Saim Ayub hit 42 and Abdullah Shafique 37 as Pakistan raced to a commanding eight-wicket victory and their first one-day series win in Australia for 22 years on Sunday.

After bowling out the woeful world champions for a miserly 140 at Perth Stadium, Mohammad Rizwan's team reached their target in the 27th over. The impressive performance, aided by high-quality bowling from Naseem Shah, Shaheen Shah Afridi and Haris Rauf, ensured a first ODI series win in Australia since 2002.

They lost a tense opening match in Melbourne by two wickets, but bounced back with an emphatic nine-wicket victory in Adelaide.

"It's a special moment for me and the fans," said captain Rizwan. "I'll give all the credit to the bowlers. Beating Australia in Australia is not easy."

"But Saim and Abdullah have given us a couple of great starts, too," he added. "The fans love us regardless of whether we win or lose, and I really appreciate that."

The hosts rested Steve Smith, Marnus Labuschagne, Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc in Perth ahead of the Test series against India starting this month, and they were missed.

Shafique and Ayub began aggressively and rode their luck, with little spark from the bowlers. Ayub, who smashed 82 in Adelaide, survived two dropped catches, by Lance Morris and Spencer Johnson, as he swung the bat. Shafique was also put down on 28, by Adam Zampa, as they reached the halfway point in the chase without loss in the 14th over.

Australia finally got a reward when Morris caught and bowled Shafique and then bowled Ayub five balls later.

But Rizwan (30) and Babar Azam (28) kept calm to steer them home.

<h2>Outplayed</h2>

Rizwan won the toss and sent in Australia, who were no match for Afridi (3-32), Shah (3-54) and Rauf (2-24).

Sean Abbott top-scored with 30 before they were bundled out in the 32nd over.

"It's pretty disappointing, to be honest," said skipper Josh Inglis. "I think after probably the first three-quarters of the first game (in Melbourne) we were totally outplayed."

"Not enough runs on the board in games two and three."

Jake Fraser-McGurk and Matt Short again opened, desperate for runs after failing to make an impact at Melbourne and Adelaide. But on a pitch suited to quick bowlers, Fraser-McGurk once more flopped, nicking a swinging Shah delivery to wicketkeeper Rizwan on seven.

Aaron Hardie, at three in place of Smith, lasted 13 balls for his 12 before being caught in the&nbsp;slip off the dangerous Afridi. That brought Inglis to the crease, but he too departed cheaply for seven, skying a Shah bouncer that Rizwan collected to leave Australia on 56-3 in the 11th over.

Rauf then accounted for Short (22) before youngster Cooper Connolly, in only his second ODI, was forced to retire hurt on seven after a blow to his hand.

Out-of-form Glenn Maxwell only survived two balls, with Rauf bagging him for the third time this series, caught at point by Ayub, while Marcus Stoinis added just eight to the score as Australia stumbled to 88-6.

Abbott and Adam Zampa (13) shared a handy 30-run partnership before the tail was mopped up.

Sanju Samson’s 107 lifts India to win over South Africa in Durban T20I

Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting says the hosts must remain wary of a turnaround in Virat Kohli’s form in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy, as India's batting great loves scoring against the Oz, especially in their backyard. Kohli is far from his best run in Tests, having last scored a Test hundred against West Indies last year, but despite his array of poor scores, the batting legend is just one inning away from finding his Midas touch, reckons Ponting.

Against New Zealand in the recently concluded Test series at home, in which India lost 0-3, Kohli scored just 93 runs across six outings, averaging a mere 15.50.&nbsp;

With his struggle against spin making headlines worldwide, Kohli returns to Down Under to continue his love affair against bounce and pace, where he averages 54.08 from 13 Tests, including six hundreds and four fifties.

Ponting, a batting great himself, refused to judge Kohli for his lean patch, saying great players should never be questioned, and Kohli falls in the same category.

“I’ve said it before about Virat — you don’t ever question the greats of the game. There’s no doubt he’s a great of the game. He loves playing against Australia. In fact, I know he loves playing against Australia. And his record (in Australia) is very good. If there’s a time for him to turn it around, it’d be this series. So, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Virat make runs in the first game,” Ponting said to ICC.

<h2>Form a concern though</h2>

Since the start of this year, Virat’s Test average reads 22.72 from six games – his lowest in Tests in a calendar year since 2011. The dip in his form also resulted in Kohli falling out of the top 20 batters in the ICC Test Rankings for the first time in his career.&nbsp;

Though Ponting remains aware of the threat Kohli brings with him, he showed concern over his stat that reads Virat has scored just two Test hundreds in the past five years.&nbsp;

“I saw a stat the other day about Virat; it said he’s only scored two (three) Test hundreds in the last five years. That didn’t seem right to me, but if that is right, then that is, I mean, that’s a concern. There wouldn’t be anyone else probably even playing international cricket as a top-order batsman that’s only scored two Test match hundreds in five years,” Ponting continued.

Meanwhile, India and Australia will face off in the first Test in Perth starting November 22. The remaining four matches will take place in Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney, respectively.&nbsp;

Former Pakistan captain and veteran gloveman Rashid Latif has slammed BCCI’s reasoning of ‘security concerns’ not solid enough for them not to travel to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy 2025. The latest reports suggest that the BCCI has conveyed to ICC their decision not to allow the Men in Blue to travel across the border for the eight-team tournament, scheduled for February-March next year.

Furious over BCCI’s decision, Latif said if BCCI decides against sending its team to Pakistan, the hosts must consider boycotting this tournament altogether. His bold statement came after BCCI pushed for a neutral venue for all India games, with Dubai emerging as the top option.&nbsp;

Latif continued by saying that it’s not any bilateral series that BCCI can refuse to travel to Pakistan and that it’s an ICC event for which India, like all other participating nations, signed up, and on those grounds, must adhere to it.

“This is an ICC event. The cycle has been signed from 2024-2031. All the broadcasters and sponsors have signed about the teams that will participate in the Champions Trophy or the World Cup," Latif said during the Geo News show.

“If a team denies to participate, they need to have a solid reason to justify their call. Just like in 1996, the West Indies and Australia did not go to Sri Lanka but still reached the final. If you make a reason for security, then it is not a solid reason. Teams like Australia, New Zealand, England, and South Africa are coming to Pakistan," he added.

<h2>ICC exist because of India and Pakistan</h2>

India vs Pakistan matches across all levels are the marquee yet money-making clashes, and considering how impactful it is monetary-wise, the ICC make the most out of this game. Latif said if the Pakistani Board follows BCCI’s path and decides not to show up for an ICC event like their counterpart is doing for this one, the ICC will be of no use and suffer massive losses.

“ICC is existing only because there is Pakistan and India. If the government of Pakistan also says that we won’t play, then the ICC will be of no use as no one will watch the match," Rashid said.&nbsp;

“We can say that India does not want to play bilateral matches, but you can’t deny the ICC events as you already have signed it. India has to make solid ground. If India doesn’t come, Pakistan will take a big step by not participating in the tournament," he added.

Meanwhile, the PCB was supposed to release the final Champions Trophy schedule by Monday (Nov 11), but with BCCI denying sending its team for the tournament, what modifications will be made to it is yet to be seen.&nbsp;

‘Security concern is not...,’ Rashid Latif slams India for not travelling to Pakistan for Champions Trophy

England star keeper-batter Jos Buttler admits fearing losing his white-ball captaincy after his team failed to defend their T20 World Cup title in the Americas in June this year. Following their spike in success in ODIs and T20Is post-2015, where they won both the ODI and T20 World Cups, England suffered lows in the following editions, failing to win both. As a result, head coach Matthew Mott suffered the wrath of it, with Buttler’s future hanging by a thin thread.

