point: Envoy Singla

Indian Army chief General MM Naravane recently concluded his first visit to Israel last week. According to the army, the trip aimed at “further strengthening strategic defence cooperation between both countries.”

The five-day visit included a tour of the Israel Defense Forces’ Ground Forces headquarters, and the northern border of the country. The Army chief received Israel’s guard of honour, visited Haifa’s memorial to Indian soldiers who fought in World War I, and visited the special operations unit where counter-terrorism was discussed.

He also met with Israel’s senior military and civilian leadership to discuss ways to further enhance defence relations between Israel and India.

The visit comes shortly after two other high-profile visits from India – that of External Affairs Minister&nbsp;S Jaishankar&nbsp;and defence secretary Ajay Kumar. India also participated in the recent Blue Flag international air drill.

According to a report by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute, India is one of Israel’s largest buyers of military hardware, and the two countries have signed an agreement to develop bilateral technology, like drones, artificial intelligence and quantum technology.

Jaishankar calls on Israeli Prez, PM; discusses bilateral relations

A small blast near the Israeli embassy in New Delhi on Friday evening was caused by a "very low intensity improvised device",&nbsp;police&nbsp;said, adding there were no injuries.

Israel, according to Reuters, is treating this small blast as a terrorist incident.

The Israeli foreign ministry also assured all its diplomats and embassy staff were "safe and sound".

"An explosion occurred a short while ago, close to the Israeli Embassy in New Delhi. There are no casualties and no harm was done to the building. All Israeli diplomats and embassy staff are safe and sound," a foreign ministry release said.

"The event is being investigated by the Indian authorities who are in contact with Israeli officials," it said, adding that the foreign minister is frequently being updated on the situation and has directed to take all necessary precautions.

"We will report further developments as they occur," the release said.

Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has assured his Israeli counterpart of fullest protection for the diplomats and mission.

"The matter is under investigation. No effort will be spared to find the culprits," he said.

The low intensity explosion occurred while the Beating Retreat ceremony was underway at Rajpath&nbsp;just about 2 kilometres&nbsp;away.&nbsp;The district around the embassy was sealed off after the explosion and police and bomb disposal experts took over the scene.

A police statement described it as a "very low intensity improvised device" that blew out the windows on three nearby cars. "Initial impressions suggest a mischievous attempt to create a sensation," the statement added.

Delhi Police said that the explosion took place at a pavement,&nbsp;and caused damage to the windscreen of four to five cars.

Fire brigade, SWAT and forensic teams rushed to the spot soon after the incident that took place at around 5 pm.

"Multiple police teams have been rushed to the spot. It is yet to be ascertained the kind of material that exploded,"&nbsp;a senior police officer told IANS.

As per fire department information, they received the call at 5.11 pm. "The mirrors of two to three cars are broken. Three fire tenders were rushed to the spot," another official told PTI.

The embassy is on APJ Abdul Kalam Road.

An alert has been issued at all airports, important installations and government buildings in view of blast. Enhanced security measures have been put in place.

According to sources, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has also been briefed by director, IB &nbsp;and CP, Delhi.

The Indian capital is also on a security alert because of farmers' protests against government agriculture reforms that deteriorated into serious unrest this week.

Jewish outreach movement Chabad has unveiled a plaque at its synagogue in Israel's southern coastal city of Eilat in the memory of six Jews killed in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks.

Rav Hecht and First Secretary at the Embassy of India in Israel Rohit Mishra unveiled the plaque mounted on a wall inside the synagogue, demanding that the perpetrators of the carnage be brought to justice.

Engraved on a hard plastic plate, the message was personally drafted by Rav Hecht.

The Mumbai Chabad House at Nariman Point was one of the targets of the attacks. Ten terrorists of Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba carried out 12 coordinated shooting and bombing attacks lasting four days across Mumbai.

"To the memory and rise of souls of Rabbi Gavriel Noah and Rivka Holtsberg, who were martyred during the time of their holy mission in a terror attack at Chabad House in Mumbai, India, from which the message of Torah was being spread all over the area. And for the four guests who stayed in Chabad House at the time of the attack, and were also martyred: Rabi Gavriel Taitelbaum, Mrs. Norma Rabinovich, Rabi Ben Zion Kurman, Mrs, Yocheved Orpaz. May their souls be bound up in the bond of eternal life," read the 3A paper size plaque that was unveiled on Thursday.

At least 166 people were killed and over 300 others were injured in the attacks which began on November 26, 2008.

The Chabad Movement and Jews of Indian origin in Eilat have also requested Mayor Meir Itzhak Ha Levi to set up a 26/11 memorial square in the city on the lines of the one dedicated to the victims of the 9/11 attack.

The mayor has reacted favourably to the proposal, extending all help and support, representatives of the Sitar Organisation for Indian Immigrants in Eilat said.

The Sitar Organisation also put up a plaque in the memory of the six Jewish victims of 26/11 at its club on Thursday. The plaque was unveiled at a sombre ceremony which was also attended by Deputy Mayor of Eilat Stas Dinkin.

