The highly anticipated Cybercab 'Robotaxi', created by Tesla CEO Elon Musk, recently made its appearance on stage at a high profile event at Warner Bros Studios near Los Angeles. Priced below USD 30,000, the futuristic vehicle due in 2026 has no steering or pedals and features gull-wing doors. Musk also revealed the 'Robovan,' a larger autonomous vehicle that can transport up to 20 passengers, however, he offered very little explanation on when it would be available or what are its specifications.

Tesla's latest reveal shows the firm is turning away from cheap, mass cars toward autonomous vehicles.
But Musk did not lay out a clear timetable for ramping up Robotaxi production, as setbacks have thus far slowed other companies working to find a way in the increasingly crowded autonomous driving field to commercialisation, such as Alphabet's Waymo. "I think the market wanted more definitive timelines," said equity trader Dennis Dick from Triple D Trading, adding that he was disappointed.

Musk bows to Brazil’s Supreme Court! X set to return after months-long showdown over hate speech

Brazil's Supreme Court ordered reinstating X after Elon Musk agreed to its conditions, including deleting some user accounts and appointing a local legal representative for the platform.

The company has met “all the requirements necessary for the immediate return of activities” in Brazil, as Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes wrote in an order issued on Tuesday. “I decree the end of the suspension.”

The settlement ended a months-long standoff between the billionaire owner and Moraes, which peaked with the judge suspending the social network formerly known as Twitter at the end of August after Musk defied Brazilian laws.

It is a big concession from the world's richest person, who had billed his fight with Moraes as a free speech battle against the South American country in its attempts to regulate content on the internet.

Musk shut down X’s office in Brazil to protest against orders to remove certain profiles that allegedly posed a danger to its democracy. The country's top court then briefly suspended the platform for failing to comply with local regulations calling for it to have a local representative, blocking the platform that had more than 22 million users in the country.

In the following weeks, Moraes fined another of Musk's companies, the satellite internet provider Starlink, and threatened to add more fines if they didn't comply with the directives from the court.

But in a move that shocked both enemies and fans, Musk retreated to their demands. For months, he publicly attacked Moraes; later, X hired lawyers to represent the company in Brazil.

The about-face followed threats of a 5 million reais ($903,000) per day penalty on X if it circumvented the suspension, which happened following a software update that briefly let it bypass the restrictions. To be accessible after the suspension order, the company paid 10.3 million reais. Earlier in September, Brazil withdrew 18.35 million reais from local bank accounts of X and Starlink to cover fines imposed by the Supreme Court.

The dispute between an avowed free speech champion and a powerful judge drew attention from internet users within and outside Brazil, leading many to wonder if Moraes had gone too far in his bid to police the internet.

In a provocative statement ahead of the 2024 US elections, Tesla CEO Elon Musk addressed rumors and online chatter about potential threats against Vice President Kamala Harris. Musk labeled the idea of assassinating Harris as "useless," stressing that such actions would not achieve any meaningful political change. His comments, made during a discussion on political leadership and the future of America, have sparked controversy and debates about the role of high-profile figures commenting on sensitive political issues. Musk has become increasingly vocal on various political matters as the election season heats up, drawing attention for his often unfiltered remarks.

Brazil’s Supreme Court has given social media platform X the green light to resume operations in the country, following compliance with court rulings that owner Elon Musk had previously resisted.

Brazil Lifts Ban on X, Allowing Social Media Platform To Resume Operations

Brazil has lifted its ban on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) after the company complied with legal requirements and paid a fine of $5 million. The ban was imposed due to the platform's failure to comply with Brazilian regulations, particularly concerning the spread of misinformation and harmful content. Following intense negotiations, X agreed to address the legal concerns, including implementing stronger content moderation policies and complying with local laws on data protection and online conduct. The payment of the fine and these adjustments enabled the platform to resume operations in Brazil.

