Speaking to WION, Rajani said: "Being a half Indian, and travelling a lot to India, being allowed to experience the culture of India...being able to regularly interact with my family in Mumbai, it has given myself and my family something which we, which I treasure and appreciate very much because it has given me the opportunity to learn 2 cultures, not only the culture of my own country, the Faroe Islands but also the culture of India, which is so different in many ways."

Rajani's father, Gordhan Rajani, migrated from Sindh's Shikarpur to Mumbai after the partition of India, enduring the hardships of displacement.&nbsp;

"He had to leave with his family everything and they had to travel with the vessel from Karachi as refugees," Rajani pointed out.&nbsp;

Forced to navigate the challenges of being refugees, the Rajani family stayed in a refugee camp for two years. Despite the adversities, they secured an education, with Gordhan ultimately earning his medical degree in Mumbai. He later travelled to the United Kingdom and then to the Faroe Islands.

"In 1964 he came to the Faroe Islands as a medical doctor. And of course, in the small island group, with not very many medical doctors, he was a very good doctor," Rajani explained.&nbsp;

"The Committee has taken the decision not to include Venice on the list of World Heritage in Danger," a UNESCO source told AFP.&nbsp;

Italy's Culture Minister Gennaro Sangiuliano said it was "a great victory for Italy and for common sense".&nbsp;

Venice is in danger from rising water levels, attributed to climate change, and excessive numbers of tourists, Lazare Eloundou Assomo, UNESCO's Director of World Heritage, told AFP ahead of the Riyadh meeting.&nbsp;

Italian counter-measures had been deemed "insufficient", he said.&nbsp;

And Thursday the committee "reiterated its concerns about the major challenges still to be met for the proper conservation of the site", citing mass tourism, development projects and climate change.&nbsp;

"Further progress needs to be made," it said, and the city's state of conservation would be examined again "in the summer of 2024".&nbsp;

"The protection of this World Heritage property must remain a priority for the entire international community," it added.&nbsp;

The "in danger" qualification is the first step towards exclusion from the list that features 1,157 sites, of which 900 are cultural, 218 natural and 39 mixed.&nbsp;

One diplomat told AFP the committee's decision not to downgrade the city now took into account progress "in recent days", in particular an incoming "visitor flow management system".&nbsp;

Critics, however, say the scheme will do little to stem the hordes of tourists who descend each year on Venice.&nbsp;

Authorities have debated for years -- without taking concrete action -- over how best to regulate the millions of visitors to the famous watery city.&nbsp;

They flock there to see sights including St Mark's Square, the Rialto Bridge and picturesque canals.&nbsp;

Two years ago, the city imposed a ban on massive cruise ships, from which thousands of day-trippers emerge, re-routing them to a more distant industrial port.&nbsp;

The aim was also to reduce damage from the large waves caused by ships, which  erode Venice's foundations and harm the lagoon's fragile ecosystem.&nbsp;

But the tourists still come, with 3.2 million staying overnight in Venice's historic centre last year, according to official data.&nbsp;

Jerelle Jules (30) from Hammersmith in west London had applied for&nbsp;the job of dining reservation supervisor at The Ritz. He cleared the initial rounds and reached the final one. As reported by The Guardian, it was then that he was sent the company's grooming policy.

The policy was reportedly made in 2021 and said that “unusual hairstyles” such as “spiky hair, Afro style” were not allowed.

An Afro hairstyle is often associated with people of colour who have African heritage.&nbsp;

Jules said that he declined to appear for the final interview as it was the first time he was officially told that an Afro hairstyle was not acceptable.

“I want to make sure that things like this don’t happen again,” he said, as quoted by The Guardian “It’s about inclusivity and black professionalism.”

“The word Afro&nbsp;itself is obviously indicative of Africans and after reading that I don’t feel comfortable going to the interview," he told Metro.

The Ritz apologised to Jules. Guardian said that in a statement, Ritz claimed that Jules was sent an out-of-date policy and had offered “unreserved apology for this error”

However, Jules felt that the apology was “disingenuous and lacklustre”.

“The policy was updated in June 2021, so this is not something that was written 10 or 20 years ago. It’s a recent policy that shows a lack of awareness about being inclusive to people of colour,” he told The Guardian.

“The Ritz London does not condone discrimination of any form and we are genuinely committed to fostering an inclusive and non-discriminatory environment for all of our colleagues and guests,” said spokesperson of the Ritz as quoted in various media reports.

The monument was designated as protected in 1920, and as a result, this request for a tax from the municipal corporation is generating a discussion.

What do the bills say?

