<p>The new Council of Ministers announced by the party comprises Sultanpur Majra MLA Mukesh Ahlawat, a new entrant, besides ministers Gopal Rai, Kailash Gahlot, Saurabh Bharadwaj and Imran Hussain. All five ministers also took oath alongside Atishi at Raj Nivas.</p>

<p>As per reports, Atishi is expected to take oath as Delhi CM during a special Assembly session scheduled for September 26-27.</p>

<p>Assembly elections in Delhi are due in February but Kejriwal has called for early elections in November, a decision that lies with the Election Commission of India.</p>

<p>"Two days later, I will resign as Chief Minister. I will not sit on that chair till the people announce their verdict. Elections in Delhi are months away. I got justice from the legal court, now I will get justice from the people's court," Kejriwal said while addressing supporters of his Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).</p>

<p>"I will sit on the chief minister's chair only after the order of the people," Kejriwal added.</p>

<h2><strong>How did opposition react&nbsp;to Kejriwal's announcement?</strong></h2>

<p>The Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), who are the opposition parties in Delhi, called Kejriwal's announcement to resign as CM in 48&nbsp;hours as a PR gimmick.&nbsp;</p>

<p>So why is Kejriwal resigning from the CM's post after two days? Addressing a press conference, Delhi Minister Atishi was asked this question.</p>

<p>Delhi Revenue Minister Atishi on Friday (Aug 2) said that out of the inmates who died last month&nbsp;at the Asha Kiran shelter home in the Indian national capital's&nbsp;Rohini, some had&nbsp;comorbidities. Asha Kiran is a&nbsp;Delhi government-run facility for the “mentally challenged” and it comes under its Social Welfare Department.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Out of the 14 inmates who died in July, 13 were adults and one was a minor. The&nbsp;Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-led Delhi government ordered a magisterial inquiry into the deaths at the facility.</p>

<h2><strong>Autopsy report of inmates awaited</strong></h2>

<p>“Those suffering from profound or serious disability have other comorbidities also. The deaths of the 14 inmates in July is a serious matter," Atishi told reporters, adding, the autopsy report of the inmates was awaited.</p>

<p>“Some of those who succumbed were hospitalised in June. What I am saying is that their deaths need to be medically examined also,” she added.</p>

<p>Atishi, Delhi's Water Minister, was rushed to the hospital Tuesday morning (Jun 25) as her health reportedly deteriorated during an indefinite hunger strike. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) minister later said her blood pressure and sugar levels were dropping, along with her weight. Atishi is protesting against the government of neighbouring Haryana state for allegedly restricting the flow of the Yamuna river and not releasing 100 million gallons per day (MGD) of water amidst a water crisis in the national capital. Notably, Haryana is governed by the national ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).</p>

<p>Atishi was taken to the Lok Nayak Jai Prakash (LNJP) Hospital earlier today as her indefinite hunger strike entered the fifth day. Despite her poor health, Atishi has vowed to continue with the protest.</p>

<p>Dr Suresh Kumar, the hospital's director, told the news agency PTI that Atishi's condition was stable but she was in the ICU.</p>

<p>"She was advised hospitalisation last evening after her sugar levels declined and there the presence of ketones was detected in her urine. She had declined hospitalisation. However, at midnight, as her condition deteriorated and she was drowsy, she was admitted. She is currently stable and in the ICU. Her blood tests are being done," Dr Kumar added.</p>

<h2><strong>Hunger strike began on June 21</strong>&nbsp;</h2>

<p>The Delhi water minister began her indefinite hunger strike last Friday (June 21) to ensure the water rights of 2.8 million residents of New Delhi. <p>She along with AAP leader Sanjay Singh and other members sat on strike at Bhogal, near Jangpura in the Indian national capital.</p>

<p>Before heading to Bhogal, she paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat.</p>

<p>"It's our culture to provide water to the thirsty. Delhi gets water from neighbouring states. We hoped for the support of neighbouring states in such intense heat. But, Haryana reduced Delhi's water share," she said.</p>

<p>"Although there are governments of different parties in the two states but is this time for politics over water?," she added referring to Haryana's ruling BJP.</p>

<p>Delhi Police on Saturday (Jun 22) used water cannon to disperse the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers who were protesting against the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government - a show of striking irony as the main cause of demonstrations is an ongoing shortage of water in the Indian capital.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Delhi Water Minister Atishi began her indefinite hunger strike in south Delhi's Bhogal on Friday to get more water from Haryana. Atishi has claimed Haryana has released 100 MGD less water in Yamuna for Delhi in the last two weeks, affecting 28 lakh people in the city.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Notably, Delhi is dependent on drinking water supply from Uttar Pradesh and Haryana.&nbsp;</p>

