<p>Following the Russia-Ukraine crisis, Russian energy imports to Europe have taken a hit. They have come down considerably, resulting in a sharp rise in prices. In the absence of supply, Germany has been trying to look at other options to increases its supplies, especially looking to a very potential winter shortages. Due to the same reason, Germany has restarted its coal power plants "for a short time", Scholz said.</p>

<p>However, he assured that Germany would "stick to our exit from coal" policy, with Berlin targeting a complete end for the fossil fuel in 2030. Germany has also been investing billions into new infrastructure for the import of natural gas from new sources, such as the United States or Qatar.</p>

<p>Officials have informed that such liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminals will in time be retrofitted for the import of hydrogen. Scholz stressed that given the pressure Russia has been able to exert on countries by cutting supplies showed that the transition away from fossil fuels was a "security policy imperative".&nbsp;</p>

Whether Sharm-el-Sheikh will be able to replace the vagueness of Glasgow with respect to a tangible solution towards such a funding programme, remains to be seen.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“The inclusion of this agenda reflects a sense of solidarity for the victims of climate disasters,” COP27 president Sameh Shoukry added.</p>

<p>The report, which was published on the opening day of the Cop27 climate summit in Egypt, pointed out that the record percentage of greenhouse gases has led to massive calamities around the world. The report specifically included the devasting floods in Pakistan as well as Puerto Rico.</p>

<p>UN secretary-general Antonio Guterres said during his address that “our planet is on course to reach tipping points that will make climate chaos irreversible” and it is clear from the fact that the temperatures have been rising consistently since 2016 due to the rise of pollutants.</p>

<p>“The greater the warming, the worse the impacts,” WMO secretary-general, Prof Petteri Taalas said.</p>

Egyptian diplomat Wael Abdoulmagd, the in charge of the summit said, “Political statements and pledges are made in front of the cameras, but in the negotiating rooms it’s back to the adversarial approach. These [publicly positive positions] will not be of value until translated into the negotiating rooms, and that has not been the case so far.”</p>

<p>Scholz also urged the activists not to endanger others after a street protest reportedly prevented emergency workers from getting to the scene of an accident on Monday.</p>

<p>According to the Bild daily, a specialist vehicle was delayed in reaching a cyclist who had been run over by a cement mixer in Berlin because activists had glued themselves to a nearby street.</p>