The invoices relate to the fiscal years 2021–2022 and 2022–2023. According to the notification given to the ASI, the unpaid property tax as of 31 March, 2022, was Rs 88,784, plus Rs 47,983 in interest. For the fiscal year 2022–2023, a property tax of Rs 11,098 has been added, bringing the total to Rs 14,7826, which must be paid within 15 days. ASI has been instructed to pay any outstanding debts within the next 15 days; else, the Taj Mahal would be "attached" if the tax is not paid on time. The notice also contains interest for prior tax obligations that were unpaid.&nbsp;

How has the ASI responded to it?

While speaking to media outlets, ASI superintending archaeologist Raj Kumar Patel said, "property tax is not applicable on monuments. We are also not liable to pay taxes for water as there is no commercial use of it. Water is used to maintain greenery within the premises. Notices related to water and property tax for Taj Mahal have been received for the first time. It could have been sent by mistake."

He also added that if the AMC wants house tax on the Taj Mahal, it should raise the demand to the central government. R K Patel is now reportedly consulting ASI directorate for guidance over the issue.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, Agra Tourist Welfare Chamber secretary Vishal Sharma has also made a comment over water and house tax issue on Taj Mahal. Given that the Taj Mahal is a central government property and a World Heritage Site, he claimed that the tax recovery notification is incomprehensible. According to Sharma, the mayor of Agra needs to explain why the Taj Mahal was used as the subject of this notification.

Making a remark over the issue, Municipal commissioner Nikhil T Funde said, "I am not aware about the tax-related proceedings related to the Taj Mahal. Fresh notices are being issued based on the statewide geographic information system (GIS) survey conducted for calculation of taxes. All premises, including government buildings and religious sites, have been issued notices based on dues pending on them. Rebate is provided following due process of law. In the case of notices issued to ASI, required action will be taken on the basis of response received from them."

Assistant municipal commissioner and in-charge of the Tajganj zone, Sarita Singh, said the matter related to notices issued for water and property tax on the Taj Mahal is being investigated. "A private company has been tasked to realise tax on the basis of a GIS survey," she added.&nbsp;

Historians worry that the Hun diadem may have disappeared forever from the Ukrainian museum where it had formerly been on display. After seizing the Ukrainian city of Melitopol in February, Russian troops reportedly carried off the valuable crown along with a trove of other treasures, according to museum officials.

According to Ukrainian authorities, the eight-month-old Russian invasion of Ukraine has been followed by widespread destruction and looting of historical monuments and artefacts.

The cultural minister of Ukraine claimed that Russian military took antiques from approximately 40 Ukrainian museums. According to the minister, Oleksandr Tkachenko, the looting and destruction of cultural sites resulted in damages that are believed to be in the hundreds of millions of euros (dollars).

Ukraine considers borshch -- a thick nourishing soup usually made with beetroot -- as a national dish although it is also widely consumed in Russia, other ex-Soviet countries and Poland. Kyiv hailed the move, with Ukraine's Culture Minister Oleksandr Tkachenko saying on Telegram that "victory in the borshch war is ours... will win both in the war of borshch and in this war."

Adding the soup culture to the UNESCO list aims at mobilising attention to ensure it is preserved despite risks to its existence. The committee noted that the war had "threatened the viability" of the soup culture in Ukraine.

"The displacement of people (poses a threat)... as people are unable not only to cook or grow local vegetables for borshch but also to come together... which undermines the social and cultural well-being of communities," said UNESCO.

"Ukrainian borshch -- the national version of borscht consumed in several countries of the region -- is an integral part of Ukrainian family and community life."

Arya has called upon the Canadian government to "recognise the contributions that Hindu-Canadians have made to the socio-economic development of Canada, and their services to the Canadian society, the richness of Hindu Heritage and its vast contribution to the world of arts and science, astronomy to medicine, and its culture and traditions and the importance of educating and reflecting upon it for our future generations in Canada by declaring November, every year, Hindu Heritage Month.”

Canada has several month dedicated to religious heritage. The month of May is observed as Canadian Jewish Month. Month of October is observed as Canadian Islamic Historic Month. April is celebrated as Sikh Heritage Month.

According to MP Chandra Arya, members of the Hindu community started coming to Canada 100 years ago. Today, their population is about 600,000. The community has people who migrated from India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Southeast Asia and even Africa.

“Hindu-Canadians have made and continue to make significant contribution to Canada’s socio-economic, political, and cultural heritage as doctors, scientists, engineers, lawyers, business leaders, artists, academics, government officials, elected officials, etc. From building institutions to being philanthropists, Hindu-Canadians have excelled in all services and sectors and in all walks of life,” said Chandra Arya in his speech in Canadian parliament.