In an exclusive interview with former Fox News host Tucker Carlson, billionaire Tesla and X owner Elon Musk on Monday (Oct 7) said that he would be thrown behind prison if former President Donald Trump loses to Vice President Kamala Harris in the presidential elections next month. "If he loses, I’m f—ed,” said Musk, as he spoke about the Republican nominee. The interview was broadcast on social media platform X. “How long do you think my prison sentence is going to be? Will I see my children? I don’t know," said Musk. Musk was days back seen jumping in the air and endorsing Trump as the latter climbed the stage to address the rally in Pennsylvania, which was exactly the same place where he had survived the July 13 assassination attempt. The 53-year-old is also known to have spent millions in a super PAC which backed the candidacy of Trump while constantly attacking Harris on X. Elon Musk's X seeks resumption in Brazil after paying pending fines

Elon Musk has sounded the alarm on America's rising national debt. At a recent All-In summit hosted by the 'All-In Podcast,' the billionaire, who recently became the first person to boast 200 million followers on his social media platform X, warned, "America is going bankrupt extremely quickly, and everyone seems to be sort of whistling past the graveyard on this one."

Musk has been vocal about America's economic challenges. The concerns centre around the nation's rising national debt and interest payments. Musk shared a headline in July that read, "Interest payments on US national debt will shatter trillions this year, eating 76 per cent of all income taxes collected." Musk added, "America is going bankrupt btw."

According to Musk, the trillion dollars added to debt will pass through generations, forcing the kids and grandkids to pay the debt owed by the current government.

This begs the question: Can a country really go bankrupt? The answer is complicated since a federal government cannot file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Congress eventually has to decide to let the government default on its debt, or it can keep borrowing.

Many economists worry about uncontrolled inflation if the government continues to print money to meet its demands. The nonpartisan Peter G. Peterson Foundation claims that growing debt has an impact on the economy in several ways, including less confidence in the government's ability to repay debt, which would discourage private investment, and higher expenditure on interest payments that results in less money being invested in public infrastructure and economic growth.

Meanwhile, Republican nominee Donald Trump endorsed Elon Musk as the 'cost-cutter' in his cabinet. However, Trump acknowledged that Musk wouldn't be available for the full-time role.

Elon Musk says 'will be there to support' as Trump returns to site of July assassination attempt for rally

A legal victory for Tesla and its CEO Elon Musk, as a federal judge has dismissed a shareholder lawsuit that accused the electric vehicle maker of fraudulently overstating the capabilities and safety of its self-driving technology. The decision, handed down Monday by U.S. District Judge Araceli Martinez-Olguin in San Francisco, marks a crucial win for the company as it continues to face scrutiny over its autonomous driving claims.

The lawsuit, which sought to represent shareholders who held Tesla stock between February 2019 and February 2023, centred on allegations that the company and Musk had deliberately misled investors about the readiness and safety of Tesla's self-driving technology to artificially inflate the company's stock price. At the heart of the dispute were Tesla's "Autopilot" features and the premium "Full Self Driving" software upgrades, which have been the subject of both acclaim and controversy.

In her ruling, Judge Martinez-Olguin found that the plaintiffs failed to establish that Tesla and Musk should be held liable for their statements about the company's autonomous driving capabilities. The judge's decision hinged on several key points. First, she determined that many of the challenged statements were not definitively false, while others could be considered protected speech as they addressed future expectations for the technology rather than current capabilities.

The court also rejected the plaintiffs' argument that Musk's extensive involvement in Tesla's operations necessarily indicated he possessed knowledge that contradicted public statements. Furthermore, the judge dismissed the significance of Musk's substantial stock sales during the class period, which totaled nearly $34 billion in profits. Shareholders had pointed to these sales, comparing the amount to Vermont's entire gross domestic product, as evidence of Musk potentially profiting at other investors' expense.

Despite this legal victory, Tesla's autonomous driving claims continue to face scrutiny from multiple regulatory bodies. The company remains under investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice and the Securities and Exchange Commission. Additionally, the California Department of Motor Vehicles is conducting its own examination of Tesla's self-driving technology claims.

The dismissal of this lawsuit does not completely close the door on future legal challenges, as Judge Martinez-Olguin dismissed the case without prejudice, allowing shareholders the opportunity to amend and refile their complaint. This detail suggests that while Tesla has won this round, the broader debate over its self-driving technology claims may be far from over.

