<p>This bride didn’t get any time to get coy and shed tears on her wedding as Shahid Kapoor, Ronit Roy, and Sanjay Kapoor made sure that everything went wrong for her on her big day. I am talking about Aparna Nayr who made a scintillating debut in Shahid Kapoor starrer <em>Bloody Daddy</em> with her wedding in the film acting as&nbsp;a backdrop for most of the action – from Shahid’s character’s kid getting kidnapped and being held hostage in the same hotel, to the whole run-and-chase sequences being filmed there. Making a high-flying Bollywood debut with director Ali Abbas Zafar, Aparna sounds&nbsp;extremely elated about the opportunity and the accolades that are coming her way post the release of the film.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Speaking to WION about her Hindi film debut and working with Shahid Kapoor in <em>Bloody Daddy</em>, Aparna Nayr opens up about foraying into films by chance. <em>Bloody Daddy</em> is currently streaming on JioCinema.&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>WION: This is your first Bollywood film. How does it feel to make your foray into cinema with such an intense project?</strong></p>

<p>Aparna Nayr: I have grown up watching Indian cinema. A lot of my identity with my Indian heritage has been connected through the years through movies and music. I'm so honoured and grateful to have had the opportunity to work for such a nuanced director like Ali sir. The icing on the cake was working alongside actors like Shahid Kapoor, Diana Penty, Ronit Roy, Sanjay Kapoor, Mukesh Bhatt, and several others. I feel super blessed.&nbsp;</p>

Shahid Kapoor is super professional. He was tuned into every little detail of every scene. I once joked with him and said that he looked like a psychopath after I saw him go crazy in one scene. He laughed about it. He was super nice off-camera and then tapped into this darkness when he needed to get into character.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Aparna Nayr: This movie is pure action at its core. Combat, guns, knives, flame throwers, and everything else. There's an element of relationships that dictates a lot of the underlying motives of the characters which you get to see in the movie.&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>WION: Since this is an OTT release, how do you feel kickstarting your career with the medium?</strong></p>

<p>Aparna Nayr: I'm a huge consumer of content released on OTT platforms. I'm excited for people to be able to access the movie easily on JioCinema.&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>WION: Did you always want to become an actor?</strong></p>

<p>Aparna Nayr: No, I did not. I actually wanted to be a cop/detective when I was a kid. I then wanted to be a teacher. I pursued accountancy in university, but never ended up working professionally as one.&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>WION: What do you love the most about films? Why did you want to be an actress?</strong></p>

<p>Aparna Nayr: I love the storytelling aspect of movies. Creating any world, any character, and going on a new adventure each time. I love acting because I get to be in someone else's shoes for a little while, whilst telling their story in an artistic way.&nbsp;</p>

Making a high-flying Bollywood debut with director Ali Abbas Zafar, Aparna sounds extremely elated about the opportunity and the accolades that are coming her way post the release of the film. Exclusive interview: Bloody Daddy actress Aparna Nayr on Bollywood debut with Shahid Kapoor film

<p>For those who have followed and loved actor Shahid Kapoor's career graph since the days of his debut in <em>Ishq Vishq</em>, his recent choice of films must have come as a surprise. He started off playing the quintessential lover boy in Hindi films but with age, has experimented with different roles and genres in cinema - proving that he has more to him than just playing the romantic hero. Kapoor's latest release, <em>Bloody Daddy,</em> helmed by Ali Abbas Zafar, puts the actor in a genre that usually one doesn't associate him with - action. But Kapoor manages to hold his own and eases into the character of an anti-hero with utmost perfection, making the film watchable.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
I have to be honest, when I had initially watched the trailer of <em>Bloody Daddy,</em> I wasn't very excited. It looked like a film which would indulge in stylised action sequences a bit too much, would have too much gore and a wafer-thin plot. I wasn't too wrong with my assumptions, yet I found <em>Bloody Daddy</em> an engaging watch -all thanks to the film's cast and Zafar's credible execution.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
<strong>The plot of <em>Bloody Daddy</em></strong><br />

Kapoor plays a sort of rebel, a narcotics officer called Sumair who right at the beginning of the film pulls off a drug heist in Delhi's Connaught Place along with an aide. The purpose of the heist is not known. What is known, though, is that it belongs to hotelier and drug lord Sikandar Chaudhary (Ronit Roy) who wants it back. And so as a retaliation, he kidnaps Sumair's son Atharv (Sartaaj Kakkar). The deal is simple, the duffle bag that Sumair has stolen contains cocaine worth Rs 500 million which Sikandar wants back and in exchange, Sumair can take his teenage son back. While the deal seems simple, there are multiple players involved. There are fellow officers Sameer (Rajeev Khandelwal) and Aditi (Diana Penty) who are after Sumair and want to arrest him, there is a local mafia leader Hameed who has his claims over the bag as well. All are in a hotel owned by Sikandar and the action takes place over a span of a night.<br />

