German carmaker BMW faces a US lawsuit filed on Tuesday that alleges emissions cheating on diesel vehicles including its X5 and 330d models.

"BMW's representations were misleading for failure to disclose its emissions manipulations," said the lawsuit, which was filed in US district court in New Jersey.&nbsp;

The lawsuit was filed on behalf of BMW drivers by Steve Berman of the law firm Hagens Berman Sobol Shapiro LLP, and James Cecchi of the law firm Carella, Byrne, Cecchi, Olstein, Brody & Agnello, the filings show.&nbsp;

BMW's X5 model, built between 2009 and 2013, and the BMW 330d model, which was sold between 2009-2011, emit levels of nitrogen oxide "many times higher than their gasoline counterparts," the suit alleges.

"The vehicles` promised power, fuel economy, and efficiency are obtained only by turning off or turning down emission controls when the software in these vehicles senses that they are not in an emissions testing environment," the lawsuit said.

A spokesman for BMW in a statement said the company was thoroughly studying the lawsuit to understand what is being alleged. "As a matter of principle, BMW Group vehicles are not manipulated and comply with all respective legal requirements," the spokesman said.

Software management programs to manage emissions are not illegal unless they are designed specifically to evade pollution tests, or unless a carmaker fails to disclose their existence.

Shares in BMW reduced gains sharply earlier on Tuesday with traders pointing to a Bloomberg report saying the German carmaker was being sued for installing "defeat devices" in US diesel cars.

Tendulkar did not consider him a big fan of classic cars said his choice is more based on the performance-based&nbsp;sports cars and SUV.

Expressing concerns over the results of pollution caused by cars he said that change never happens overnight but companies are working towards it, the change takes some time and the infrastructure is also an important factor to&nbsp;avoid all these situations.

Earlier Monday the Sueddeutsche and Stuttgarter Zeitung dailies reported that a research group funded by Volkswagen, Daimler and BMW had measured the effects of inhaling nitrogen oxide gases on 25 healthy human beings at a German university hospital.

The revelation came just days after the New York Times wrote that the same organisation carried out tests on monkeys in the United States in 2014.

According to the NYT article, the researchers locked 10 monkeys into airtight chambers and made them breathe in diesel exhausts from a VW Beetle while watching cartoons.

Volkswagen apologised for the animal testing at the weekend, saying the group &quot;distances itself clearly from all forms of animal abuse&quot;.

Special meeting&nbsp;

The German government has called a special meeting with the affected car companies to ask them to explain themselves, said acting transport minister Christian Schmidt.

&quot;This has once again damaged trust in the auto industry,&quot; he said.

It was VW&#39;s admission in 2015 that it had manipulated 11 million diesel cars with cheating software to make them seems less polluting than they were that brought close scrutiny to the industry, which had long touted diesels as better for the environment than gasoline-powered engines.

Several German cities grappling with air pollution are now mulling diesel bans.

All three German carmakers have distanced themselves from the research body in question -- the now defunct European Research Group on Environment and Health in the Transport Sector (EUGT) -- and promised to launch internal investigations.

&quot;The BMW Group did not participate in the mentioned studies,&quot; the luxury carmaker said in a statement.

&quot;We are appalled by the extent of the studies and their implementation,&quot; a Daimler spokesman told AFP.

While it was the EUGT that commissioned both tests, the organisation itself was financed by the trio of car giants hoping its research would defend diesel&#39;s green reputation -- and the valuable tax breaks that go with it.

The car companies decided in late 2016 to dissolve the EUGT, which finally shut its doors last year.

No significant effects

The tests involving 25 human volunteers were carried out at a university hospital in the German city of Aachen in 2013 and 2014.

As part of the study, the participants were exposed for several hours to different levels of nitrogen dioxide (NO2) -- the most toxic form of nitrogen oxide and commonly found in diesel exhausts.&nbsp;

The researchers detected &quot;no significant effects&quot;, according to a summary of the study.

But Thomas Kraus, the head of the relevant department at the university hospital in Aachen, told German media the findings were limited as they weren&#39;t representative of the wider population and didn&#39;t take into account general air pollution.

The institute released a statement stressing the study had been approved by the university hospital&#39;s ethics commission.

The study was carried out before &quot;dieselgate&quot; erupted and was not linked to diesel emissions testing or to experiments involving monkeys, it added.

On its website the World Health Organization points to &quot;growing evidence&quot; that nitrogen dioxide exposure &quot;can increase symptoms of bronchitis and asthma, as well as lead to respiratory infections and reduced lung function and growth.&quot;

Exposure is &quot;linked to premature mortality... from cardiovascular and respiratory diseases,&quot; it states.

The all-new 5 series looked as luxurious and grand as expected. The new sedan takes design cue from its elder sibling, the 7-series, and is larger in dimensions as well. Available in three levels--Sports line, Luxury and M-sport--the new 5-series is being offered with a choice of three engines-one Petrol and two diesels with the former belting around 254 BHP and the diesel one churning 186 BHP. All the engines come mated with an 8 speed automatic transmission.

BMW to raise production capacity to 3 million cars by 2020: Report

German luxury carmaker BMW will recall nearly 200,000 vehicles in China because of flawed airbags, according to the country&#39;s quality regulator and the company.

Some 168,861 imported cars produced between December 2005 and December 2011, and 24,750 vehicles produced locally between July 2005 and December 2011 will be recalled, according to a statement posted Friday on the official website of China&#39;s General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (ASDIQ).

Gas generators in the defective airbags of the recalled cars could break unexpectedly, creating debris that poses a threat to riders&#39; safety, ASDIQ said.

The company will replace the flawed gas generators in the airbags for free, it said.

Earlier this month, BMW China said they would recall some 22,543 imported BMW and Rolls-Royce vehicles also with flawed airbags.

The airbags in some imported BMW and Rolls-Royce cars produced between 2011 and 2012 might not deploy properly due to a programming error, the company said.

Analysts surveyed by Factset had predicted net profits would remain stable in the third quarter.

BMW was &quot;maintaining a strong basis for the consistent implementation of our strategy&quot; of investing profits into research and development in areas like electric and driverless cars, chief executive Harald Krueger said in a statement.

Sales by the world`s biggest high-end carmaker by revenue grew to 23.4 billion euros in the third quarter, with its BMW, Mini and Rolls-Royce divisions all booking big increases in unit sales.

The group sold more than 583,000 cars in the July to September period, up 7.1 per cent compared with the second quarter of 2015.

But it wasn`t spared by the cooling-off in the US market, which is on a downwards trend after years of record sales.

They said their new platform would be made available to multiple car-makers, without saying whether they were already in talks over any deals. 
 
Sophisticated cruise control systems already enable &quot;hands off&quot; driving as cameras and computers allow cars to automatically brake, steer and accelerate in traffic at low speeds. But drivers are required to stay in control. 
 
Now the auto industry wants to develop higher levels of automation described as &quot;eyes off,&quot; &quot;mind off,&quot; and &quot;driver off&quot; cruising. 
 
This requires much more computing power and software know-how, forcing traditional carmakers to collaborate more closely with technology specialists. 
 
Auto camera and software maker Mobileye said it would supply its Road Experience Management (REM) technology to the alliance and make its latest EyeQ5 chip available to be deployed on Intel computing platforms. 
 
The three companies said they would demonstrate their technology in a prototype in the near future.