Though the ECB Director of Cricket Robert Key sacked Mott from his position, appointing Brendon McCullum as his replacement, he decided to stick with Buttler as the white-ball captain. As Buttler makes his comeback to England’s T20I side for the first time since suffering a calf injury four months ago, he reflects on his time away from the game and his responsibility to take England’s dying white-ball cricket forward.

"I thought it was a possibility, absolutely," Buttler admitted when asked if he felt suffering the same fate as Mott.&nbsp;

"But, 'Keysy' believed I could lead the team forward and captain into the future. I had some good conversations with him, and I said I didn't want to be doing it because I'm the only person to do it, I want to be doing it because I'm the right person to do it.

"I've really enjoyed the honour of doing it, it's something I believe I can do well, something I know I can always get better at, just as with batting or wicketkeeping, it's a skill that you can improve. It actually became very clear that you're determined to do it and keep going,” he continued.

<h2>Buttler on his cricket future</h2>

Buttler, 34, said his calf injury gave him a new perspective about his cricket future, with the England star committing to play to develop the next era of England’s white-ball era, though he spilt beans on how much cricket was left in him.

"However long I play for, and hopefully it's a long time, I just want to be present and help develop the next era of white-ball cricket and just really, really enjoy this part of my cricket," said Buttler. "I don't have to try and protect anything or sort of hang on, I just want this to be an incredibly fulfilling time of my life.

"When you get an injury like that, it makes you realise how desperately you want to get back and the stuff that you really enjoy doing, so that's the mindset of however long I've got back,” he added.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, Buttler will return to the England Team for the first T20I against West Indies in Barbados on Saturday (Nov 9), but will not keep wickets, with Phil Salt continuing in his role for the five T20Is.&nbsp;

India Test captain Rohit Sharma will fly to Australia with the Indian Test squad while his participation in the first Test in Perth remains uncertain, per the latest report.&nbsp;

“He is travelling, but his participation in the 1st Test is yet not confirmed. Will see what happens next anything in regards to this. His availability is subject to his personal matter," a source close to the information said, as quoted by India Today.

Earlier, several media reports indicated that Rohit could miss any one of the first two Tests Down Under for personal reasons, with the Indian skipper confirming the same in a media statement following the conclusion of the home New Zealand Tests.

“Right now, I am not too sure whether I’ll be going, but let’s see. Fingers crossed," Rohit said after the Mumbai Test against New Zealand.

Meanwhile, if Rohit remains unavailable for selection for the Perth Test, India could play either KL Rahul or Abhimanyu Easwaran in his place, accompanying Yashasvi Jaiswal at the top; the two contenders, however, failed to leave a mark in the second playing for India A against Australia A in the second unofficial Test in Melbourne.

While KL scored 4 and 10 in two innings in the recently concluded tie that India A lost, the right-handed Easwaran scored just 36 runs across four innings in two contested matches. Should Rohit decide against playing the Perth Test, KL leads the race to replace him in the XI.&nbsp;

Besides, with Dhruv Jurel impressing everyone with his gritty knocks in both innings, including hitting fifties in two outings, chances of him breaking into the Test side grow, if not for the first Test, then surely once during the marquee five-match series.

<h2>Six-hour review meeting</h2>

Following suffering a maiden Test series whitewash at home against New Zealand, the BCCI alongside the captain Rohit, head coach Gautam Gambhir and chief selector Ajit Agarkar, held a marathon six-hour long review meeting discussing what went wrong, and with the Australian series on the horizon, how can they turn the tables around.

“It was a six-hour marathon meeting which was obviously on the cards after such a debacle. India are going on a tour of Australia and the BCCI would obviously like to ensure that the team is back on track and would like to know how the think-tank (Gambhir-Rohit-Agarkar) are going about it," a senior BCCI source privy to development was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.

The report also suggested that the BCCI was unhappy with team management’s call to rest Jasprit Bumrah for the final Test at the Wankhede and prepare a rank turner, which eventually cost India.

“Bumrah’s absence was discussed although it was a precautionary move. Opting for a rank turner despite India not faring well on these tracks are some of the issues that came up for discussion," the source concluded.&nbsp;

BGT: Rohit Sharma to fly to Australia but Perth Test participation remains uncertain – Report

American Coco Gauff defeated world number one Aryna Sabalenka 7-6(4) 6-3 in the semi-finals of the WTA Finals on Friday and will take on China's Zheng Qinwen in the showpiece match.

Sabalenka will end the year at the top of the world rankings but her bid for a maiden WTA Finals title was ended by Gauff who reached her first final at the end-of-season event.

Earlier, seventh seed Zheng overcame battling Czech Barbora Krejcikova 6-3 7-5 to reach Saturday's showpiece on her debut.

It had promised to be a close affair between Sabalenka and world number three Gauff, with the head-to-head record standing at 4-4, and the opening set lived up to expectations.

After trading early breaks, Sabalenka broke again to take a 6-5 lead to serve for the set but Gauff responded, forcing a tiebreak which saw eight breaks of serve over the 11 points.

The American cruised to a 6-1 lead, breaking Sabalenka four times, before the Belarusian broke twice to save the first two set points but Gauff held her nerve to win the first set.

Sabalenka cut a frustrated figure throughout the match and Gauff raced into a 4-1 lead in the second set before the sixth game turned into a marathon affair.

Gauff saved seven break points and at one stage Sabalenka threw her racket into the air but eventually won the game to keep the contest alive. However, the American then broke to love to serve for the match.

Sabalenka rallied and broke again but Gauff kept her cool and, just when it seemed Sabalenka would claw her way back into the tie, the American broke for a fourth time in the second set.

"I'm happy with the way I played, she's world number one for a reason," said Gauff, who can now look forward to Saturday's final against Zheng. "I'm not really nervous to be honest and the year-end I see it as just a plus and being here is a reward for the season I've had," the third seed added.

<h2>Great Start</h2>

China's Olympic gold medallist Zheng, making her WTA Finals debut, got off to a great start against eighth seed Krejcikova, with an early break to take a 3-0 lead.

The Czech saved three set points at 5-2 down but Zheng won the next game to love and took the first set with ease.

The second set looked to be going the same way as Zheng again raced into a 3-0 lead, this time with two breaks of serve, but Krejcikova finally got into her groove, winning the next four games with two breaks of her own.

The next three games went with serve to leave the pair tied at 5-5 before Zheng managed to break again, leaving her to serve for the match. Krejcikova fought hard, saving the first match point, but Zheng finally got the job done.

"It feels so special. This is my first WTA Finals, and now I'm in the final," Zheng said. "She (Krejcikova) is a really good player. We gave a good match. I don't know what happened when I was leading 3-0."

USA’s Coco Gauff downs Aryna Sabalenka to set up WTA Finals clash with China’s Zheng Qinwen

Teenager Sam Konstas fired a reminder to selectors on Saturday with a gritty unbeaten 73 as two of his rivals to open for Australia in the first of five Tests against India were out for golden ducks.

Australia is yet to decide who will fill the opening spot left vacant by the retirement of David Warner and partner Usman Khawaja in the first Test starting at Perth on November 22.

They are expected to name their squad on Sunday.

The 19-year-old Konstas surged into contention with back-to-back Sheffield Shield centuries for New South Wales this season. But he appeared to have blown his chances in three previous innings for Australia A against India A, scoring 16, 0 and 3. He finally came good in his last opportunity to impress when India A set the hosts 168 to win in their four-day game at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).

Konstas steered them to a six-wicket victory batting at number four, with seven fours and a six in his 128-ball stay.

Beau Webster was not out 46.

