<p>Kurdish astrophotographer Darya Kawa Mirza claimed to have clicked the clearest photo of the moon which revealed some unprecedented surface details of the natural satellite.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The image, which was captured after four days of continuous observation, showed the topography of the moon in stunning clarity and revealed never-ever-seen features.</p>

<p>The photograph was described by Mirza as the "clearest and sharpest Moon image" ever captured by him after four days of continuous observation and shooting.&nbsp;</p>

<p>While the celestial alignment was not the awe-inspiring naked-eye event some expected, but it still offered incredible opportunities for astrophotography. An England-based astrophotographer has done just that.</p>

<h2><strong>Amazing spectacle</strong></h2>

<p>Josh Dury, an astrophotographer from Somerset, England, captured the celestial line up on June 1, 2024, from Crooks Peak in the Mendip Hills.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The alignment was over-hyped on social media and some planets were nearly impossible to spot without aid. However, Dury, using clever photography, brought the spectacle to life.&nbsp;</p>

Planetary parade: Astrophotographer snaps 'out of this world' six-planet line-up

<p>Astrophotographer Andrew McCarthy, who was observing sunspot AR3697 which appeared over the southeastern limb of the sun, captured its incredible footage from his backyard in Arizona.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In the footage, the astrophotographer captured the sunspot region's turbulent nature in great detail.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Unlike most celestial objects, the sun looks quite different from day to day, and is filled with exciting events like flares or coronal mass ejections. There's always something interesting to look at!," said McCarthy, while speaking to Space.com.</p>

<p>The&nbsp;sunspot&nbsp;region, which was formerly called AR3664, attracted the attention of the media and skywatchers in recent weeks after it released a flurry of&nbsp;coronal mass ejections&nbsp;CMEs, which were expulsions of plasma and magnetic field, towards the Earth.&nbsp;</p>

<p>When the magnetosphere of our planet was struck by these CMEs, it triggered a Category 5 geomagnetic storm which led to&nbsp;auroras&nbsp;far beyond their normal ranges.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Since the sunspot region turned to face&nbsp;Earth, its return with daily timelapse was documented by McCarthy.</p>

<p>"This sunspot has a history of being highly active, and produced a number of flares and CMEs which are exciting to capture and track," said McCarthy.</p>

<h2><strong>How did the astrophotographer record the sunspot?</strong></h2>

<p>The sunspot region was first documented by McCarthy shortly after it released a&nbsp;colossal X-class solar flare and captured the aftermath of the flare in remarkable detail.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"WOW! This is the same active region that caused those aurora a few weeks ago. It’s finished rotating around the back of the sun and ready to cause some havoc again!" wrote McCarthy, in a&nbsp;post on X.</p>

<p>On the third day of observing the historic sunspot as it started its journey back around to face the Earth, the plasma loops, which were recorded by McCarthy, appeared to "dance" across the sun's surface.</p>

<p>"This is a timelapse video I recorded over a period of roughly 90 minutes- you can watch how the sped-up plasma dances like flames…. Except the "flames" are larger than Earth," wrote McCarthy, on X.&nbsp;</p>

<p>On May 29, McCarthy explained the huge amount of work that goes on behind the scenes.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"This is what it looks like when I manually align each tile of a solar mosaic. I do it manually because I get an intimate look at each panel- so I know if I need to go back and restack it," wrote McCarthy on X.&nbsp;</p>

"Unlike most celestial objects, the sun looks quite different from day to day, and is filled with exciting events like flares or coronal mass ejections. There's always something interesting to look at!," said McCarthy, while speaking to Space.com. The sunspot region, which was formerly called AR3664, attracted the attention of the media and skywatchers in recent weeks after it released a flurry of coronal mass ejections CMEs, which were expulsions of plasma and magnetic field, towards the Earth. How did the astrophotographer record the sunspot? The sunspot region was first documented by McCarthy shortly after it released a colossal X-class solar flare and captured the aftermath of the flare in remarkable detail. "WOW! This is the same active region that caused those aurora a few weeks ago. It’s finished rotating around the back of the sun and ready to cause some havoc again!" wrote McCarthy, in a post on X. On the third day of observing the historic sunspot as it started its journey back around to face the Earth, the plasma loops, which were recorded by McCarthy, appeared to "dance" across the sun's surface. "This is a timelapse video I recorded over a period of roughly 90 minutes- you can watch how the sped-up plasma dances like flames…. Except the "flames" are larger than Earth," wrote McCarthy, on X. On May 29, McCarthy explained the huge amount of work that goes on behind the scenes. "This is what it looks like when I manually align each tile of a solar mosaic. <p>A backyard astrophotographer captured a stunning image of the International Space Station (ISS) laboratory transiting a crescent moon at a speed of more than 17,000 miles per hour.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Andrew McCarthy, who is known for clicking breathtaking photos of the cosmos, recently published a photo which showed the massive 356-foot-long orbiting laboratory transiting a massive crescent moon. The laboratory appeared like a shiny speck and the moon's crated surface was clearly visible.&nbsp;</p>

