<p>In an update, the UKMTO said that it was informed by a Company Security Officer that an explosion had occurred in close proximity to a merchant vessel in the area.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The vessel and the crew are reported safe and the authorities are still investigating the incident, said the British agency.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Meanwhile, Ambrey said that the vessel was targeted due to its listed operator’s ongoing trade with Israel.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Both Ambrey and UKMTO reported that the incident took place around 54 nautical miles northwest of Yemen’s Mokha.</p>

<h2><strong>Houthi militants involved?</strong></h2>

<p>The Yemen-based Iran-backed Houthi rebels have repeatedly attacked international commercial shipping in the Red Sea region with drones and missiles, saying that they are acting in solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza amid the ongoing war between Israel and the militant group Hamas.&nbsp;</p>

<p>It reported that the ship had no ties with Israel as Symi is leased to CMA CGM by Singapore-based Eastern Pacific Shipping, which is a company ultimately controlled by Israeli billionaire Idan Ofer.</p>

<p>“The attack is likely to have been targeted, due to the vessel’s Israeli affiliation through Eastern Pacific Shipping,” the private intelligence firm Ambrey told the AP.</p>

<p>“The vessel’s AIS transmissions were off days prior to the event, indicating this alone does not prevent an attack.”</p>

<p>A statement issued on behalf of Eastern Pacific acknowledged the company being "aware of claims that a container ship under the company's management was targeted in a possible security incident overnight on Friday."</p>

<p>"The vessel in question is currently sailing as planned," the statement said. "All crew are safe and well."</p>

<p>On Twitter account, the coast guard later posted a statement that 16 people had been evacuated from the Zim Kingston "after a fire broke out in 10 containers." &nbsp;</p>

<p>“Emergency tow vessels, tugs and CCG monitor the ship overnight to ensure the five crew members on the ship are safe, and that the ship remains secured,” said coast guard in a tweet. &nbsp;</p>

<p>Later, in a statement, the vessel's manager Danaos Shipping said that the incident was caused by "excessive listing due to extreme weather." &nbsp;</p>

'Ever Given' floats again but backlog at Suez Canal continues  

<p>A container ship that ran aground in the Suez Canal on Tuesday has caused a major traffic jam, blocking other vessels’ access to the world’s most important water route.</p>

<p>The 200,000-tonne vessel was heading to the Mediterranean from the Red Sea when it suffered a blackout and halted.</p>

<p>According to the port agency GAC, over 15 ships immediately behind the vessel were stopped. Many other convoys have also been stopped. The container ship called “Ever Given” is 400 metres long, 59 metres wide, and is qualified to carry up to 20,000 20-foot equivalent containers for shipping.</p>

<p>Israel is highly likely to have been behind an attack in the Mediterranean this week that damaged an Iranian container ship, an Iranian investigator said on Saturday, Iran's media reported.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Shahr e Kord vessel was hit by an explosive object which caused a small fire, but no one on board was hurt, Iran said on Friday. Two maritime security sources said initial indications suggested the ship was intentionally targeted by an unknown source.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Considering the geographical location and the way the ship was targeted, one of the strong possibilities is that this terrorist operation was carried out by the Zionist regime (Israel)," an unnamed member of the Iranian team investigating the incident was quoted as saying by semi-official Nournews.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Israeli Defence Minister Benny Gantz declined to comment directly about the incident when addressing a webinar on Saturday hosted by his Blue and White party, but he said, Iran regularly sent weapons to its proxies in the region.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"We foil arms supplies and other things relating to operational development and military capabilities by air, sea and land," Gantz said. "And by this, I am not saying whether we did or did not do this or that."&nbsp;</p>

<p>Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh said reports confirmed an act of sabotage in violation of international law, state media said. "Measures to identify the perpetrators of this sabotage action are on the agenda," he said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Iranian investigator said explosive projectiles could have been fired from an aerial vehicle, hitting containers on the ship's deck.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Iran's state-run shipping company IRISL said it would take legal action to identify the perpetrators of the attack, which it called terrorism and naval piracy.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Authorities in Pakistan&#39;s southern port of Karachi have launched an effort to retrieve 21 containers knocked overboard after a ship moving into its berth brushed against a stationary vessel, officials said on Tuesday (March 20).</p>

<p>No one was injured in Monday&#39;s&nbsp;incident at South Asia Pakistan Terminals (SAPT), a subsidiary of Hutchison Port Holdings of Hong Kong commissioned last year, and port operations were not suspended, the terminal operator said.</p>

<p>The container vessel Tolten scraped against the stationary Hamburg Bay as it was berthing, dislodging the containers stowed on its left side and sending them into the water.</p>

<p>A survey of damage to the Tolten is expected to be completed by Wednesay, SAPT added, and the Hamburg Bay is expected to set sail soon.</p>