At the same time, chief rivals Nathan McSweeney, Marcus Harris and Cameron Bancroft all fell cheaply.

McSweeney propelled himself into pole position for Warner's spot with 39 and an unbeaten 88 in the first four-day red-ball clash in Mackay last week, but only scored 14 and 25 at the MCG.

Harris, who is looking to add to his 14 Test caps, hit a patient 74 on Friday, but was out first ball in the second innings.

Bancroft's hopes of resurrecting his Test career were already slim after failing to fire in Mackay and now appear non-existent after he too was out for a golden duck.

Sam Konstas fires reminder to selectors with match-winning 73 against India A as BGT squad announcement looms

Amsterdam banned demonstrations for three days from Friday after overnight attacks on Israeli soccer supporters by what the mayor called "antisemitic hit-and-run squads", and Israel sent planes to the Netherlands to fly fans home.

Mayor Femke Halsema said Maccabi Tel Aviv fans had been "attacked, abused and pelted with fireworks" around the city, and that riot police intervened to protect them and escort them to hotels. At least five people were treated in hospital.

Videos on social media showed riot police in action, with some attackers shouting anti-Israeli slurs. Footage also showed Maccabi Tel Aviv supporters chanting anti-Arab slogans before Thursday evening's match.

"We saw a lot of demonstrations, a lot of people running. It was really, really terrifying," said Joni Pogrebetsy, an Israeli soccer fan in Amsterdam for the match.

Antisemitic incidents have surged in the Netherlands since Israel launched its assault on the Palestinian enclave of Gaza after the attacks on Israel by Hamas militants in October last year, with many Jewish organisations and schools reporting threats and hate mail.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government sent planes to the Netherlands to bring fans home, while foreign minister Gideon Saar flew to Amsterdam for impromptu meetings with the Dutch government and far-right leader Geert Wilders.

Amsterdam banned demonstrations through the weekend and gave police emergency stop-and-search powers in response to the unrest, which exposed deep anger over the Gaza-Israel conflict.

More than 43,000 Palestinians have been killed and millions displaced in Israel's military offensive on Gaza, according to health officials there, launched after Hamas killed 1,200 Israelis and took more than 250 hostages in the initial cross-border attack, according to Israel.

In Washington, US&nbsp;President Biden condemned the attacks as "despicable" and said they "echo dark moments in history when Jews persecuted". United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres was shocked by the violence in Amsterdam, a U.N. spokesperson said.

<h2>Security Tightened</h2>

Mayor Halsema said police had been taken by surprise after security services failed to flag the match against Ajax Amsterdam, traditionally identified as a Jewish club, as high-risk.

"Antisemitic hit-and-run squads" had managed to evade a force of around 200 officers, she said.

Security was tightened in the city, where a service was planned at a Jewish monument on Saturday to remember Kristallnacht, the Nazi pogrom against Jews across Germany on November&nbsp;9-10, 1938.

One video verified by Reuters showed a group of men running near Amsterdam central station, chasing and assaulting other men as police sirens sounded.

Another verified video showed Maccabi fans setting off flares and chanting "Ole, ole, let the IDF win, we will fuck the Arabs", referring to the Israel Defense Forces.

Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof said he was "horrified by the anti-Semitic attacks on Israeli citizens" and had assured Netanyahu by phone that "the perpetrators will be identified and prosecuted".

Israeli President Isaac Herzog spoke with Dutch King Willem-Alexander, who he said had "expressed deep horror and shock".

Herzog quoted the king as saying the Netherlands had failed its Jewish community during World War Two - under Nazi occupation and persecution - and again on Thursday night.

Anti-Muslim politician Wilders, head of the largest party in the government, said he was "ashamed that this can happen in the Netherlands". In a post on X, he blamed "criminal Muslims" and said they should be deported.

Police said there had been incidents before the game, for which 3,000 Maccabi supporters travelled to Amsterdam.

Amsterdam bans protests after 'antisemitic' attack on Israeli football fans

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola is facing what would be an unwanted managerial first if his team loses their fourth consecutive game when they play at Brighton &amp; Hove Albion in the Premier League on Saturday.

City were eliminated from the League Cup in a loss to Tottenham Hotspur, suffered a shock 2-1 league loss at Bournemouth and were then thrashed 4-1 in the Champions League on Tuesday by Portuguese side Sporting, coached by future Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim.

Yet Guardiola was optimistic City, who trail leaders Liverpool in the Premier League table by two points, can right the ship, saying they were solid in large stretches of their three losses.

"There always is a first time (to lose four straight), hopefully it is not the case," Guardiola told reporters. "Twenty minutes against Fulham we were not good, against Bournemouth we were not good, but the rest of the games we were good. We are good. We will see what happens."

While Guardiola has never lost four straight as a manager, City did go six games in a row without a win in his first season in charge in 2016-17.

The manager will not have Jack Grealish back from injury for Saturday, he said, despite interim England manager Lee Carsley naming Grealish in his squad for the upcoming international break.

John Stones and Ruben Dias, who were also absent on Tuesday, are not expected to return for their clash with Brighton.

"No good news," the manager said. "The same, I think, as Lisbon."

While City midfielder Bernardo Silva said the team are "in a dark place" after their humbling loss in Portugal, Guardiola said his players are not in any need of extra reassurance.

"I don't think so. Of course, we are not used to losing three games in three different competitions but it is football and it has happened," the Catalan said. "We know the reason why we struggle but we are looking forward to this game and after the international break, and after that a few players will be back and recovered. All the little problems we have with players will be solved. I hope."

With his managerial contract set to expire at the end of this season, Guardiola was asked whether he had a trip to Abu Dhabi to meet with City's owners planned for the international break.

"No," was all he would say on the subject.

Guardiola signed his last two contract extensions during November international breaks.

Ace Indian shuttler PV Sindhu is not ready to give up her last shot at an Olympic medal. Showing keenness to participate at the LA28 Games, Sindhu says there’s only one way she can feature at the next Summer Games, perhaps her last, which is by remaining injury-free.

Sindhu is among the most decorated Indian Olympians ever, having won back-to-back medals at the Rio and Tokyo Games, respectively. Although she failed to complete the hat-trick of Olympic medals this time after crashing out in the Round of 16 in Paris, Sindhu says she has another medal left in her; however, to realise that dream, she must work on fitness and stay far from injuries.

“If I am fit, if I am able to do it, if I am injury-free, then definitely yes I will compete at LA. That’s what I can tell you," Sindhu said in a chat with news agency PTI.

Meanwhile, injuries put brakes to Sindhu’s medal-winning streak. Since winning the BWF title at the Singapore Open 2022, Sindhu failed to taste success in this tournament. She reached the Spain and Malaysia Masters finals since then but stumbled upon it at the last minute.&nbsp;

Even at the Olympic Games this year, she entered the competition nursing an injury that restricted her from performing at the best of her abilities.&nbsp;

Sindhu began her Paris Games campaign with an easy win over Nabaaha Abdul Razzaq before beating Kristin Kuuba to reach the knockouts. In the pre-quarters, Sindhu lost to He Bing Jiao, whom she beat to win the bronze in Tokyo in 2021.

<h2>‘No regrets’</h2>

PV Sindhu says she doesn’t regret not winning a medal in her third Olympic Games, adding that she felt she played good badminton but is willing to learn from her mistakes.

Sindhu, however, remains determined to work on her fitness and stay motivated for her final Games four years later in Los Angeles.&nbsp;

“It does happen at times. I had an amazing two Olympics, and in the third one, I couldn’t get a medal. But I think I played well. I learn from my mistakes and come back stronger. It’s not just over with it. I am looking one year at a time, and now the next Olympics is again four years down the line.