Sumair, a single dad with a strained relationship with his teenage son, has to first find the bag, which is now missing and rescue his son before it's too late. &nbsp;The entire search happens in a sprawling hotel which is just opened up post-second wave lockdown. A marriage party is underway in the same hotel while drug lords, kidnappers, goons and the police play hide and seek and look for a bag full of drugs. Needless to say, the premise is chaotic and Zafar uses stylised, elaborate action sequences to add to the chaos.&nbsp;<br />

<strong>The performances</strong><br />
<br />
While the writing, by Zafar, Aditya Basu, Siddharth and Garima, may not always be very logical, the implementation on screen is slick. Despite the wafer-thin plot which leaves many questions unanswered, the film's treatment and its credible actors make it an engaging watch. Shahid Kapoor has performed better in other films, where his acting has been well-highlighted. <em>Bloody Daddy</em> is not that film. That does not take away anything from the actor though. He is in good form and eases into a poorly written role well. The character lacks depth which is perhaps the writer's fault but Kapoor looks and performs his character well- sometimes reminding you of his recent roles in <em>Farzi</em> and <em>Kabir Singh.&nbsp;</em><br />
<br />
Giving him able support are actors Ronit Roy, Ankur Bhatia, Rajeev Khandelwal and Diana Penty who in their limited roles deliver well and do justice to their characters. Sanjay Kapoor too, in what appears to be a cameo role, performs to his role well. Wish all these actors though had more to do - all are credible performers and deserved more screen time.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
While the script may appear incoherent in certain parts, there are moments in the film which stand out. Kapoor barges into the wedding party as he is chased by Roy and his men, climbs up on an elaborately decorated table, trampling over champagne glasses, &nbsp;while the bride and groom and their guests look in horror. The scene is well executed and is quite a delight to watch even though there are very few dialogues in it. Then near the climax, Badshah croons on stage as violence ensues in the background.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
<em>Bloody Daddy</em> may not have a legible plot, but surprisingly it still keeps you hooked. You may want to know a few things here and there, yet you will immerse yourself in the film as Kapoor and Khandelwal fight it out in the kitchen with knives instead of guns.&nbsp;<br />

Should you be watching <em>Bloody Daddy</em>? Yes, for Kapoor and the rest of the cast. For its action sequences and for its sly, chaotic comedy. Bloody Daddy review: Shahid Kapoor aces in a slick action-thriller

<p>Shahid Kapoor is back on screen — all guns blazing. The trailer of his new film <em>Bloody Daddy</em> was dropped on Wednesday on social media and the film looks dark, gory and high on action.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
The trailer gives a glimpse of the plot which involves a drug lord played by Ronit Roy asking Shahid to return him a bag of cocaine which rightfully belongs to him. Shahid does what he is instructed to do but the packet contains flour and not cocaine and then all hell breaks loose. The trailer also gives a glimpse of other actors playing key roles in the film - Sanjay Kapoor, Rajeev Khandelwal and Diana Penty, and all are hellbent on stopping Shahid Kapoor from his mission.<br />

The film has been directed by Ali Abbas Zafar and will be releasing on OTT platform Jio Cinemas.&nbsp;</p>

The trailer gives a glimpse of the plot which involves a drug lord played by Ronit Roy asking Shahid to return him a bag of cocaine which rightfully belongs to him. Shahid does what he is instructed to do but the packet contains flour and not cocaine and then all hell breaks loose. The trailer also gives a glimpse of other actors playing key roles in the film - Sanjay Kapoor, Rajeev Khandelwal and Diana Penty, and all are hellbent on stopping Shahid Kapoor from his mission. The film has been directed by Ali Abbas Zafar and will be releasing on OTT platform Jio Cinemas. Bloody Daddy trailer: Shahid Kapoor teams up with Ali Abbas Zafar for action-thriller

<p>After delivering a solid&nbsp;performance in <em>Farzi,</em> Shahid Kapoor is back with yet another OTT project. Titled <em>Bloody Daddy</em>, the show is set to have a direct-to-digital release on June 9.&nbsp;</p>

<p><em>Bloody Daddy</em> is directed by Ali Abbas Zafar and is reported to feature all that a tentpole has – action, drama and lots of action. Teasing the first look of the film, Ali Abbas Zafar said in a video conference, “I am happy the teaser of our film is released, I am in London for a shoot of my other film.”</p>
