Why surge in petrol price?
The price adjustment came amid a period when the world is facing intense instability amid the West Asia war, with benchmark Brent crude surging past the 100-dollar-per-barrel mark. During the West Asia war, Iran has recently targeted oil and gas facilities in Gulf nations, which has resulted in a 5 per cent weekly gain in crude prices. The upsurge in the price also followed the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, which allows 20 per cent to 25 per cent of global seaborne oil trade.