“So, the main aim and goal is to stay fit, and stay motivated and be injury-free. And enjoy what I do.”

“It’s not the end of the world. I can see myself going there for at least the next couple of years now. I don’t hate it or anything, it’s fine, I need to come out of it. I don’t have any regrets, it’s not just over for me. I definitely would want to play a lot more, and why not?” Sindhu continued.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, Sindhu recently featured in the Denmark Open, where she suffered a defeat at the hands of Indonesia’s Gregoria Mariska Tunjung in the quarterfinals.

Botham and Hughes were headline makers back in the day, with their famous face-off coming during England’s 1986-87 away tour when Botham hit Hughes for 22 runs in an over during his final Test ton at the Gabba in Brisbane; however, Hughes took his revenge two years later, bowling Botham in his return innings at Edgbaston, the Ashes Australia won 4-0.

Meanwhile, both will return to the commentary box for the forthcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2025, starting with the first Test at the Optus Stadium in Perth on November 22.

Foes to friends: When Merv Hughes rescued Ian Botham from crocodile-infested water

Israeli, Dutch and European leaders on Friday condemned "anti-Semitic" clashes that erupted in Amsterdam overnight after a Europa League football match, with the city's mayor detailing targeted attacks. The violence flared after the game between home team Ajax and Maccabi Tel Aviv that Ajax won 5-0.

Five people were hospitalised and 62 arrests were made as a result of the clashes, police said.

The mayor of Amsterdam, Femke Halsema, said the violence represented an "explosion" of anti-Semitism that has "not been seen in a long time".

She described "hit and run" attacks on Maccabi supporters, with "hooligans on scooters" seeking out Israeli fans.

"Men on scooters criss-crossed the city looking for Israeli football fans. It was a hit and run. I can easily understand that this brings back memories of pogroms," Halsema said. She added: "Our city has been deeply damaged. Jewish culture has been deeply threatened. This is an outburst of anti-Semitism that I hope to never see again."

<h2>Security tightened</h2>

The mayor announced tighter security measures including a temporary ban on protests.

Amsterdam officials said earlier that "riot police had to intervene several times, protect Israeli supporters and escort them to hotels."

The clashes had begun on Wednesday, 24 hours before the match. Police spokesman Peter Holla said there had been "incidents on both sides" on Wednesday night.

He added: "Maccabi supporters removed a flag from a facade on the Rokin and they destroyed a taxi. A Palestinian flag was set on fire on the Dam."

Israeli President Isaac Herzog condemned the clashes and said the "shocking images" of a "pogrom" were reminiscent of last year's Hamas attack on Israel.

"We see with horror this morning, the shocking images and videos that since October 7th, we had hoped never to see again: an antisemitic pogrom currently taking place against Maccabi Tel Aviv fans and Israeli citizens in the heart of Amsterdam, Netherlands," Herzog said on X.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered two planes be sent to the Netherlands to bring the Israeli fans home.

The Israeli military said it had banned all its personnel from travelling to the Netherlands until further notice in response to the violence.

Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof denounced the "completely unacceptable anti-Semitic attacks on Israelis".

"I followed with horror the coverage from Amsterdam," Schoof wrote on X, adding he had spoken with Netanyahu to assure him that "the perpetrators will be tracked down and prosecuted".

Netanyahu's office said he told Schoof that he "views the premeditated anti-Semitic attack against Israeli citizens with utmost seriousness and requested increased security for the Jewish community in the Netherlands".

European Union chief Ursula von der Leyen said she was "outraged" by "vile attacks targeting Israeli citizens in Amsterdam".

"I strongly condemn these unacceptable acts," von der Leyen wrote on X. "Anti-Semitism has absolutely no place in Europe. And we are determined to fight all forms of hatred," she added.

The United Nations meanwhile called the violence "very troubling" while Germany's foreign minister Annalena Baerbock said it was "terrible" and "deeply shameful."

<h2>'History's darkest hours'</h2>

"The violence against Israeli citizens in Amsterdam recalls history's darkest hours. I strongly condemn it and express my sympathy for the injured," French President Emmanuel Macron said on X.

In scenes that showed the tensions, unverified video on social media purportedly filmed on Thursday appeared to show some Maccabi fans chanting in Hebrew: "Finish the Arabs! We're going to win!"

Israeli authorities urged their citizens in Amsterdam to stay in their hotels and avoid showing Israeli or Jewish symbols if they do go outside.

Israel's new foreign minister Gideon Saar said he had requested the Dutch government's assistance in ensuring Israeli citizens' safe exit from their hotels to the airport to take the rescue flights.

A pro-Palestinian rally against the Israeli football club's visit was initially scheduled to take place near the stadium on Thursday but was relocated by Amsterdam city council for security reasons.

ALSO READ: Amsterdam riots: Netanyahu orders rescue aircraft for Maccabi Tel Aviv fans after alleged attack She described "hit and run" attacks on Maccabi supporters, with "hooligans on scooters" seeking out Israeli fans. "Men on scooters criss-crossed the city looking for Israeli football fans. It was a hit and run. I can easily understand that this brings back memories of pogroms," Halsema said. She added: "Our city has been deeply damaged. Jewish culture has been deeply threatened. This is an outburst of anti-Semitism that I hope to never see again." Security tightened The mayor announced tighter security measures including a temporary ban on protests. Amsterdam officials said earlier that "riot police had to intervene several times, protect Israeli supporters and escort them to hotels." The clashes had begun on Wednesday, 24 hours before the match. Police spokesman Peter Holla said there had been "incidents on both sides" on Wednesday night. He added: "Maccabi supporters removed a flag from a facade on the Rokin and they destroyed a taxi. A Palestinian flag was set on fire on the Dam." Israeli President Isaac Herzog condemned the clashes and said the "shocking images" of a "pogrom" were reminiscent of last year's Hamas attack on Israel. The United Nations meanwhile called the violence "very troubling" while Germany's foreign minister Annalena Baerbock said it was "terrible" and "deeply shameful." 'History's darkest hours' "The violence against Israeli citizens in Amsterdam recalls history's darkest hours. We're going to win!" Israeli authorities urged their citizens in Amsterdam to stay in their hotels and avoid showing Israeli or Jewish symbols if they do go outside. Israel's new foreign minister Gideon Saar said he had requested the Dutch government's assistance in ensuring Israeli citizens' safe exit from their hotels to the airport to take the rescue flights. UN, Israeli, European leaders condemn 'antisemitic' football clashes in Amsterdam

In the latest development surrounding Team India’s chances of participating in the Champions Trophy 2025, the BCCI has conveyed to the PCB that India will not travel to Pakistan for the eight-team tournament, citing security reasons. Instead, the BCCI has pushed for India games to be held at a neutral venue, with Dubai emerging as the best option.

"Yes, the BCCI has conveyed their concerns regarding Champions Trophy matches in Pakistan. They want to play matches at a neutral venue, and Dubai is the strong candidate to host the fixtures involving the Men in Blue," a source close to the information confirmed, as quoted by Times of India (TOI).

Following BCCI’s latest statement of not sending Team India to Pakistan, the host board – Pakistan Cricket Board and the apex body – the ICC, who confirmed sharing the proposed draft schedule with each participating board earlier, will now be bound to make changes to the final schedule, likely bringing in the hybrid model for this tournament starting February 19.&nbsp;

Even last year, BCCI did not send the Indian Team to Pakistan for Asia Cup 2024, with Sri Lanka roped in as the last-minute co-host.

Meanwhile, per the original plan, the ICC and PCB were supposed to release the final schedule on Monday (Nov 11); however, with the BCCI deciding against sending their team across the border, it remains to be seen when the modified schedule is released.

