Director Steven Soderbergh has revealed that he is working on a "philosophical" sequel to his pandemic thriller, 'Contagion'. 
 
The 2011 movie, which depicts the outbreak of a deadly and fast-spreading viral disease, received renewed popularity in 2020 as many pointed out the freakish similarity between the current scenario of coronavirus pandemic and the film's plot.&nbsp; 
 
Soderbergh said screenwriter Scott Z Burns, who wrote the original, will return for the follow-up. 
 
"I've got a project in development that Scott Burns is working with me on, that's a kind of philosophical sequel to 'Contagion', but in a different context. 
 
"You'll kind of look at the two of them as kind of paired, but very different hair colours. So, Scott and I had been talking about, 'So, what's the next iteration of a 'Contagion'-type story?' We have been working on that; we should probably hot-foot it a little bit," Soderbergh said during 'Happy Sad Confused' podcast. 
 
In March, the film's stars -- Matt Damon, Laurence Fishburne, Kate Winslet and Jennifer Ehle -- appeared in a series of public service videos to spread awareness about the ways to deal with coronavirus. 
 
Created in partnership with scientists from Columbia University's Mailman School of Public Health, the videos were directed by Soderbergh and produced by Burns. 
 
'Contagion' also featured Marion Cotillard, Jude Law, Gwyneth Paltrow, Bryan Cranston, and Sanaa Lathan.

“I think it’s the unknown element of this virus. We just don’t know how it’s going to affect any given individual. I think that was what’s so terrifying,” said Winslet. “I’m a very practical, straightforward person, and if I have to respond to an emergency, I just go into that zone.”

Despite the precautions taken, Winslet revealed that two of closest people tested positive for the virus. 
 
"One was in L.A. and was very lucky to get on a trial using convalescent plasma and did really, really well in the space of, like, 72 hours after the treatment. And a dialect coach who lives in London has had it, was in hospital for 11 weeks, is out, and has had every lung test, blood test, blood pressure test, and is clear of everything but just cannot get better — is breathless, lethargic, still feels very unwell," said the actress.

Anand had met with Irrfan Khan around the release of ‘Maqbool’. They drove to Pune once and became friends over the years. They had explored the possibility of him starring in ‘Tumbbad’ and it was before the final script and schedule changes were made. ‘Tumbbad’ was loved by critics.

He revealed that Irrfan Khan could also have starred in the pandemic film ‘Emergence’, something that he had been working on for years. It’s been close to five years that Anand has been developing the script.

‘Emergence’ is about the story of five women scientists fighting the contagion and are superheroes in their own way. It would take the parasite-host relationship further. The script eerily represents the current scenario of the world. Tentatively titled 2020 at the time, he said that it had all the elements of storage crisis for scientific data, rightwing politics, among other things.

His idea is to make the film the most researched one on the pandemic. The filmmaker plans to take the film on the floor by next year.&nbsp;

Lipkin is the director of the Center for Infection and Immunity at Columbia University, who advised director Steven Soderbergh on the film. He revealed his condition after discussing the coronavirus outbreak on Fox's ‘Lou Dobbs Tonight’.

As he spoke about the outbreak, he showed he had dry cough and then announced, "I would like to say on this show tonight, this has become very personal to me, too. Because I have COVID as of yesterday. It’s miserable."

"If it can hit me, it can hit anybody. That’s the message I want to convey," he added.

On what to do, Lipkin said, "We really don’t know when we’re going to get this under control. We have porous borders between states and cities, and unless we’re consistent, we’re not gonna get ahead of this thing. The best tool we have is isolation and confinement.”

In an email to USA TODAY, he also wrote, "We must immediately enforce national shelter-in -place regulations to flatten the curve and minimize further transmission, disease, deaths and economic disruption."

Dr Ian Lipkin is a respected scientist who was brought on board of the film ‘Contagion’ so as to make it look real since the makers and the scientist called it “an effort to accurately represent the science and to make a movie that would entertain as well as educate.”
