<p>Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was the first foreign leader to call PM Modi and congratulate him.</p>

<p>According to the Ministry of External Affairs readout, during the conversation, "Both leaders noted the advances made in the bilateral relationship in the last five years"</p>

<p>The Japanese foreign ministry readout said PM Abe stated that "He would like to closely work with Prime Minister Modi hand in hand toward strengthening Japan-India relations and realising a free and open Indo-Pacific"</p>

<p>PM Modi will be in Japan in the last week of June for the G20 Osaka Summit while Japanese PM will come to India later this year for the next India-Japan Annual Summit.</p>

<p><strong>France</strong></p>

<p>French President Emmanuel Macron also made a congratulatory phone call to PM Modi wherein Prime Minister Modi thanked France for its steadfast support to India on critical issues, MEA stated. President Macron described "PM Modi as one of the foremost leaders of the democratic world", the government readout added.&nbsp;</p>

<p>PM Modi will visit France in August 2019 for a bilateral meeting and will also attend the G7 Summit at Biarritz.</p>

<p>China was quick to congratulate PM Modi with Chinese President Xi Jinping writing a letter to him. While congratulating PM Modi for re-election, Jinping said, "China-India relations have shown strong momentum of development under the joint efforts of both sides".&nbsp;</p>

<p>Top Sensex gainers included Yes Bank, IndusInd Bank, L&amp;T, SBI, ICICI Bank, Kotak Bank, RIL and HDFC twins, surging up to 8 per cent.</p>

<p>While, Vedanta, ITC and TCS slipped up to 0.45 per cent.</p>

<p>According to traders, investor sentiment was boosted by initial trends that suggested a second term for the Narendra Modi-led NDA.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, foreign institutional investors sold equity worth Rs 965.02 crore on Wednesday, while domestic institutional investors sold shares to the tune of Rs 157.75 crore, provisional data available with stock exchanges showed.</p>

<p>Elsewhere in Asia, bourses in China, Japan and Korea were trading on a negative note in their respective early sessions.</p>

<p>The counting exercise is on in over 4,000 counting centres. Most of the exit polls have predicted that the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is on course to retain power for a second term.</p>

<p>The rupee opened strong at 69.45 at the interbank forex market, then gained further ground and touched 69.40, displaying gains of 26 paise over its last close.</p>

<p>The rupee had settled at 69.66 against the US dollar Wednesday.</p>

<p>Forex traders said, besides the Loka Sabha election outcome, easing crude prices and higher opening in domestic equities also supported the rupee.</p>

<p>Foreign fund outflows, however, dampened the sentiment of forex traders.</p>

<p>Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) were net sellers in the capital markets, pulling out Rs 965.02 crore Wednesday, according to provisional exchange data.</p>

<p>Brent crude futures, the global oil benchmark, eased 0.58 per cent to $70.58 per barrel.</p>

<p>Domestic bourses opened on a bullish note Thursday with both benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty hitting all-time highs.</p>

<p>The 30-share Sensex was trading at 39,722.15 points, up 611.94 points while Nifty was trading higher by 226.80 points at 11,964.70.</p>

<p>At Begusarai, Giriraj Singh of BJP is ahead of Kanhaiya Kumar, CPI by a huge margin of 1,99,350 votes. At Buxar, Ashwini Kumar Choubey of BJP is ahead of RJD's Jagadanand Singh by 41,144 votes.</p>

<p>At Munger Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lalan Singh of JDU is ahead of Neelam Devi of the Congress party by 48,666 votes.</p>

<p>At Purvi Champaran, Union Minister Radha Mohan Singh of BJP is ahead of Akash Kumar Singh of the Rashtriya Lok Samta Party by 97,814 votes.</p>

<p>At Saran, Rajiv Pratap Rudy of BJP is leading Chandrika Roy of Rashtriya Janata Dal by 76,153 votes.</p>

