Lok Sabha election results 2019: Star winners and losers

Perhaps one of the biggest upset this election season was Rahul Gandhi's defeat in Congress bastion Amethi, UP where Smriti Irani won with a margin of 40,000 votes. Irani was leading from the beginning and Rahul Gandhi conceded defeat even before the results were officially declared. 

BJP candidate and Bhojpuri actor Ravi Kishan won the Gorakhpur seat by defeating his nearest rival Samajwadi Party candidate Rambhual Nishad. Ravi Kishan defeated Nishad by a margin of 3,01,664 votes. Ravi Kishan polled 7,17122 votes, while Nishad got 4,15,458.
 

Actress-turned-politician Urmila Matondkar suffered defeat on her maiden political outing. 

Contesting elections from the Mumbai North constituency, Urmila lost to Bhartiya Janta Party’s sure-shot bet, Gopal Chinayya Shetty.  

Sunny Deol, who made his debut in politics this election season, won from the Gurdaspur constituency on a BJP ticket. Deol's father, Dharmendra took to Twitter to congratulate his son and wrote, " Faqeer Badshah Modi JI , Dharti puttra sunny Deol, Congratulations. Achhe Din Yaqeenan Ayen Ge". Deol defeated Congress candidate Sunil Jhar and garnered over 5.5 lakh votes. 

TMC candidate, Bengali actress Mimi Chakraborty won from the Jadavpur constituency in Kolkata. Mimi won with over 6.8 lakh votes and defeated BJP's Anupam Hazra and CPIM's Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharya. 

Actress Nusrat Jahan won from Basirhat constituency with over 6 lakh votes. 

Incumbent MP from Mathura, UP actress Hema Malini got to retain her seat as people elected her for the second term. Malini took to Twitter to thank PM Modi and Amit Shah and wrote, " Modi ji & Amit Shah ji are the architects of this stupendous win & it is the committed, tireless hard work of the wonderful Karyakartas that has made all this possible.I personally thank all the BJP cadre & all the netas of Mathura, UP who have worked so hard with me for my win." 

Dinesh Lal Yadav aka Nirahua lost to Akhilesh Yadav in Azamgarh constituency.  Yadav is part of BJP. 

Celebrity couple Shtarughan and Poonam Sinha were contesting from two different parties. Shatrughan Sinha quit BJP and joined the Congress party. The veteran actor lost to Ravi Shankar Prasad in Patna Sahib constituency. His wife, Poonam Sinha contested from Lucknow parliamentary constituency on a Samajwadi Party (SP) ticket and lost to Rajnath Singh of BJP. 

Moonmoon Sen contested on a TMC ticket in Asansol and lost to BJP's Babul Supriyo. 

Jaya Prada lost to old associate and now enemy Azam Khan in UP's Rampur constituency. 

Kirron Kher got to retain her seat in Chandigarh Constituency. She is part of BJP. 

Prakash Raj, who contested the 2019 Lok Sabha elections as an independent candidate from Bengaluru Central, conceded defeat as he tweeted, "A SOLID SLAP on my face... As More ABUSE, TROLL and HUMILIATION come my way... I WILL STAND MY GROUND... My RESOLVE to FIGHT for SECULAR INDIA will continue.(sic)"

Nikhil Gowda lost to independent candidate Sumalatha who won with a big margin in Mandya, Karnataka. Nikhil, son of Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy was contesting on a Janata Dal (Secular) ticket.
