
2014 Diwali was booked for Shah Rukh Khan's action-comedy 'Happy New Year'. In fact, Khan has had some of his iconic films releasing during Diwali for almost decade.
'Happy New Year' was released a day after Diwali on 24 October 2014 and was directed by Farah Khan. The movie broke many records with its opening numbers and was one of the fastest movie to reach Rs 100 crore club. The movie grossed Rs 194 crores at the box office.

Salman Khan usually releases his films during Eid. But in 2015 his film 'Prem Ratan Dhan Payo' released in Diwali. The 'Dabangg' hero reunited with Suraj Barjatya for the family drama.
The film released on 12 November 2015 during Diwali Weekend, the movie was sure a super hit! It earned Rs 210 crores at the box office.

2016 Diwali saw a big clash between two big-budget films- Karan Johar's 'Ae Dil Hai Mushkil' and Ajay Devgn's 'Shivaay'. The two films released on 28 October 2016.
Karan Johar's romantic musical film performed well and grossed Rs 112 crores at the box office. The film was embroiled in controversies before its release and most had felt that it would help the film to create box office history but that was not the case.
Ajay Devgn's 'Shivaay' was released alongside 'Ae Dil Hai Mushkil' and collected Rs 100 crores at the box office.

Produced by Aamir Khaan, 'Secret Superstar' may have been made on a small budget but the film smashed the box office. Although this film directed by Advait Chandan was able to earn Rs 63 crores in the Indian market, but it performed well in the overseas market and became the all-time highest-grossing Indian film overseas.
Clashing with 'Secret Superstar' was Rohit Shetty fourth film from the superhit 'Golmaal' franchise, 'Golmaal Again'. The supernatural comedy released on 20 October 2017 and grossed Rs 205 crores at the box office.

'Thugs of Hindostan' was perhaps one of the most-awaited movies of 2018. Afterall it paired Aamir Khan and Amitabh Bachchan for the first time. While the epic action-drama broke records and collected Rs 52.25 crore on its first day, its earning later slowed down due to bad reviews. It was reportedly made on a budget of Rs 300 crore barely managed to collect Rs 151 crore at the box office.

2019 Diwali will see the release of three different movies.
Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh's 'Housefull 4' will be clashing with Rajkummar Rao's 'Made In China', a comedy movie based on the life of a Gujarati businessman who travels to China in the hope of new business prospects and 'Saandh Ki Aankh' starring Taapsee Pannu and Bhumika Pednekar, which is a biopic on sharpshooters who took up the sport at the age of 60 and went on to become national level shooters.
