The Supreme Court ordered the Centre on Tuesday to meet with stakeholders and top I&B Ministry officials to discuss objections raised by the advertising industry. It also suggested that the Ministry of Consumer Affairs should be included as a party in the case. The court in November had threatened to impose a fine of INR 1 crore ($120,000) per false claim on the company. The bench of Justices Hima Kohli and Ahsanuddin Amanullah also said that Patanjali has been taking the country for a ride.

“You ( Patanjali Ayurved) had the courage to come up with this advertisement after the order of this court! Permanent relief... what do you mean by permanent relief? Is it a cure? You can't say your medicines/drugs cure a particular disease,” the court observed.

“How can Patanjali claim to completely cure blood pressure, diabetes, arthritis, asthma and obesity,” the court asked.

The bench was hearing the case filed by the Indian Medical Association against an alleged smear campaign by Baba Ramdev against COVID-19 vaccines and modern medicine (allopathy).

Representing IMA, senior Advocate PS Patwalia raised concerns about misleading claims made in ads and a press conference held by Ramdev regarding remedies for blood pressure that referred to 'lies spread by allopathy'.

"He held a press conference the very next day after last order," Patwalia claimed while hearing.

The IMA has also urged the Union Home Minister, Amit Shah, to bring in stricter laws against healthcare violence.

"There are many incidents of healthcare violence taking place across the country. Doctors and healthcare staff is finding it difficult to work under the stress of violence. Healthcare violence has become an alarming phenomenon across the country. The real size of the problem is largely unknown and recent information shows that the current knowledge is the tip of the iceberg," the letter read.

"India needs a comprehensive, uniform and effective law against the healthcare violence. We request you to kindly approve an effective and strong act against the healthcare violence," it added.

"At present, we are vaccinating the population above 45 years. Given the rapid spread of the second wave of the disease, we suggest that our vaccination strategy needs to be geared up with immediate effect on war foot. We request the following suggestions in the Covid Vaccination Drive. All citizens above 18 years of age shall be permitted to receive Covid vaccination," IMA said.

The association also urged the Prime Minister that private sector family clinics should also be included actively in the vaccination drive along with private hospitals, as availability of vaccination with all doctors and family physicians will have a positive impact on the drive.

According to IMA, the vaccination certificate should be made mandatory for entering into public places and receiving products under the public distribution system.IMA said as there is an acute spurt of this disease, as a measure to immediately break the chain, a limited period of continuous lockdown should also be implemented especially for all the non-essential areas like cinema, cultural and religious events, sports, among others.

"Zero tolerance against the non-compliance of Covid appropriate behaviours, augmentation of infrastructure beds and oxygen availability, moral support and enthusiastic engagements of frontline health workers ensuring adequate health care protective gears support and strict adherence to the evidence-based treatment protocols are the key factors needed at this moment," IMA`s letter added.

Owner and founder of IMA, Mohammed&nbsp;Mansoor Khan has travelled from Dubai to New Delhi after a Special Investigation Team (SIT) persuaded him to come to India and submit before the law, said SIT Chief Ravikanthe Gowda.

"A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has located IMA founder-owner Mohd. Mansoor Khan in Dubai and persuaded him to come back to India and submit before the law. Accordingly, he has travelled from Dubai to New Delhi by Air India flight. He landed at Delhi and SIT officers are in Delhi to secure and arrest him," said Gowda.

"As Lookout circular (LOC) was issued against him by both Special Investigation Team (SIT) and Enforcement Directorate (ED), he will be handed over according to the procedures," said the official.

An 11-member SIT headed by DIG B R Ravikanthe Gowda was formed by the Karnataka government to probe the alleged fraud by the firm.

Khan blamed some people including former Union Minister and senior Congress leader K Rahman Khan, J D (S) MLC Sharavana, one terrorist and several people related to different business entities for his company`s downfall.

"I would like to congratulate ex-Rajya Sabha member K Rahman Khan, Mukhtyar Ahmed Tada who belongs to a terrorist group, JDS MLA Sarvanand and all those who make settlements in the name of social service," he said.

Khan said, "My aides within the management and some politicians deceived me. This forced me to leave the country in a hurry. Nothing was planned."

However, police had said Khan fled the country. Earlier he had alleged that suspended Congress MLA Roshan Baig did not return Rs 400 crore to him, a charge which was refuted by Baig.

"I have a list of who extorted and harassed me," he said, adding that he would disclose these details when he is produced before the department and judiciary.

He also expressed his fear over safety and claimed that he would be "ultimately killed."

"I suspected some of my directors and my brothers. I have confirmed reports that my director Nizamuddin and cousin Wasim, Khalid Ahmed and Fahad Ahmed have stolen the jewellery from the vault," he stated.

The businessman also urged the authorities to make all those accountable whom he has accused of conspiring the company's downfall.

Listing the six conditions, the agitators said the chief minister will have to visit the injured doctors at the hospital and her office should release a statement condemning the attack on them, news agency PTI reported.

"We also want the immediate intervention of the chief minister. Documentary evidence of judicial enquiry against the inactivity of the police to provide protection to the doctors at the Nil Ratan Sircar Medical College and Hospital on Monday night should also be provided," he said.

"We demand documentary evidence and details of action taken against those who had attacked us," Dutta said.

They also demanded unconditional withdrawal of all "false cases and charges" which were imposed on junior doctors and medical students across West Bengal in the wake of their strike.

They also stressed on their demand for improvement of infrastructure in all health facilities as well as posting of armed police personnel there.

This comes when the state-wide unrest spilt over to other states, taking shape of a <a href="https://www.wionews.com/india-news/telangana-doctors-join-nationwide-protest-demand-justice-implementation-of-protection-act-227109">nationwide protest by the medical fraternity</a>.&nbsp;

Talking about West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's ultimatum to the doctors to stop the protest, the doctor added, "This is not a political issue. It is not about politics but about the safety of the doctors. Sitting on such a position she is not supposed to give such statements."

Outpatient department services at private hospitals were affected across the country&nbsp;after the Indian Medical Association called a 12-hour strike on Tuesday against the National Medical Commission bill.

The bill, which is expected to come up for discussion in the Rajya Sabha today, enables the government to replace the Medical Council of India (MCI).

The IMA, which has nearly 300,000 members, dubbed the bill as anti-people and anti-patient.&nbsp;

The association warned that the bill would cripple the functioning of medical professionals by making them completely answerable to the bureaucracy and non-medical administrators.

The health ministry had issued an advisory to medical institutions to ensure that all steps were taken to provide emergency services to the masses.

Although emergency services at government hospitals were not affected, doctors wore black bands as a mark of protest.

In Tamil Nadu, government doctors also boycotted OPD services in protest.&nbsp;
