Agnikul Cosmos, an Indian firm has successfully test-fired its single-piece, 3D-printed rocket engine at a facility of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). The engine 'Agnilet' was test fired at the Vertical Test Facility at ISRO's Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC). This successful test marks a milestone in the private launch vehicle company's journey to building its spacefaring rocket 'Agnibaan'.&nbsp;

According to the company, this test was conducted with the support of IN-SPACe and ISRO. The test was meant to validate the technological possibility that rocket engines can be made as a single piece of hardware. Agnikul recently announced that the Government of India (GoI) had awarded them the patent for the design and manufacturing of their single-piece rocket engines. '

'Agnilet', one such single-piece engine, is the world's first single-piece 3D printed rocket engine fully designed and manufactured in India. It was successfully test-fired at IIT Madras in 2021.&nbsp;

The latest test is said to have validated the design and manufacturing methodology followed by the start-up and is a major milestone for 3D printing technology in India. Agnikul had recently announced the inauguration of its Rocket Factory- 1, India’s first-ever rocket facility dedicated to 3D printing such rocket engines at scale, situated at the IIT Madras Research Park.

The new state-of-the-art production house houses world-class machinery, including a 400mm x 400mm x 400mm metal 3D printer from EOS, and a host of other machines that will enable end-to-end manufacturing of a rocket engine under one roof.

An 18-year-old from Australia has been charged after police seized a fully functioning firearm he allegedly made at home with a 3D printer. Police said the homemade weapon was discovered by Drug and Firearm Squad detectives inside a home in Bayswater, in Perth's northeast, on June 3.&nbsp;

"This firearm although it resembles a toy has the ability to cause serious harm within our community," Detective Senior Sgt. Blair Smith told reporters. "It's deeply concerning that this man was able to manufacture this firearm at home with a 3D printer and readily available materials."

The 3D-printed weapon is capable of firing 15 rounds with one pull of the trigger. The teen has been charged with a series of firearm offences including the unlicensed manufacture of firearms or ammunition and possession of a prohibited weapon.&nbsp;

In Australia, civilians are banned from possessing fully automatic weapons, and all other gun ownership is heavily regulated and restricted to people over 18 with a valid license.&nbsp;

The laws were introduced in 1996 after a gunman opened fire on tourists at Port Arthur, a former colonial prison in Tasmania, killing 35 people.

Sergeant Smith described the discovery of the assault rifle as 'deeply concerning' and said it held no place in the community. 'Although it resembles a toy it has the ability to cause serious harm within our community,' he told reporters during a press conference on Monday. &nbsp;

It is estimated that it can take just 48 hours to manufacture a gun with materials costing as little as $40, while a 3D printer can cost $6,000.

The teen is due to appear before the Perth Magistrates Court on June 22. &nbsp;

Constructed by Tvasta Manufacturing solutions, this 600 sq. ft, single-story home has a functional space comprising of a single bedroom, hall, and kitchen —&nbsp;all of which have been designed and developed by the firm's indigenous 3-D printing technology.&nbsp;

The concrete 3D printing technology is a 'Ready-to-Implement Methodology'&nbsp;with no lead time on manufacturing, and is touted to offer advantages including reduction in overall construction cost and time, brings down the carbon footprint, higher productivity of labor, and utilisation of eco-friendly materials.&nbsp;

Tvasta's 'Concrete 3D Printing' is an automated manufacturing method, where their 3-D printer accepts a computerised three-dimensional design file and fabricates a 3D structure in a layer-by-layer manner by extruding a custom-made variant of concrete.&nbsp;

This technology enables building a 3D printed house in 5 days. With the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s goal of 'Housing for All by 2022', we have a huge challenge before us. A huge challenge of meeting that deadline and making sure that people who need houses get it at an affordable price. The Government incentives for that are available."

She expressed hope that with such technology able to deliver a home In five days, the goal of building 100 million homes by 2022, would not be a big challenge, when compared to conventional construction.&nbsp;

Tvasta’s primarily aims to cater to the various infrastructure needs in the Indian subcontinent, with the focus on providing construction-related 3D Printing services for government schemes that aim to alleviate problems of housing, sanitation, disaster-time rehabilitation, among others.&nbsp;

IIT Madras alumni’s startup 3D prints 600sqft concrete home comprising hall, kitchen, bedroom

Maram al-Amawi, an 8-year-old girl in Gaza has been given a 3D-printed face mask in order to help her recovery from severe burns she received in a fire about a year ago. However, for the treatment to work, she has to wear it eight hours a day.

Eight-year-old Maram was severely burned a year ago in the Palestinian refugee camp of Nuseirat, in the central Gaza Strip.

The inferno, which local authorities said was caused by a gas leak, left 25 dead and dozens injured, and ravaged several shops.

Today, she and her mother, who was also seriously injured on the face and hands, wear transparent plastic masks developed by medical charity Doctors Without Borders (MSF).

The mask puts pressure on the face and speeds up the healing process. Doctors Without Borders (MSF) provided the mask.

To make this mask, the patient's face is copied using 3D scanner. This later allows printing of a customised plastic masks

The fitted mask, with adjustable straps to hold onto the face, has to be worn for between six months and a year, depending on the severity of the lesions.

'Family refused to look'

Even though her mask is transparent and fits perfectly with the contours of her soft face, Maram is afraid of being pointed at in the playground.

"The mask has made my burns better, but I'm afraid people will laugh at me if I wear it outside the house," the girl shyly confesses, dressed in the black-and-white striped lace uniform of her school, which is run by the UN agency for Palestinian refugees.

"I put it on as soon as I get home from classes."

In fact, she wears it eight hours a day.

As for her mother Izdihar al-Amawi, 31, she keeps her mask on for 16 hours, only removing it during the day to eat.

At night, she wears another mask, and she also has special gloves for burns on her hands.

"Our wounds have improved thanks to the mask," says Izdihar, who now manages to go about household chores like before the accident.

"We were waiting for the taxi after shopping and we suddenly heard a big explosion, then saw fire everywhere," she recalls.

Izdihar and Maram spent two months in hospital undergoing operations.

Accepting their disfigured complexions was not easy.

"My family refused to look at my face after the accident," says Izdihar.

"I only saw my face 50 days after the operation, in the elevator mirror while going to get my mask at the clinic."

The mother of four hopes the scars will disappear "in two or three years, as the doctors told us."