<p>BJP leader Ramesh Bidhuri led a protest at the Jal Board filling pump in Okhla where police used water cannon on protesters, news agency PTI reported&nbsp;sharing a video.&nbsp;</p>

Police use water canon on people protesting against water shortage in Delhi, netizens point out irony

<p>Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Virendra Sachdeva on Wednesday (June 19) hit out at the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for "stealing and looting people," alleging that the government's free water scheme had proved to be a "sham".</p>

<p>He then said that at the time the party got the Delhi Jal Board (DJB), it was in profit of Rs 600 crores but now it is in loss of Rs 73,000 crore.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Ministers, MLAs, DJB are all under the AAP-led government. They have been stealing and looting the people of Delhi for the last 10 years. When they got DJB, it was a profit of Rs 600 crore and now it is in a loss of Rs 73,000 crore. Atishi must answer this," Sachdeva told news agency PTI.</p>

<p>“People are craving for every drop of water. Women spent nights waiting for water tankers while children in many areas are not able to take a bath for days due to scarcity,” he added.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, AAP Minister Atishi on Wednesday issued a warning stating that if Delhi does not get its water share by Friday (June 21), she will be forced to do a 'Satyagraha'.</p>

<p>"Today I have written a letter to the Prime Minister saying that 28 lakh people in Delhi are not getting water. I have requested that he should help provide water as soon as possible...If the people of Delhi do not get their rightful share of water by the 21st, then I will be forced to do a Satyagraha," Atishi said in a press conference.</p>

<p>"Due to the scorching heat, the water problem in Delhi has also increased. Today, Delhiites need more water. The total supply of water in Delhi is 1050 MGD, out of which 613 MGD water comes from Haryana but Haryana is not giving the full share of water to Delhi," she alleged further.</p>

<p>The AAP leader further alleged that because Haryana gave only 513 MGD of water to Delhi on Tuesday (June 18), nearly 2.8 million people were getting less water in the national capital.</p>

<p>"Haryana gave only 513 MGD of water to Delhi yesterday. Due to this, Delhi is short of 100 MGD of water today. Due to this, about 28 lakh people are getting less water. The people of Delhi are troubled. We have made all efforts to solve this problem. Delhi water crisis: BJP leaders stage protest, accuse AAP govt of 'stealing and looting people'

<p>Delhi Power Minister Atishi on Tuesday (June 11) said that the massive power outages reported in several parts of India's national capital were "extremely worrying" amid the ongoing heatwave.</p>

<p>She said that a fire at a sub-station of PGCIL in neighbouring Uttar Pradesh state's Mandola had led to the situation.</p>

<p>Delhi receives 1,200 MW of power from the Mandola sub-station. East and central parts of the national capital were the ones largely affected by the power outages, said the discom officials.</p>

<p>"There is a power outage in many parts of Delhi from 2:11 p.m. This is due to a fire at a sub-station of Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL) in Mandola, UP. Delhi receives 1200 MW of power from the Mandola sub-station, and therefore many parts of Delhi have been affected. The power restoration process has begun and electricity is now gradually returning to different areas", said Atishi in a post on her official X account.</p>

<p>Delhi Water Minister Atishi said Tuesday, "Even today I saw that in many residential areas of South Delhi, water is flowing in the driveways outside people’s houses due to washing of vehicles. My appeal to everyone is that you should not wash vehicles this way. If this public appeal does not work in the next one or two days, it is possible that we may have to impose a challan on excess usage of water. But right now we are issuing this appeal.”</p>

<p>“To address the problem of water scarcity, we have taken a slew of measures such as reducing water supply from twice a day to once a day in many areas… The areas which currently get water twice a day, will get once a day now… the water thus saved will be rationed and supplied to the water-deficient areas where supply lasts only 15 to 20 minutes a day,” Atishi said.<br />

In a tweet, she said, "Have issued directions to crackdown on wastage of water and illegal water connections. 200 teams of Delhi Jal Board will hit the ground. <p>She also directed CEO DJB to deploy 200 teams to check wastage and impose a fine of Rs 2000.&nbsp;<br />

‘Car washing banned,’ Delhi govt introduces fine for wasting water amidst acute shortage

