The thriller film was the first major motion film to be shot on the ocean and has often been considered one of North America's first summer blockbusters. Later, he befriends a young boy named Elliott played by Henry Thomas, who helps him contact his planet. The heartwarming story of an alien and a young boy was quick to impress the audience. 

The film shattered all box office records and become one of the highest-grossing movies of all time.
