Meghan Markle named top fashion icon of 2019 dethroning Kylie Jenner
Global fashion search engine Lyst revealed its top 10 most influential celebrities that decided fashion trends this year. From Meghan Markle to Zendaya, the list is full of surprises.
Meghan Markle is 2019’s most influential dresser, dethroning Kylie Jenner from the top spot. The annual fashion report compiled by Lyst names the Duchess of Sussex as the only royal to make it to top 10 with her sartorial choices. Meghan, reportedly made trends this year with her fashionable choices sparking a 216 per cent increase in searches for similar items to those that she has worn.
Meghan was on number 3 till last year. Meanwhile, her royal counterpart, Kate Middleton slipped from 5th position to 11th.
Coming close to Meghan is US actor Timothee Chalamet who is now the most influential man in fashion after his Golden Globes outing in which he gave a unique spin to pants and shirt. He chose to step out in an embellished Louis Vuitton bib that had everyone sit up and take notice.
The ‘Interstellar’ actor also wore a sequin hoodie to the UK premiere of The King that sparked a 192 percent rise in searches for men’s hoodies
On the third spot is Zendaya who made a bold appearance at the Met Gala in a light-up Cinderella gown by Tommy Hilfiger that she paired with a carriage-shaped bag and glass slippers, sparking millions of searches on Instagram. She also brought attention to designer Vera Wang after wearing a striking green dress to the Emmy Awards in September, 2019.
She was not there on the list last year.
Stealing from Cardi B the fourth spot is 17-year-old singer Billie Eilish who is also making waves for her choice of clothes. Boasting over 40 million followers on Instagram she is known for her attention-grabbing style and that neon green hair always works.
She single-handedly led to neon green being fashionable in most pockets of the world. She spiked search for that colour by 69 per cent. She has another reason to be happy as she has become the youngest singer to get so many Grammy nominations as the list came out on November 20.
Cardi B landed on the fifth spot this year as she continued to grab headlines with her funky attires that were mostly over-the-top according to many and daring according to others.
From coming dressed as pearl and oyster to a head-to-toe covered neon dress, Cardi B has ensured she remains talked about when it comes to fashion.
Fans of K-Pop have made Lisa from Blackpink the most influential star in South Korea. The girl group member spiked sales of Celine's Triomphe bag by 66 per cent after she spotted wearing it in a series of photos throughout the year.
She might not be on the top of the list but we can’t ever get over a fashion list without mentioning her Kylie Jenner. The makeup beauty mogul Kylie has maintained her strong hold on the world of fashion as she continues to give us style inspirations, from her Met Gala look to her everyday posts on Instagram.
Remember her floral milkmaid dress? Well that gave a 66 per cent rise to search for that dress. She also broke wedding guest rules when she wore a daring gold dress to Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin’s wedding.
The star of the moment is US singer Lizzo as she yesterday grabbed the maximum number of Grammy nominations with 8 to her credit. Lizzo landed on number 8 for her leotards and bright style. She stunned at the MTV VMA with an 80s lilac off-the-shoulder prom dress paired with silver accessories and glitzy heels.
Number 9 is singer Harry Styles who dresses sharp and gives a spin to the usual suits with different colour options and more. He sparked searches for men's single earrings by 28 percent from May, after he was spotted wearing the accessory to the Met Gala.
The singer who is known for experimenting with fashion, also increased interest in blue suits earlier this year after he was seen wearing a vibrant style in New York.
Rounding off the list is Billy Porter who has broken conventions and set styles for men as he had the most-talked-about red carpet moment of the year when he wore a custom tuxedo-gown by Christian Siriano to the Oscars. The searches for the designer went up by 101 per cent in 24 hours.