<p>McCarthy stated that he went to a remote location in the Sonoran Desert and placed his equipment among cacti in 105°F (40.5&nbsp;degree Celsius) heat with hopes of&nbsp;capturing&nbsp;details of the station which is rarely visible.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"This transit happened at 4:50 pm, so the sun was still out. That made the moon much lower contrast and difficult to focus on using my equipment. Thankfully, the ISS still shines brightly enough to capture in conditions like this," he said.</p>

<p>The ISS is stationed 254 miles above the surface of Earth and 238,900 miles from the moon. The massive craft travels five miles per second and completes a full moon transit in around half a second.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>Shooting in desert</strong></h2>

<p>Two telescopes were set up by McCarthy in the desert in case one does not work during the mission, something which had happened to him in the past.</p>

<p>"I use two telescopes for multiple reasons," stated McCarthy in a press release.</p>

<p>"Right now, I miss about two-thirds of the shots I attempt due to either equipment failure or weather. The second telescope helps eliminate variables. It also allows me to use colour and monochrome cameras with different strengths. This image was captured using both, so I was able to combine the final images," he added.&nbsp;</p>

<p>However, the astrophotographer got only one moment to capture the transit of the ISS across the moon, specifically a quarter of a second.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Precision during the capture was paramount. Due to the focal lengths used, the camera would have missed the transit entirely if my position on Earth was off even slightly," he said.</p>

<p>The ISS travels at a whopping 17,500 miles per hour, so the exposure of the camera had to be very short to avoid motion blur.</p>

<p>He said, "I was shooting with .2ms (1/5000s) exposures, but even with such short exposures, the station moved about 2 metres within each shot!"</p>

<p>McCarthy stated that he wishes to inspire the new generation of space explorers.</p>

<p>"Images like this really excite me. It's a juxtaposition of space exploration's past, present, and future. I call this one 'New Frontiers' as it makes me think about the Lunar Gateway and the future of the Artemis mission," said McCarthy.</p>

<p>He said, "Perhaps the first person to set foot on Mars will see it and feel inspired!"</p>

Astrophotographer clicks stunning image of ISS transiting a crescent moon

<p>The concept of the spacewalk is fascinating, to say the least. Yes, its less of a walk and more of 'space-floating'. The idea of being outside the protective spacecraft with almost nothing between you and the stars is surreal to imagine. There is an element of thrill as well. There have been enough movies showing the tether connecting the astronaut and the spacecraft snapping and the hapless bro (or sis) doing all they can to prevent being drifted into unending space.</p>

<p>Till now we had to rely on videos shot by space agencies of astronauts as they spacewalked. It's almost unimaginable to look up from Earth and see astronauts doing their thing.</p>

<p>But a fascinating new development has enabled us to take a 'human's-eye view' of the recently concluded spacewalk.</p>

<p>On March 23, NASA astronaut Raja Chari and European Space Agency (ESA) astronaut Matthias Maurer conducted a spacewalk outside the International Space Station (ISS). The spacewalk lasted for 7 hours during which the astronauts performed maintenance work at the ISS.</p>

<p>An astrophotographer has captured what he says is a "once in a lifetime" photo of this spacewalk. He was on Earth, and incidentally in Maurer's hometown in Germany.</p>

<p>Voltmer used Celestron 11-inch EdgeHD telescope on a GM2000 HPS mount and an ASI290 planetary camera to get the shot, as per his e-mail to Space.com</p>

<p>Voltmer analysed the photo and in an updated, indicated the positions of both astronauts.</p>

<p>An astrophotographer recently did the unthinkable by capturing the Milky Way! Finnish photographer JP Metsavainio spent the last 12 years putting together 234 frames of images at 125 degrees to create a mosaic of the sky.&nbsp;</p>

<p>NASA says that the Milky Way is about 100,000 light-years long, implying taking a picture is rather…. difficult!</p>

<p>The panorama created by the photographer shows 20 million stars and was finished on March 16. Each image part of the mosaic is an artwork in its own right and has&nbsp;been made available on his blog.&nbsp;</p>