Ceremonies to pay respects to the victims of the 26/11 attacks were also held in the southern Israeli city of Beersheva on Thursday. Indians and Israelis lit candles in the memory of the innocent victims.

At a separate ceremony held at Beersheva Cricket Club that was mostly attended by Jews of Indian origin and Rabbi Meir Simcha of the Chabad Movement, the attendees condemned Pakistan and called for India and Israel to stand together in the fight against terror.

The Indian Heritage Jewish Centre headed by Avner Isaac also organised a Zoom meeting on Thursday evening to commemorate the 12th anniversary of the attacks. Hundreds of people from all over the world took part in the virtual event.

Memorial plaque for Jewish victims of 26/11 Mumbai attacks unveiled at Israel synagogue

India, Israel and the United States have begun collaboration in developmental area, and in next generation of emerging technologies, including a transparent, open, reliable and secure 5G communication network, a top official has said.

The branching out of this trilateral initiative in development and technological arena is a result of the people-to-people collaboration, in particular those by Indian diaspora in the US and Israel, that was initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his historic visit to Israel three years ago in July 2017, community leaders said.

A collaboration in 5G is a just tip of the iceberg and a first step, according to US Agency for International Development (USAID) Deputy Administrator Bonnie Glick.

"Because we'll collaborate in science and research and development in coming up with the next generations of technologies, things that the likes of you and the rest of us on the phone can't even imagine what they might be. But by partnering by officially, affirming the importance of this relationship, we'll advance it," Glick told PTI in an interview after the US-India-Israel forum featuring discussions on strategic, tech and development/water cooperation held last week.

"We are thrilled to work with these partners to solve the world's development challenges," she said in her keynote address to the virtual US-India-Israel summit that focused on trilateral partnerships in the strategic, technology and development arenas.

The summit was also addressed by Israeli Ambassador to India Ron Malka and his counterpart Sanjeev Singla. 
"One area we've been cooperating on is digital leadership and innovation, particularly in next generation 5G technology," Glick said.

"In July, I chaired a roundtable discussion with several like-minded donors on 5G and digital development. To me, it was extremely important that India and Israel be part of that conversation. And the discussion was richer because of their contributions," she said.

Silicon Valley, Bangaluru and Tel Aviv have all earned reputations as leading, innovative technology hubs, and rightfully so, according to Glick.

"So it's only right that our three nations play a key role in delivering the promise of 5G in a way that is open, interoperable, reliable, and secure," she stressed. "We cannot allow any nation to dominate this technology or use it to dominate other nations."

When Israel, the US and India collaborate in defence, much of that collaboration and discussion is done in closed rooms, because the topics are highly sensitive, the official said.

"When we're talking about development cooperation, we're talking about transparent and open activities that can make all three countries extremely proud about the way that they impact the lives of people all over the world," Glick said.

Javier Piedra, deputy assistant administrator of the Bureau for Asia at USAID, said that in the case of India and Israel, they had a "peer-to-peer relationship", always looking to see how they might advance their respective activities cooperatively so that they might leverage common goals, resources, and comparative advantages in pursuit of self-reliance globally.

"Moreover, we continue to set the stage to further international development trilaterally, wherever possible," he said. 
"Our partnerships with Israel and India, given our peer-to-peer relationship, exemplifies the importance of working together on issues related to water, water management and security," Piedra said.

M R Rangaswami from Indiaspora, who presented the tech-triangle (Silicon Valley-Tel Aviv and Bangalore) concept to Modi in Israel in 2017, said the beauty of this model was because technology was a commonality in the three things, all kinds of "incredible things" had come out of it.

Dr Bharat Barai, an Indian-American from Chicago, said the people-to-people relationship, business, science and technology among the three countries would not only strengthen the ties, but also help in developmental activities in the third-world countries.

Nissim Reuben, assistant director, Asia Pacific Institute (API) at the American Jewish Committee, said a strong, prosperous, vibrant and resilient Indian economy was a top priority for many countries, especially the US and Israel. 
To achieve that goal, India needs to continuously update its agro, water &amp; wastewater management techniques, an area where Mashav Development Agency of Israel could play a key role with support of the USAID.

AJC, Indiaspora, GIJRI &amp; the American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (AAPI) will jointly advocate for this expansion of this US-Israel-India developmental partnership, he said.

"We hope to be able to advocate the setting up of US-Israeli joint centres of excellence in health in India similar to the 29 centres of agro-tech excellence set up by Mashav in India.

"Skill development, innovation and entrepreneurship, water and renewable energy cooperation will be other areas of trilateral cooperation advocacy by our four organisations in the US," Reuben said.

He said the 2000-year old Jewish community in India represented a thriving link to this past and that the people were the &quot;biggest strength and the biggest beneficiaries&quot; of the strong Indo-Israel partnership.

Though it had recognised Israel in 1950, India established full diplomatic relations with the country in 1992.&nbsp;
