The two Trump cabinet officials said in a joint statement that both sides “agreed that in spite of the current global health emergency, both countries fully expect to meet their obligations under the agreement in a timely manner.”

China’s Commerce Ministry said the two sides agreed to improve the atmosphere for implementation of the Phase 1 deal, which calls for Beijing to boost its purchases of American farm and manufactured goods, energy and services by $200 billion over two years compared to a 2017 baseline.

The deal brought a partial truce to an 18-month trade war between the world’s two largest economies that heaped US&nbsp;tariffs on some $370 billion worth of Chinese imports.

Trump, who has blamed China’s early handling of the coronavirus outbreak in Wuhan in late 2019 for causing thousands of deaths and millions of job losses in the United States, has threatened to terminate the trade deal if China fails to meet its purchase commitments. He said on Wednesday that he will assess that effort within the next week.

Trump and some members of his administration have threatened punitive action against Beijing, including possible tariffs and shifting supply chains away from China.

"Even before the COVID-19 crisis we assessed a certain level of coordination between Russia and the PRC in the realm of propaganda," said Lea Gabrielle, coordinator of the State Department's Global Engagement Center, which tracks foreign propaganda.

"But with this pandemic the cooperation has accelerated rapidly," she told reporters.

"We see this convergence as a result of what we consider to be pragmatism between the two actors who want to shape public understanding of the COVID pandemic for their own purposes," she said.

In fact, when I first picked up the specimen in blaine, I thought it was a child's toy. That's how large it was compared to other hornets that I'm used to dealing with," said&nbsp;Sven-Erik Spichiger, Managing Entomologist at WSDA.

Second, the insects are notorious for killing entire honeybee hives,&nbsp;which would be a huge threat for the country's agricultural system.

On Thursday,&nbsp;an entomologist at the Washington State Department of agriculture took media personnel on a tour of the traps that have been set up.

The programme takes a cue from Japan and Korea where the species have been around for a long time.

"As gruesome as that sounds, that's our goal, to kill these off and keep them from establishing in Washington State," said Dr. Chris Looney, an&nbsp;Entomologist.

The Asian giant hornets are also called Murder Hornets.&nbsp;Experts say multiple stings can be fatal. Group attacks can produce toxic venom equal to that of a venomous snake.

"If you sustain multiple stings, the necrosis and the venom will actually start getting into your bloodstream and will start working on your organs. And multiple stings could literally be fatal and have been fatal," said&nbsp;Sven-Erik Spichiger.

While question marks remain over how exactly the insects landed on American soil, what is clear is that they could not have arrived at a worse time.

Now, US prepares to fight another war against giant killer hornets

The US Justice Department has dropped charges against Donald Trump's former aide Michael Flynn, despite his two affirmations of guilty plea.

The department said in a filing Flynn's December 2017 guilty plea for lying to the FBI in an interview over his Russia contacts was moot because the lies were not significant.

It said the FBI's original probe of him had no "legitimate investigative basis."

It sparked accusations that Barr was undermining longstanding department policies barring interference in cases involving political cronies.

This is quite a game, politics. There are no permanent enemies, and no permanent friends, only permanent interests, they said. Or so is proved by the political stalwarts world over.

Kayleigh McEnany, who recently took over the mantle of the White House press secretary, was once a harsh critic of then-candidate Donald Trump.

After Trump was elected, McEnany served as a spokeswoman for the Republican National Committee and the Trump re-election campaign, before being named White House press secretary in early April.

McEnany has turned into a fierce advocate for him, though her erstwhile vocabulary included calling comments Trump made about Mexican immigrants in 2015 "racist."

In 2015, McEnany was particularly critical of statements Trump made while announcing his campaign, in which he said Mexico was sending immigrants to the US who were "rapists" and bringing drugs and crime to the country.

"To me, a racist statement is a racist statement. I don't like what Donald Trump said," she said in an exchange on CNN in late June 2015. She even compared his remarks to comments about Jewish people made by the Rev. Al Sharpton in the 1990s, adding Trump's comments were "derogatory" and as "equally hateful" as the latter's.

Speaking on CNN on June 29, 2015, McEnany said, "I want to make clear, I don't support what Donald Trump said."

A day later on CNN, McEnany called Trump "a Republican in name only" who needed to apologise for his comments.

"That's the problem with Donald Trump is he can't apologize for his own statement. And not apologizing, he's losing credibility on what is a credible issue," she added.

McEnany's rhetoric on Trump began to shift by July 2015, as Trump continued to lead in primary polling.

"I was helping Venezuelans take back control of their country," he added.

Denman said he and Airan Berry, 41, were contracted by Jordan Goudreau, an American military veteran who leads a Florida-based Silvercorp USA firm, to carry out the operation.

Venezuela says they are "mercenaries" whose armed incursion was foiled. It will seek extradition of Goudreau, who has admitted he was involved in the operation.

According to Maduro, Silvercorp signed a contract with opposition leader Juan Guaido, a politician seen by the US and many European countries as Venezuela's legitimate leader.

Maduro has often accused US President Donald Trump of trying to invade the country and overthrow him.