<p>Delhi's Rouse Avenue Court on Tuesday (May 28) issued a summon to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Atishi in a defamation case filed by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The case revolves around Atishi's allegations that the BJP was trying to poach AAP lawmakers. The court has asked Atishi to appear on June 29. Delhi's Rouse Avenue Court on Tuesday (May 28) issued a summon to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Atishi in a defamation case filed by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The case revolves around Atishi's allegations that the BJP was trying to poach AAP lawmakers. The court has asked Atishi to appear on June 29. Delhi BJP Media head Praveen Shankar Kapoor had filed a defamation suit against the AAP leader and said the 'baseless' claims harmed the interests of his party. Atishi's allegations In April, Atishi in a press conference had alleged that the BJP was pressing her to either join their party or face action by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), India's premier financial intelligence agency. Atishi also claimed that the ED was planning to detain top AAP leadership, including Saurabh Bharadwaj, Durgesh Pathak, and Raghav Chadha. <p>As Delhi's Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal continues to languish behind bars due to his alleged involvement in the liquor policy scam, his cabinet minister Atishi has claimed that the ruling BJP is plotting to&nbsp;kill the CM, a news agency reported.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"From past few days, Kejriwal's sugar level is over 300 mg/dl, but he has been denied insulin by Tihar jail authorities. There's a conspiracy to kill Kejriwal by stopping his home cooked food supply," she reportedly said.</p>

<p>Atishi leveled grave allegations against the ruling party during a press conference held on Thursday (Apr 18), as per PTI.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"The BJP through its wing ED is trying to harm Kejriwal's health. They are trying to stop the supply of home-cooked food to Kejriwal in jail. The ED lied in court and said that Kejriwal is&nbsp;having tea with sugar and eating sweets. This is a complete lie. Kejriwal is taking an artificial sweetener," she reportedly said.</p>

This many units of insulin are taken by those who have severe diabetes. What food you eat, and which exercise you do, all are necessary for a diabetic patient. That's the reason the court has allowed him to have home-made food."&nbsp;</p>

<p>Aam Admi Party (AAP) leader Atishi on Saturday (Apr 6) hit out at the Enforcement Directorate stating that the probe agency has established no money trail in the Delhi excise policy scam probe, yet it arrested AAP leaders on the basis of mere doubt.</p>

<p>She then asked the ED to take stern action against BJP leaders over alleged money laundering.</p>

<p>The Delhi minister also accused the BJP of filing false cases against AAP through central agencies like ED, the Central Bureau of Investigation, and the Income Tax and Election Commission.</p>

<p>Her remarks come following a showcause notice sent by the Election Commission on Friday (Apr 5) over her claims where she alleged that the BJP, through one of her close aides, approached her to join the saffron party or else be ready to be arrested by ED within a month.</p>

<p>"ED has been investigating the money trail in this so-called liquor scam. ED is still investigating the money trail linked to any leader of AAP, but they didn't get a single penny of proceeds from crime from any AAP leader," Aishi said during a presser on Saturday.</p>

<p>"The Supreme Court has continuously asked ED, where is the money trail linked to AAP?... But ED has no answer for this. Justice Sanjiv Khanna says the money trail has not been proven, it's debatable. But many AAP leaders have been arrested under this case even after no money trail," she said.</p>

<p>Delhi Minister Atishi on Wednesday (April 3) claimed that&nbsp; Kejriwal has lost over 4 kg weight since his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate in the liquor policy case on March 21.</p>

<p>"Arvind Kejriwal ji is a severe diabetic. Despite health issues, he remained engaged 24 hours a day in the service of the country. Since his arrest, Kejriwal's weight has decreased by 4.5 kg. This is very worrying. The BJP is putting his health at risk by putting him in jail," Atishi said&nbsp;in a post on social media platform X.</p>

<p>Tihar authorities denied the Delhi Minister of Education's claim and released a statement on Kejriwal's health. "On arrival on 01.04.2024, Kejriwal was examined by two doctors and all vitals were normal. Also, his weight is constant at 65 kg, since arrival to jail and till date. Home-cooked food is being provided as per Court order. His vital statistics is normal," the statement said.</p>

<p>Atishi has, however, countered Tihar's statement and said that Kejriwal weighed 69.5 kg on the day ED took him into custody.</p>

<p>He also hinted at a power struggle within the AAP, suggesting that Kejriwal wants to put them in jail instead of making them Chief Minister.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"When Arvind Kejriwal gave their names to the Enforcement Directorate (ED), they felt that they are the next in line because Kejriwal has given them away."</p>