The case highlights the complex landscape surrounding autonomous vehicle technology and the challenges companies face in marketing advanced driver assistance systems. Tesla's approach to developing and promoting its self-driving capabilities has been notably aggressive compared to other automakers, often pushing the boundaries of what regulators and the public consider acceptable claims about autonomous driving technology.

Throughout the controversy, Tesla has maintained that its Autopilot and Full Self Driving features enhance safety when properly used, pointing to data suggesting lower accident rates for vehicles equipped with these technologies. However, critics argue that the naming and marketing of these features may create unrealistic expectations about their capabilities, potentially leading to unsafe user behaviour.

The legal victory comes at a crucial time for Tesla, as the company continues to expand its autonomous driving capabilities while facing increasing competition in the electric vehicle market. The ruling may provide some reassurance to investors about the company's marketing practices, though the ongoing regulatory investigations suggest that Tesla's approach to promoting its self-driving technology will remain under scrutiny.

Justice Alexandre de Moraes of the Brazilian Supreme Court on Friday added new conditions to have Elon Musk's X service reinstated in the country, one day after the social media platform announced it had complied with all the requirements from the judge, such as appointing a legal representative.

Only Starlink's withdrawal of its appeals connected to the case would make it possible for X to reopen in Brazil, De Moraes ruled Friday. X has been blocked in Brazil for nearly a month. The shutdown was ordered after months of clashes between De Moraes and Musk over free speech, far-right accounts, and misinformation.

Earlier this month, de Moraes ordered Starlink's assets to be used to pay X's fines, which had risen above $3 million. The Brazilian justice stated the two companies belong to the same economic group - an argument that some experts have undermined.

His latest ruling also levied a fine of 10 million Brazilian reais ($1.84 million). Experts poring over X's IP addresses — numerical designations that determine locations for sites on the web — said the firm briefly routed users through Cloudflare's servers, a content delivery network.

X said it switched to new servers to improve service for its clients in Latin America, which accidentally brought the social media network back online in Brazil.

A source close to the ruling of the judge said to The Associated Press that the two de Moraes conditions are new. The source was not authorised to talk about the case and, therefore, was speaking on the condition of anonymity.

De Moraes also accepted X's newly appointed lawyer but fined her 300,000 reais ($55,000) for failure to comply with other resolutions taken in August. His decision to suspend the social media channel was because of the company's failure to have a legal representative in the country on Aug. 30.

‘We were illegal immigrants’: Elon Musk’s brother Kimbal admits in resurfaced video

Elon Musk's social media platform X will file documents requested by Brazil's Supreme Court and request by this Monday that the service be restored in the country, two people familiar with the situation said.

Brazil had blocked access to the platform formerly known as Twitter since the end of August following an order by Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes. The judge and the US technology firm have been at loggerheads over his investigation of "digital militias" he has accused of spreading hate messages in Brazil.

The dispute led X to close its offices in the country and let go of employees, including its legal agent, in breach of domestic law.

According to sources familiar with X's plans, the platform could be opened up to Brazilians as soon as next week after the company provides documents requested by the court proving it now has a legal representative in the country.

X and the Brazilian Supreme Court did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

In what appears to be a compromise last week, X lawyers announced that the company has named its legal representative in Brazil, as the Supreme Court had ordered, but the company did not initially provide documents that would prove the appointee was formally able to respond on behalf of the company. Sources say the firm expects the new set of documents sent to solve the issue.

The sources said X also started to comply with all the other demands of the court - blocking profiles of people allegedly spreading fake news and paying an 18 million reais ($3 million) fine via accounts of Musk's Starlink.

The social media firm is keen to smooth over the relationship with Moraes and operate like any other tech company in the country, said one of the sources.

Self-styled free speech champion, X owner Elon Musk, on Thursday (Sep 26) came under fire for suspending a journalist’s account for posting a document allegedly hacked by Iran. Independent journalist Ken Klippenstein shared a 271-page research file on former United States President Donald Trump’s running mate, JD Vance, which allegedly had been hacked by Iranian actors to influence US presidential elections.