<p>The opposition parties that contested the polls together were RJD, Congress, Upendra Kushwaha's Rashtriya Lok Samta Party (RLSP), Jitan Ram Manjhi's Hindustan Awam Morcha (HAM), Mukesh Sahni's Vikasshil Insan Party (VIP), and Sharad Yadav's Loktantrik Janata Dal (LJD).</p>

<p>In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, the NDA had won 31 seats in Bihar. The seven-phased Lok Sabha elections were held from April 11 to May 19.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Prime Minister Narendra Modi led-BJP appeared set for a resounding comeback on Thursday with leads over 300 seats while the Congress trailed far behind with 90, as the counting of the votes polled in India's 17 Lok Sabha election was underway.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.wionews.com/india-general-elections-2019/lok-sabha-election-result-2019-bjp-leaders-react-to-landslide-win-of-pm-narendra-modi-220885">Senior leader and Home Minister Rajnath Singh</a> termed the early trends "historic" and credited it to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's "astute" leadership and party chief Amit Shah's "dynamism".</p>

<p>In a series of tweets, Singh said the people of India have once again given a decisive mandate to the BJP-led NDA and reposed their faith in Modi's leadership and vision of New India.</p>

<p>In Rajasthan, three candidates come from erstwhile royal families. The Bharatiya Janata Party's Diya Kumari of the erstwhile Jaipur royal family is leading by around 5.4 lakh votes against the Congress' Devkinandan in Rajsamand.</p>

<p>BJP candidate and sitting MP Dushyant Singh, the son of former chief minister Vasundhara Raje and scion of the erstwhile Dholpur royal family, is leading by over 4.5 lakh votes against the Congress' Pramod Sharma in Jhalawar-Baran constituency.</p>

<p>However, the Congress' Bhanwar Jitendra Singh of the erstwhile Alwar royal family was trailing by around 3.2 lakh votes against the BJP's Balak Nath in the Alwar constituency.</p>

<p>In Madhya Pradesh, where Jyotiraditya Scindia of the erstwhile princely state of Gwalior is contesting from Guna, the Congress leader is trailing by over 1 lakh votes against the BJP's Krishna Pal Singh.</p>

<p>In Uttar Pradesh, three candidates from erstwhile royal families are contesting from Pratapgarh, Kushi Nagar and Gonda.</p>

<p>Vikramaditya Singh, the Congress' candidate from Udhampur constituency of Jammu and Kashmir, was trailing by over 3.3 lakh votes against Union minister and BJP leader Jitendra Singh.</p>

<p>NCP leader Sharad Pawar reacted saying that the results show people's doubt about EVMs.</p>

<p>"I accept people's decision but this is also a fact that people had their doubts about EVMs. Congress had performed really well in Rajiv Gandhi's time, but nobody doubted elections then, same when Atal Bihari Vajpayee won", he said.</p>

<p>National Conference (NC) leader Omar Abdullah congratulated BJP and NDA for their "stellar performance".</p>

<p>National Conference president Farooq Abdullah, expressed hope that the new government at the Centre would do justice with the state and engage in a dialogue with Pakistan to resolve the Kashmir issue.</p>

<p>Speaking to reporters at the NC headquarters, Farooq Abdullah said, "I thank (NC vice-president) Omar (Abdullah), our party leaders and the people of Kashmir, especially the people of Srinagar constituency - all the mothers, sisters, elders and youth for supporting the NC".</p>

<p>"This Parliament will not be easy. There are several important issues with respect to J-K because we have to fight them on their intention to do away with the Article 370 and 35A. Another issue is that they want to divide the Muslims and Hindus in the country; we have to fight that as well," the NC chief said.</p>

<p>"This country belongs to all and we have to keep this country strongly on that secular path which our Constitution enshrines. We have to protect the Constitution, drafted by (B R) Ambedkar, and take the country forward," he said.</p>

<p>"We hope the new government in Delhi will do justice with J-K and engage in dialogue with Pakistan so that we are taken out of this morass," he said.<br />
Asked about the UPA's performance in the polls, he declined to comment, saying "what has happened, has happened, I will not say anything on that".&nbsp;</p>