<h2>Dubai suits BCCI</h2>

Dubai has hosted several cricketing tournaments for a long time, including the Men’s and Women’s T20 World Cups, respectively. With Dubai ticking all the boxes for the BCCI and the Indian government, including security concerns, logistics and whatnot, the Indian Cricket Board is tilted towards bringing it in as the tournament's co-host.

“There are no issues in Dubai. Hotels are not a problem, logistics not a problem, everything can be handled smoothly. And ICC does have things in control when it comes to Dubai,” the source added.

Meanwhile, per the draft schedule, Pakistan handpicked three cities to host the Champions Trophy 2025 – Karachi, Lahore and Rawalpindi, with several reports suggesting that India was placed in Group A alongside Pakistan, New Zealand and Bangladesh.

As reported by WION earlier, the proposed schedule included India’s matches against Bangladesh in Lahore on February 20, New Zealand on the 23rd and the marquee clash against the hosts Pakistan on March 1 at the Gaddafi Stadium.

Besides, in the current scenario, if Dubai is added to the Champions Trophy itinerary, it will stage Team India’s knockout matches should they qualify.&nbsp;

India to not travel to Pakistan for Champions Trophy 2025; BCCI pushes for neutral venue - Report

Australia batter Marcus Harris leads the race to open against India in the first Test in Perth starting November 22. The left-handed opener pressed his case for a Test return following his gritty 74 (for Australia A) against India A on day two of the second unofficial Test at the MCG. Harris was Australia A’s highest scorer, with their number 10 Corey Rocchiccioli second on the list for scoring 35.

The other Test hopefuls failed to deliver, with two contenders fighting for the same spot – Cameron Bancroft and Sam Konstas scoring three each.&nbsp;

Cricket Australia’s chief selector George Bailey was present at the venue, with the latest reports suggesting that selectors have zeroed in on Harris and Australia A captain Nathan McSweeney as part of the 13-man Aussie squad for the first Test to be announced after the conclusion of this game. However, no official word on their selection is made public.

Asked if he did enough to ensure that he plays the first Test against India, Harris said if he gets a call-up, he is ready to pounce on this chance and make it count.&nbsp;

“I think, externally obviously this game was getting built up a lot, which is fair enough. I feel like I've been batting well, but so have lots of other people,” Harris said, as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.

“So, if I get called upon I feel like I'm ready to go, and if I don't, then so be it. I feel pretty well-equipped. I think maybe if I was in this position 12 months ago, I probably wouldn't have been able to perform the way I have at the start of this season. My results last year probably said that. So I've been proud of that,” he continued.

<h2>‘I’ll open in the first game’</h2>

Harris opened in both matches against India A, with Sam Konstas in the first Test and McSweeney in the next. Though 17, 36 and 74 (across three outings) put him in a commanding position to take up that vacant top-order spot in Australia’s Test side, Harris revealed what he made of the brief chat he had with the selectors in the lead-up to both games.&nbsp;

"They just said that I'll open in the first game, and we're not really sure what's going to happen with the second game," Harris said. "So, I don't know if that was the plan."

Harris admitted enjoying scoring runs on a difficult wicket on day two at MCG; he, however, shied away from reading too much into it, given how the situation panned out for him last year when the selectors picked Matthew Renshaw ahead of him for the away Border-Gavaskar Trophy.&nbsp;

"It was probably pretty obvious what was happening. You'd have to ask them, to be honest. You never know. Like last year, for example, we had the bat-off in Canberra, and they picked Renners [Matt Renshaw], who was batting at three. So, yeah, I don't know,” Harris continued.

Meanwhile, after getting all out on 223 in reply to India A’s 161 in the first innings, Australia A reduced their opponents to 73 for five at stumps on day two, with the visitors leading by 11 runs.

AUS A vs IND A: Marcus Harris leads race to open against India in Perth Test after gritty 74 at MCG

Liverpool boss Arne Slot is not surprised by his team's fine start to the season, saying he was well aware of the strength of the side he was inheriting when he arrived at Anfield as Juergen Klopp's successor.

Slot's team, who have won 14 of 16 games across all competitions since he took charge, look to remain top of the Premier League table when they host Aston Villa on Saturday. Liverpool have a two-point lead over holders Manchester City.

They also top the Champions League table as the only team with four wins in four games.

"I don't think surprise is the right word to use because I knew the quality of our team," Slot told reporters on Friday. "But quality is one thing and consistency is another. I am not surprised because I saw the energy my players put in on a daily basis.

"Sometimes a bit of luck comes with that as well. Most of our results were deserved but some have been a close call," he added. "(Also) when I started working with them I saw how much effort they put in to get these results."

"He will be back one or two games after the international break."

Curtis Jones, who was named in interim England manager Lee Carsley's squad for the upcoming international break, has shone for Liverpool in recent weeks, playing a sumptuous through ball for Luis Diaz to score in Tuesday's 4-0 Champions League rout of Bayer Leverkusen.

Slot said Jones has taken his game to another level since the birth of his daughter Giselle on October&nbsp;13.

"Since the moment he became a father, he started putting great performances in," Slot said. "He has a lot of qualities on the ball, when he has it he's never afraid to do something special," the Dutchman added. "Sometimes he is a bit too over-confident but confidence is important. He also has an incredibly high work-rate and we can trust him defensively."

Carsley included Jones in his previous two England squads but he has yet to make a senior appearance for his country. That could change when they travel to Athens to take on Greece on Thursday. England host Ireland three days later at Wembley.

‘I knew the quality of our team’ – Arne Slot unsurprised by Liverpool’s superb start to season

Saim Ayub slammed a swashbuckling 82 and Abdullah Shafique an unbeaten 64 as Pakistan demolished Australia by nine wickets to level their one-day series on Friday at the Adelaide Oval. Replying to the hosts' modest 163 all out, thanks to pace spearhead Haris Rauf's 5-29, Pakistan reached 169-1 with a huge 141 balls to spare.

It set up a series decider on Sunday at Perth Stadium after Australia won a tense first match in Melbourne by two wickets.

Openers Ayub and Shafique started the chase slowly, pinned down by Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins, with just 47 coming from the first 10 overs. But they began swinging the bat after that with Ayub smacking a big six from Cummins then crunching another off Mitchell Starc. The 22-year-old was dropped by Adam Zampa on 47 and capitalised by bringing up his maiden ODI half-century in only his second match, with Shafique joining the fun with some giant sixes of his own.

Ayub finally succumbed to the spin of Zampa going for another big hit, caught by Hazlewood, ending a 71-ball stay that included five fours and six sixes.

Babar Azam (15 not out) joined Shafique to see Pakistan home, ending the match with the 10th six of their innings.

"The most important thing is the team won," said Ayub. "We planned to be positive and not to think about the result but the most important thing is how we play as a team.

"Credit goes to Haris Rauf, but the other bowlers also supported him well."

<h2>Australia's bad day</h2>

Rauf's pace caused big problems after Pakistan skipper Mohammad Rizwan won the toss and sent Australia in, with Steve Smith's 35 the top score as they were dismissed in the 35th over.

Wicketkeeper Rizwan took six catches.

"It wasn't one of our best days," said Australia skipper Cummins. "You hope you get more than 160. They bowled well but we wanted to get a bigger score.

"We got some catchers in, tried to attack, but it wasn't to be," he added of their bowling.

In the absence of Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head, who are on paternity leave, Jake Fraser-McGurk and Matt Short again opened, keen to make their mark after falling cheaply in the opening match.

The aggressive Fraser-McGurk slammed three boundaries from Naseem Shah's first over, but was then out lbw for 13 to Shaheen Shah Afridi.