Klippenstein’s account was soon suspended by X for violating the platform’s hacked materials policy. The policy had been in place before Musk bought Twitter in 2022 for $44 billion. The company later made changes to its policy saying it will no longer remove hacked content unless it is directly shared by hackers or those acting in concert with them.

Klippenstein had shared the document on his personal Substack, writing, "The dossier has been offered to me and I've decided to publish it because it's of keen public interest in an election season." "As far as I can tell, it hasn't been altered, but even if it was, its contents are publicly verifiable. I'll let it speak for itself," he added.

However, X in a statement said the document also included personal details about Vance, including his physical addresses.

Elon Musk accuses UK of releasing paedophiles, apparently after being snubbed for business summit

Speculation is swirling about a possible romantic relationship between Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and tech billionaire Elon Musk. Rumors have emerged following their recent public interactions, sparking curiosity about their personal lives. While no official confirmation has been made, the buzz surrounding their potential relationship has drawn significant media attention, fueling discussions across social and political circles.

Italian PM Giorgia Meloni and Tech Billionaire Elon Musk Dating?

Elon Musk showered lavish praise on Giorgia Meloni at an event held on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly on Tuesday. The billionaire was invited to introduce the Italian Prime Minister at the Atlantic Council’s glitzy gala dinner in New York, a move that didn't go down too well with many of the think tank's staffers.

At the Ziegfeld Ballroom in downtown Manhattan, Musk called Meloni “someone who is even more beautiful on the inside than she is on the outside". With 700 people at the venue, including several heads of state, the SpaceX CEO then went on to call her “authentic, honest and thoughtful", Politico reported.

“That can’t always be said about politicians,” Musk joked. Other leaders present couldn't help but laugh at the statement.

The 53-year-old businessman presented 47-year-old Meloni with the Global Citizens Award here, which was followed by a short hug and a stare in the eyes.

Musk and Meloni have met each other several times over the past few years ever since their first meeting at Meloni’s official residence in Rome in June 2023. They talked about West’s declining birth rates and the potential of artificial intelligence.

The X owner was also present at a political festival hosted by Meloni’s far-right Brothers of Italy party last December.

After Meloni took to the stage to address the hundreds of attendees, she returned the favour by calling Musk a “precious genius".

She talked about her vision of Western conservatism, before talking about patriotism. Melon defended the "values" of the West and "a civilization built over the centuries".

“Defending our deep roots is the precondition for reaping ripe fruit," the Italian prime minister said.

She challenged the notion of the “inevitable decline of the West.”

Musk, who was there with his mother Maye Musk, gave Meloni a standing ovation along with everyone else in the ballroom.

Melon defended the "values" of the West and "a civilization built over the centuries". “Defending our deep roots is the precondition for reaping ripe fruit," the Italian prime minister said. She challenged the notion of the “inevitable decline of the West.” Musk, who was there with his mother Maye Musk, gave Meloni a standing ovation along with everyone else in the ballroom.
For the first time since Elon Musk took over as CEO in October 2022, X (formerly Twitter) released a transparency report on Wednesday (Sep 25), which offers insight into the platform’s content moderation efforts for the first half of 2024.

This 15-page Global Transparency Report is the first since December 2021 and shows how X has managed user content. Before Musk's takeover, Twitter published semi-annual reports on its moderation efforts through its Transparency Center, a practice that began in 2012.

The report reveals that from January to June 2024, X reported suspending nearly 5.3 million accounts, a significant increase compared to the 1.6 million accounts suspended during the same period in 2022. In addition, over 10.6 million posts were either taken down or flagged for breaking platform rules. About 5 million of these were flagged for breaching the “hateful conduct” policy.

Posts containing violent content (2.2 million) and those related to abuse and harassment (2.6 million) also made up a large part of the content that was either labelled or removed.

Elon Musk's recent decision to comply with Brazil's Supreme Court marks a significant shift in his approach to governance and free speech. After months of defiance, during which Musk's platform X faced a nationwide ban, he finally agreed to suspend accounts linked to extremist groups and appoint a local government Liaison.