<p>"This is because Arvind Kejriwal does not want to make them Chief Minister. He wants to put them in jail. So they are scared," he said.</p>

<p>Other BJP leaders, including Harish Khurana and RP Singh, supported Sirsa's stance, accusing Atishi of creating a sensation and diverting attention from real issues. They claimed there is an internal tussle within the AAP for the Chief Minister's post.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"This is their internal tussle, which is coming out again and again in different manners. The truth is that action will be taken against all whose names are involved in the matter…It is clear that the fight for the CM post has begun in AAP. <p>According to the probe agency, Kejriwal said that Vijay Nair, one of the accused in the liquor policy case, didn't report to him but to Atishi and Bharadwaj. Nair is the former communication in charge of the AAP.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>What's the case all about?&nbsp;</strong></h2>

<p>The liquor policy case pertains to alleged corruption and money laundering in formulating and executing the Delhi government's excise policy.&nbsp;The Delhi government had implemented the policy on November 17, 2021.&nbsp;It was, however, scrapped at the end of September 2022 amid allegations of corruption, which AAP denies.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The profit margins of wholesalers were increased from 5 per cent to 12 per cent under the new policy,&nbsp;the investigating agencies have claimed.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The agencies have alleged that the new policy resulted in cartelisation and those ineligible for liquor licences were favoured for monetary benefits.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In a letter to Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, the former DMRC chief said free travel will "worsen overcrowding" and "lead to mishaps".&nbsp;</p>

<p>He alleged that the Delhi government's proposal of free travel for women is an "election gimmick" and urged the Kejriwal dispensation to "not destroy" the efficient and successful public transport system for electoral gains.</p>

<p>Hitting back, Atishi said the party is surprised that a respected person like him has written a "political letter" and the AAP feels like BJP is using Sreedharan's shoulder for conveying its message.</p>

<p>"Sreedharan ji has said that the move would be a financial burden on DMRC. I want to ask when last year, the Centre proposed to make metro rides free for senior citizens and students, why did not he raise any objection?" she said.</p>

<p>"If you look at the central government's proposal, you will see that it was a model of cross-subsidy, which means all other people would bear the subsidy of students and senior citizens. Why no objection on this?" the 37-year-old Oxford scholar said.</p>

<p>Secondly, in airport metro lines, several financial irregularities surfaced and the Delhi government gave a detailed report on it and a CBI inquiry was proposed, but it was stalled by the government, Atishi alleged.</p>

<p>"When this metro line was being made, Sreedharan ji was in-charge of Delhi metro, and if financial irregularities were taking place, why did not he raise his voice? Is the BJP protecting all the administrators by not conducting a CBI inquiry into the matter? Is this the reason the BJP is able to use Sreedharan ji for putting out their voice?" the AAP leader, who fought the Lok Sabha elections from the East Delhi seat, said.</p>

<p>"Third issue - he (Sreedharan) said (Sisodia's) comment that DMRC is using 65 per cent of its capacity is wrong and he is lying on the DPR report... Our question to you is whether the DPR project report on the basis of which the state and Centre decide their share...Is he implying that the figure of riders and the whole funding given on the basis of this report is wrong?" she said.</p>

<p>Quoting several international research studies on women's mobility and access to economic opportunities, Atishi said the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has based its proposal on such studies.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Women are a very small fraction of the country's workforce. Most women work in small and medium-sized enterprises. They do not have the financial independence to travel freely and many times have to ask their families for money to travel. When travel for women becomes free, it significantly increases their access to opportunities, as the World Bank and UNDP reports have suggested," she said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>She said a McKinsey Global report said India's GDP will grow by 16-20 per cent if women participation in the economy will be at par with men.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"The lack of access to public transport is one of the top impediments to the participation of women in the workforce," she added.</p>

<p>Reiterating the party's strong women security pitch, Atishi said, "Women feel much more secure when the presence of women grows in public spaces. We do not need just special coaches, we need 50 per cent occupancy of women in the Metro."</p>

<p>In an appeal to Sreedharan to not allow himself to be used by the BJP for their political agenda, Atishi said, "You are such a well-respected person, why are you allowing the BJP to fire from your shoulder to stall women's empowerment and development? The BJP is a party that wants women to stay at home, not wear jeans, and is opposed to women being independent. Why are you supporting such a regressive mentality?"&nbsp;</p>