Short had a huge left-off on eight, with Afridi dropping a sitter by the ropes.

But the veteran paceman made amends, tempting Short into a cover drive shortly after on 19 that Azam did well to hold.

Josh Inglis hit a breezy 18 before he gloved to Rizwan off Rauf, with the same pair accounting for Marnus Labuschagne (6) to leave Australia on 87-4.

At the other end, Smith ground to 35 before finally falling to an edge from Mohammad Hasnain, and when Rauf and Rizwan again combined to remove Aaron Hardie the hosts were 121-6.

Rauf struck again to bowl dangerman Glenn Maxwell for 16 and collected only his second ODI five-wicket haul by once more teaming up with Rizwan to remove Cummins (13).

Haris Rauf and Saim Ayub power Pakistan to first ODI win in Australia since 2017

Team India’s T20I captain, Suryakumar Yadav, said he is playing all red-ball domestic competitions back home to stay in line for a Test comeback. Having made just one appearance in the whites for India (during the home Border-Gavaskar Trophy last year), Surya admits thinking about returning to the Test side. Although his T20 stature has grown with time, a Test call-up has remained elusive, which he wishes to work on.&nbsp;

The right-handed batter played a game for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy this season and featured for India B in the Duleep Trophy, though without tasting success in both.&nbsp;

“When the time comes, I will make a Test comeback. I am playing all the domestic tournaments, be it red-ball or white-ball. I don't miss any game. If that [Test comeback] has to happen, it will happen,” Suryakumar said ahead of the Durban T20I.

Meanwhile, a close ally of India ODI and Test skipper Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar, backed the batting veteran to come good in the upcoming Test series Down Under.
&nbsp;
Currently on national duty in South Africa for the four-match T20Is beginning on November 8 in Durban, SKY, as fans call him, revealed taking a leaf out of ‘leader’ Rohit Sharma’s book.

"I know how he [Rohit] treats the players, what he wants from them. So that route I have also taken because he's been very successful recently," he said.

"When I am on the ground, I keep noticing how his body language is, how calm he is under pressure situations, how he talks to the bowlers, how he treats everyone on the field and off the field."

"Most importantly, from a leader, you expect how much time he is spending with you to have that comfort. I try to replicate that. When I am not on the ground, I try and spend time with my teammates, have a meal with them, travel together,” Suryakumar continued.&nbsp;

<h2>SKY – a different captain</h2>

SKY is perhaps India’s best batter in this format and among the top three in the world. His attacking form of play has helped him stay ahead of his contemporaries; however, Surya’s captaincy style is completely contrasting to his idea of batting in T20Is.

"You have to understand what's happening around, what's going on in their [the players'] minds, and it is very important to give them that comfort," he said. "Everyone has different skill set, and they also want to come out and express themselves. So that freedom is very important when they get onto the field, and that is what I try and give."

"Whatever is running in their mind, I listen to them carefully. Off the field, I try and spend a lot of time with them to understand their strengths, who can deliver for me in pressure and current situations, and that's how I am on the field."

"See, this format is such that if you keep playing, you keep learning, and it's so fast on the field. By the time you blink your eye, the game is over. So that freedom and clarity is very important when you play this format on the field."&nbsp;

Although his T20 stature has grown with time, a Test call-up has remained elusive, which he wishes to work on. The right-handed batter played a game for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy this season and featured for India B in the Duleep Trophy, though without tasting success in both. Kylian Mbappe has been left out of the France squad for their upcoming UEFA Nations League matches against Israel and Italy, with coach Didier Deschamps insisting the absence of the Real Madrid superstar "is for the best". It is the second successive France squad from which the national team captain has been absent after he also missed the October double-header against Israel and Belgium.

"I have spoken with him and I have made the decision for this get-together because I think it is for the best," Deschamps told reporters at a press conference in Paris.

The 25-year-old Mbappe was rested for last month's matches in order to help him recover from a minor thigh injury suffered playing for Real.

However, that quickly became a source of controversy when he returned to action for Real days later, before France had even played.

Mbappe was absent for France's 4-1 win over Israel in a game played in Budapest and a 2-1 win in Belgium, and instead travelled to Stockholm for a short break with members of his entourage.

It was following that trip that Swedish media reported he was being investigated for an alleged rape. Mbappe himself said those reports were "fake news" while his lawyer said the player would take action for libel.

A Swedish prosecutor confirmed that an investigation had been opened, without naming Mbappe.

"I am not going to set out my argument, but I can say two things. The first is that Kylian wanted to come," Deschamps added. "The second is that it is not to do with the off-field problems because the presumption of innocence exists."

Since last month's controversy, the ex-Paris Saint-Germain forward has made four appearances for his club, scoring one goal. However, he remains short of his explosive best form.

"I don't want to say any more about it. I stand by my decision," Deschamps added.

France are second in Group A2 of the Nations League, one point behind leaders Italy, ahead of their final two fixtures.

They host Israel at the Stade de France next Thursday, November 14, and then play Italy in Milan three days later.

France are five points clear of Belgium in third place and the top two teams will qualify for the quarter-finals, which will take place over two legs next March.

The semi-finals and final will be played next June.

Veteran midfielder N'Golo Kante, of Al Ittihad in Saudi Arabia, returns to the squad along with Adrien Rabiot of Marseille.

Meanwhile, there is a first call-up for highly-rated Lille goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier, who takes the place of West Ham United's Alphonse Areola in the squad.

No Kylian Mbappe in France squad for Israel and Italy games in Nations League

Former Australia captain and batting great Ian Chappell has warned the touring Indian Team from going overboard in their attacking approach against Australia Down Under this time. India, who will enter the marquee Border-Gavaskar Trophy after suffering a maiden Test whitewash against New Zealand at home, is under pressure to deliver and win in Australia for the record third straight time. India, however, is also fighting for the spot in the World Test Championship (WTC) Final next year.

Chappell addressed Team India’s batting issues, including discussing their struggles against spin (at home) and extra bounce (away). Chappell opined that although some of their youngsters – Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill are in form, the touring side is aware and worried about Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s dying reflexes, considering their age and performance lately.

The former Aussie legend added that if India tries to be over-aggressive in their shot selection Down Under, extra bounce might catch them up, further exposing their batting vulnerabilities.&nbsp;

“India have got some batting problems. I think Jaiswal is a very good-looking young player, a left-hand opener, I think Gill can really play. But then you've got Kohli and Rohit Sharma, who are both ageing, and you get to that point where people start talking about it, and maybe it starts to creep into your head a little bit (where you think), 'Am I getting to that age where it starts to go downhill?', and they're both at that age."&nbsp;

"The only thing I'd say against that is they're coming to Australia where the pitches are pretty good, but there'll be the extra bounce, and if they have gone over the top, then the extra bounce will find them out," Chappell said on Wide World of Sports’ Outside the Rope show.

<h2>Pressure on youngsters</h2>

With Team India overlooking Test giants Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane for this tour and Rohit and Virat struggling to get among the runs, the pressure has fallen on youngsters, who failed to justify their selections in the past year or so.&nbsp;

Chappell reckons that India is overly relying on youngsters (Jaiswal, Gill, Sarfaraz Khan and even Dhruv Jurel) to deliver against the high-flying Aussies so much&nbsp;that the thought of them winning the third time could suffer a beating.

“They (India) have moved on Pujara, and they've moved on Rahane, and they've left Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, their best two players, but all of a sudden they've had a bit of a rocky period... and that has put pressure now on the younger guys and also their lower-order. You still need to make the bulk of your runs from your best players, and over the last probably 12 or 18 months that hasn't been the case for India,” he continued.

