Following complaints by Afghanistan’s head coach Jonathan Trott after his side’s first match of the World Cup 2023 on Saturday, the ICC rated Dharamsala outfield as ‘average’. Though concerns raised saw cricket’s governing body intervene in the matter, the next encounter at this venue between England and Bangladesh on Tuesday will go ahead per the schedule.

ICC’s spokesperson confirmed board's independent pitch consultant, Andy Atkinson, is 'comfortable with the conditions' of the outfield at the venue.

"The process for assessing the condition of the pitch and outfield lies with the match officials under the ICC Pitch and Outfield Monitoring Process, and the outfield at Dharamsala was rated as average after the Afghanistan v Bangladesh match. Additionally, the ICC independent pitch consultant has taken a look at the outfield today and is comfortable with the conditions as is Javagal Srinath, the Match Referee for the next game," an ICC spokesperson said.

Looking at the video of the instance surfacing on the internet, it appears a lot of work needs to go into solving this issue. Per the latest reports, even on Sunday, the ground staff worked on making conditions friendly for the fielders to dive, as also noted by Trott in the post-match presser on Saturday.

Remaining aware of the situation, Hathurusingha&nbsp;said winning four or five games will be the initial goal for the team, and they can then aim higher as the tournament progresses.

"We all want to win the World Cup. Since you asked me our realistic goal, if we can win four or five matches we can get into the semi-finals. This is our first target. We have a good enough team to do this. We have to reach the semi-final stage,” he added.

Spinners Rashid Khan and Zahir Khan shared five wickets between them as Afghanistan came within four wickets of a historic win over Bangladesh in the one-off Test in Chittagong on Sunday.

The visitors — playing only their third Test ever — reduced Bangladesh to 136-6 before rain forced early stumps on the fourth day, with the hosts, who were set a record target of 398 runs, still needing 262.

The highest successful run chase in Bangladesh is 317-7 by New Zealand at the same ground in 2008.

"Yes, we are bit excited because we are in a good position," Afghanistan's wicketkeeper-batsman Afsar Zazai said.

"It means a lot to be honest," he added.

"The people know about us good enough in white-ball cricket. We've discussed in our dressing room that this Test match is very important for us to win because we want to show we can play Test cricket."
