London Institute of Medical Sciences creates glowing plants!
Glow!
Bioluminescence is the emission of light by an organism seen in variety of species in animals and microorganisms. Fungi, fishes, invertebrates and bacteria also make the list.
Fireflies are an example known to all, they glow in dark.
Reason behind it
These bioluminescence were found in some mushrooms that was metabolically similar to some of the natural processes found in plants. So the scientists were able to transfer the DNA into a tobacco plant.
A never-ending glow
The glow will remain in the complete life cycle of the plant. The researchers found that this glow lasted seedling to maturity.
Uses!
According to its creators the technology could be used for several purposes like decorations or even study in plants movement. This technology could unveil unknown plant movements.
Future
The researchers said that other plants -- including petunias, roses and many other flowers-- could be adapted to make them glow, and that in future, plants could even be adapted to change their colour, brightness, or even to respond to their surroundings.
Real life 'Avatar'
The glow in these plants reminded many of the vegetation in the James Cameron movie 'Avatar'. The glow in the plants which seemed a fiction has turned into reality due to these scientists.