The Optus Stadium in Perth will host the first Test starting November 22,&nbsp;with Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, and Sydney scheduled to stage the remaining four matches.

BGT: Ian Chappell explains how over-aggressive approach could cost India Down Under

Imane Khelif, the Algerian boxer who defied a row over her gender eligibility to win Olympic gold, is taking legal action over media reports about leaked medical records, the International Olympic Committee said on Wednesday. Reports published in France this week claimed Khelif, 25, has XY, or male, chromosomes.

The gender controversy ignited at the Paris Games in August when Khelif defeated Angela Carini in 46 seconds in her opening bout, the Italian reduced to tears and abandoning the fight after suffering a badly hurt nose.

It led to a row that attracted comments from politicians and personalities ranging from Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni to "Harry Potter" author JK Rowling.

"We understand that Imane Khelif has taken legal action against individuals who commented on her situation during the Olympic Games Paris 2024, and is also preparing a lawsuit in response to the latest reporting," the IOC said in a statement.&nbsp;

"The IOC will not comment while legal action is ongoing, or on media reports about unverified documents whose origin cannot be confirmed."

The IOC said Khelif had competed in the women's category in international competition "for many years", including at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021 and at the International Boxing Association (IBA) world championships and IBA-sanctioned tournaments.

The IOC added that it was "saddened by the abuse that Imane Khelif is currently receiving".

Khelif, who received a hero's welcome when she returned to Algeria after her Olympic triumph, has already filed a complaint in France for online harassment.

Manchester City goalkeeper Stefan Ortega has been called up by Germany for the first time, after coach Julian Nagelsmann on Thursday named his Nations League squad. The 32-year-old was called up alongside Stuttgart's Alexander Nuebel and Hoffenheim's Oliver Baumann as goalkeepers in the 23-man squad.

Germany's number one goalkeeper, Barcelona's Marc-Andre Ter Stegen, is still out with a serious knee injury.

The Germans have already qualified for the Nations League quarter-finals with three wins and a draw this campaign, leaving them five points clear of the Netherlands and Hungary in Group A3.

"After reaching the quarter-finals early, we want to win our Nations League group - if possible in front of our fans at the home game in Freiburg," Nagelsmann said on Thursday.

In addition to Ter Stegen, Nagelsmann is also missing several other players due to injury.

West Ham forward Niclas Fuellkrug, Stuttgart's Jamie Leweling, Bayern midfielder Aleksandar Pavlovic and winger Leroy Sane, Dortmund defender Waldemar Anton and RB Leipzig's David Raum are all absent.

"We have a strong squad, even if we have to restructure in some positions due to injuries," added Nagelsmann. "Leroy Sane needs more match practice and rhythm after his break. Felix Nmecha has stabilised at BVB and, like Julian Brandt, is back after recent good performances."

According to German media reports on Thursday, 18-year-old midfielder Paul Wanner rejected a call-up for the matches, preferring to stay with the under-21s.

Wanner, who is on loan at Heidenheim from Bayern Munich, is eligible for both Austria and Germany. Wanner is yet to declare which country he will play for at senior level.

Nations League: Manchester City goalkeeper Stefan Ortega, 32, earns maiden Germany call-up

A gigantic banner proclaiming "Free Palestine" unfurled by Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) supporters at a Champions League match has no place in a football stadium, France's interior minister said on Thursday.

The huge banner covered an entire section of the stadium at PSG's home venue of Parc des Princes in Paris Wednesday night ahead of their defeat at the hands of Spanish rivals Atletico Madrid.

As well as the slogan "Free Palestine", the banner showed a bloodstained Palestinian flag, a gesticulating man with a keffiyeh scarf covering all his face except his eyes, the Al-Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem and a young boy wrapped in the Lebanese flag.

It was shown as Israel presses military operations against the Palestinian militant group Hamas in Gaza and the militant Shiite group Hezbollah in Lebanon and international concern grows over civilian casualties.

"This banner had no place in this stadium," right-wing Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau wrote on X. "I ask PSG to explain itself and the clubs to ensure that politics does not come to damage sport, which must always remain a source of unity," he said, adding such actions were banned by both French football and UEFA.

"If this were to happen again, we will have to consider forbidding banners for clubs that do not enforce the rules," he added.

In a later interview with Sud Radio, Retailleau made no attempt to hide his anger, saying the banner was "unacceptable".

"I want to know more and now how this banner came to be unfurled. The Paris police chief (Laurent Nunez) explained what happened. We agreed on a certain number of things but I am demanding accountability," he added.

<h2>'Scandalous'</h2>

The banner, which was unfurled by the Paris Ultras Collective (CUP) hard-core fan group, was shown above another slogan which read: "War on the pitch but peace in the world."

"The club was not aware of the plan to display such a message," PSG said in a statement Wednesday evening. "PSG emphasises the Parc des Princes is –&nbsp;and must remain –&nbsp;a place of communion around a shared passion for football and firmly opposes any message of a political nature in the stadium."

The president of the Representative Council of Jewish Institutions in France, Yonathan Arfi, described the banner as "scandalous", saying it depicted "a masked Palestinian fighter" and that it also showed "a map where the State of Israel no longer exists" in an image of the Palestinian keffiyeh.

"This is not a message of peace but a call to hatred," he said.

Hamas's October 7, 2023, attack on Israel that started the war in Gaza resulted in 1,206 deaths, mostly civilians, according to an AFP tally of Israeli official figures.

Israel's retaliatory campaign has killed 43,391 people in Gaza, a majority of them civilians, according to figures from the Hamas-run territory's health ministry, which the United Nations considers reliable.

Hezbollah began a low-intensity cross-border campaign last year in support of ally Hamas after the Palestinian militants' October 7 attack on Israel.

Israel escalated its air raids on Hezbollah strongholds in south Lebanon, Beirut and the eastern Bekaa Valley from September 23, sending in ground troops a week later.

More than 2,600 people have been killed in Israeli strikes since then, according to the Lebanese authorities.

A gigantic banner proclaiming "Free Palestine" unfurled by Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) supporters at a Champions League match has no place in a football stadium, France's interior minister said on Thursday.

ALSO READ: UCL: Inter Milan sink Arsenal, Atletico sting PSG late on as Barcelona back on track As well as the slogan "Free Palestine", the banner showed a bloodstained Palestinian flag, a gesticulating man with a keffiyeh scarf covering all his face except his eyes, the Al-Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem and a young boy wrapped in the Lebanese flag. 'Scandalous' The banner, which was unfurled by the Paris Ultras Collective (CUP) hard-core fan group, was shown above another slogan which read: "War on the pitch but peace in the world." "The club was not aware of the plan to display such a message," PSG said in a statement Wednesday evening. "PSG emphasises the Parc des Princes is – and must remain – a place of communion around a shared passion for football and firmly opposes any message of a political nature in the stadium." The president of the Representative Council of Jewish Institutions in France, Yonathan Arfi, described the banner as "scandalous", saying it depicted "a masked Palestinian fighter" and that it also showed "a map where the State of Israel no longer exists" in an image of the Palestinian keffiyeh. UCL: PSG’s 'Free Palestine' banner has no place in football, says French minister

Former Australia captain and India coach Greg Chappell contacted out-of-favour opener Prithvi Shaw over his career crashing due to fitness and disciplinary issues. Dropped from the Mumbai Ranji Trophy squad (after two rounds) for the ongoing season due to fitness concerns, Shaw, once tipped to be India’s next ‘big thing’, is nowhere to be found in this conversation for a long time.

