The airport had temporarily suspended operations on Saturday due to strong winds and heavy rainfall caused by cyclones. Airlines had issued travel advisories and updated their flight schedules in response to the continuous downpours in Tamil Nadu. Several passengers experienced delays, with many stranded at the airport for 8 to 10 hours due to the sudden cancellation of flights.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Cyclone Fengal, which had been stationary over north coastal Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, was classified as a cyclonic storm with wind speeds of 65-75 km/h, gusting up to 85 km/h.

The IMD stated that the cyclone would gradually weaken into a deep depression within the next three hours and continue to move west-southwestward.

"The Cyclonic Storm "FENGAL" [pronounced as FEINJAL] over north coastal Tamilnadu &amp; Puducherry remained practically stationary during the past 1 hour and lay centred at 0030 hrs IST of today, the 01st December over the same region near latitude 12.0°N and longitude 79.8°E, close to Puducherry, as a cyclonic storm with a wind speed of 65-75 kmph gusting to 85 kmph. The cyclonic storm "FENGAL" will move west-southwestwards slowly and weaken gradually into a deep depression during the next 3 hours. The system is being continuously monitored by the Doppler Weather Radar at Chennai &amp; Karaikal," IMD posted on X.

Cyclone Fengal made landfall on Saturday night between 10:30 pm and 11:30 pm IST, near Puducherry, with wind speeds of 70-80 km/h, gusting up to 90 km/h. As a precautionary measure, people in affected areas have been relocated to relief camps near Kalpakkam in the Chengalpattu district.

The cyclone's impact led to heavy rainfall and gusty winds, disrupting road and air services and affecting normal life in Puducherry and various parts of Tamil Nadu.

Cyclone Dana updates: The Odisha coast is bracing for Cyclone Dana, which is expected to make landfall near the coastal state by October 25. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said the cyclone is likely to make landfall between Bhitarkanika National Park and Dhamra Port on Friday.&nbsp;

The met department also said that the landfall process will start from the night of October 24 and will continue till the next day. "The remaining people will be brought to safety by 11 am on Thursday," he said.

While asserting that the state is fully prepared to face the calamity, Majhi assured the people that they are in "safe hands".

"Do not panic and stay safe. You (people) are in safe hands," he said, adding that all arrangements have been made for the people at the cyclone shelters.

<h2>Cyclone Dana: Over 200 trains cancelled, several flights suspended</h2>

The Eastern and South Eastern railways cancelled many trains on October 24 and 25, given the cyclone.

Railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw convened a meeting on Wednesday with senior officials from the Railway Board, as well as the East Coast and South Eastern zones, to assess their readiness to mitigate the effects of cyclone Dana on railway services.

Flight operations at Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata will be suspended for 15 hours starting at 6:00 pm on Thursday as a precautionary measure ahead of Cyclone Dana. According to airport authorities, flight operations will be halted from 6:00 pm on October 25 until 9:00 am on October 26.

Cyclone Dana lay 420 km southeast of Paradip, 450 km south-southeast of Dhamara and 500 km south-southeast of Sagar Island at 8:30 am as of Wednesday, the IMD said.

“This low pressure is very likely to move northwestwards and reach the north-west Bay of Bengal off the Odisha-West Bengal coasts by October 24,” the department said.

The cyclonic circulation over the sea has been causing moderate rainfalls in Chennai and adjoining districts, including Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram and Tiruvallur.

The Weather Department added that this wet spell is likely to continue for the next few days and could bring down the maximum and minimum temperatures.

It also advised the fishermen not to venture into the sea until further notice as strong winds with a speed reaching 35 kmph to 45 kmph are likely to prevail over the Tamil Nadu coast, Gulf of Mannar and Camorin area.

The weather department has also predicted heavy rains on October 21 at isolated places over the ghat areas of Coimbatore and Tirupur and in the districts of Ranipet, Vellore, Tirupattur, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Salem, Tiruchi, Dindigul, Madurai, Pudukottai, Ariyalur, and Perambalur.

An intense cyclone hit the low-lying coast of Bangladesh on Sunday (May 26), said the government weather experts as thousands were evacuated to safer areas.

"The severe Cyclone Remal has started crossing the Bangladesh coast," Bangladesh Meteorological Department director Azizur Rahman told news agency AFP.&nbsp;

"We have so far recorded maximum wind speeds of 90 kilometres (56 miles) per hour, but the wind speed may pick up more pace."

Rahman added that the severe storm could continue to hammer the coast until the early hours of Monday morning (May 27).

The authorities have raised the danger signals to its highest levels.

"The cyclone could unleash a storm surge of up to 12 feet (four metres) above normal astronomical tide, which can be dangerous," AFP quoted senior weather official Muhammad Abul Kalam Mallik as saying.

<h2>NDRF teams deployed in West Bengal</h2>

National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams have been deployed in the Indian state of West Bengal, where NDRF personnel are holding awareness drives in South 24 Parganas for people residing in Uttar Danga.

In North 24 Parganas, West Bengal, a NDRF team has been stationed in the Hasnabad village.

"It is likely to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm and a cross between Bangladesh and adjoining West Bengal coasts around May 26 midnight with maximum sustained wind speed 110 to 120 kilometres per hour, gusting to 135 kilometres per hour," IMD scientist Somenath Dutta told ANI.

"North 24 Parganas and South 24 Parganas are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall, while Hooghly, Howrah, Kolkata and East Medinipur will receive extremely heavy rainfall," Dutta said.

The cyclone would cause rainfall and strong winds in West Bengal, Tripura, and some other parts of northeastern states.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi also chaired a meeting in the national capital&nbsp;to review the preparedness for the cyclone.