Per a report in the Times of India, Chappell wrote to Shaw, urging him to get over his recent setbacks on and off the field, offering him assistance to get back on the right path.&nbsp;

Chappell, who, during his time with the Indian Cricket Team, made headlines for all good, bad and ugly reasons, cited examples of the great Sir Don Bradman and himself, saying both revived their careers after being dropped at a certain point. &nbsp;

Shaw’s downfall began when Mumbai lost trust in him following his underwhelming performances in the first two rounds this season; however, they cited fitness and disciplinary issues as reasons behind his omission. Moreover, Shaw’s IPL franchise, Delhi Capitals, also decided against retaining him ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction.

"The past doesn't define you, Prithvi. It's what you do from here that matters. You're still in your prime, with so many years ahead to make your mark. Take this time to visualise the cricketer and person you want to become. Surround yourself with people who inspire you to improve," Chappell wrote in the letter, as quoted by the Times of India.

"Remember, setbacks are a part of every great athlete's story. Even legends like Don Bradman faced the disappointment of being dropped and had to fight their way back. What made them great was not avoiding challenges, but how they responded to them."

Chappell wrote asking Shaw to embark on a journey of self-reflection, which led Bradman and himself to find their right paths in professional cricket.

"That shift – from results-focused to process-focused – transformed my approach to both practice and matches. I encourage you to embark on a similar journey of self-reflection. It’s easy to blame circumstances, but ultimately, your response to these challenges will define your path. Elite athletes know that discipline and sacrifice are essential. It’s about honing not just your physical game, but your lifestyle – from diet to fitness – with the understanding that the pain of discipline is far less than the pain of regret," Chappell wrote.

Shaw made his India debut six years ago, scoring a Test hundred in his maiden outing against West Indies in Rajkot. Shaw played in five Tests for India, including his failed stint Down Under the last time. The right-handed batter, however, made a name for himself in the English County last year, scoring the bulk of runs, but failed to fight for a spot in the Indian Team across formats.

In the Ranji Trophy for Mumbai last season, Shaw played a handy role in helping his team clinch the domestic title, scoring 451 runs across nine innings, averaging 83.52 at a strike rate of 58.5. Even against the Rest of India (ROI), Shaw hit a vital fifty for Mumbai.&nbsp;

<h2>‘Take care of your body’</h2>

Chappell concluded by asking Shaw to take care of his body and build strength and focus to move out of this dark area.

"Take care of your body, get the right amount of rest, and build the strength and focus you need. The door back to the Indian team is open if you're willing to walk through it, but it requires a commitment to growth and change. Know that I – and many others – believe in you and are here to support your journey back to the top. If there's ever a way I can help or if you have questions, don't hesitate to reach out. You have everything within you to reach your full potential. Wishing you all the best on this journey. Regards, Greg," he added.

‘Setbacks are part of every great athlete's story’ – Greg Chappell writes to Prithvi Shaw over crashing career

MMA fighter Conor McGregor has landed in huge trouble. The&nbsp;Irish mixed martial arts fighter allegedly raped a woman in a Dublin hotel, the city’s high court has been informed. The victim, named Nikita Ní Laimhín is claiming civil damages against superstar McGregor and another man, alleging she was sexually assaulted in Dec 2018.

The court, however, heard on Tuesday (Nov 5), McGregor’s lawyers who claim that Nikita&nbsp;is simply attempting extortion. The fighter was also in&nbsp;court to hear Justice Alexander Owens tell the jury it is alleged Nikita&nbsp;was sexually assaulted by McGregor and James Lawrence on Dec 9. The judge further claimed it was alleged that the ones in question had "in effect raped her".

The court was told McGregor collected Nikita, a hairdresser in Dublin, and her friend after a Christmas party on Dec 8.

John Gordon SC, for Nikita, stated that&nbsp;McGregor knew his client for long. She was&nbsp;out with her friends on the night of the alleged incident when she&nbsp;only contacted him, and headed to another party after being picked by McGregor.&nbsp;

It is reported that McGregor had a bag of cocaine, which was shared between him, Nikita&nbsp;and her friend before the former's driver took them to Lawrence's house, who joined them in the ride.&nbsp;Both the ladies had already been drinking and had&nbsp;cocaine. Notably, the court also heard that Nikita suffered from depression and was&nbsp;on antidepressants.

Upon reaching a penthouse suite in the Beacon hotel in Dublin, they continued to have a good time and were&nbsp;drinking and laughing before all hell broke loose.

McGregor allegedly went into a bedroom and asked Nikita&nbsp;to come along. The court was informed that the Irish fighter&nbsp;"came on to her", however, Nikita&nbsp;did not want to have sexual intercourse with him as she was on her period.

Gordon further told the court, "She will tell you that she was nervous, that she tried to push him off her but she was completely unable to do so. You will see pictures of her hands and wrists, which are black and blue. You will see that her left breast has a bloodied scratch. The scratch is there because she was wearing a watch and had her hands up to protect herself. She was pressed down on and the watch scarred her breast.

"Mr McGregor then flips her over and puts her arm in a lock and draws her up by the neck. She can’t breathe. And he does it again. By the third time he does it, she gives up. She can’t resist this any more. In the course of this, he says: "‘Now you know what it was like to be in the Octagon when I went down three times.’ She was at this point completely terrified. She subjected herself to what was about to happen, which was a violent and vicious assault."

Later, it was alleged that Nikita also had&nbsp;sex with Lawrence. However, Gordon revealed that his client&nbsp;had no memory of such an event taking place. Nikita then went to her mother's house, who in turn, called 999.&nbsp;

Gordon said,&nbsp;"In the face of this, Mr McGregor will tell you that this was a consensual encounter, that they were just having fun and a bit of rough sex. That’s his answer. What did I say about common sense? Don’t be fooled into leaving it behind in this [court] room. What he is saying is that she gave him a licence to carry out what has to have been a brutal assault on her body."

In addition, the court also heard from Dr Daniel Keane, a gynaecologist and&nbsp;a forensic examiner in sexual assault cases. In his report, the doctor claimed that Nikita came to him and told&nbsp;that the alleged attacker grabbed her by the neck and&nbsp;stopped her from breathing. As per him,&nbsp;she&nbsp;claimed of being unable to fight back and thought she was going to die.&nbsp;

The defence, on the other hand,&nbsp;pointed out&nbsp;that Nikita&nbsp;had several opportunities to complain&nbsp;about her treatment, however, she chose not to. Additionally, it claimed&nbsp;that&nbsp;she&nbsp;was engaged in an attempt at extortion.

The hearing will continue and action is expected to last around two weeks.

Conor McGregor in BIG trouble! MMA fighter raped woman in Dublin hotel, court told: Report

In an unsurprising turn of events, the British tabloid report of a finalized merger between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf may have been premature. The Sun reported Saturday that the long-awaited merger between the rival golf circuits was complete and, per the headline, "Golf's civil war OVER." But on Tuesday, Front Office Sports cited industry sources in reporting that the tabloid had jumped the gun. Several details remain to be ironed out, including the major issue of navigating antitrust concerns in the United States.

There is "heavy internal pressure" to finalize the merger before the end of 2024 in the interest of making future scheduling easier, Front Office Sports reported. The PGA Tour has already released its 2025 schedule, and LIV has put out four tournament dates for 2025 so far.

The shock merger between the PGA Tour and LIV was announced in early June 2023, with a self-imposed Dec. 31, 2023, deadline to finalize the "framework agreement." That deadline came and went, and PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan continues to meet and play golf with Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund governor Yasir Al-Rumayyan as the 18-month mark approaches.

The Sun's tantalizing report claimed that PIF would receive an 11 percent share in the PGA Tour; that LIV's 14 annual team events would be brought under the PGA umbrella; and that Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy "played key roles in the peace talks."
