International Migrants Day 2025 - Top 10 countries with highest migrant population in the world

The total number of international migrants is 304 million as of 2024-25. It is rising exponentially and has doubled since 1990. International Migrants Day was first proclaimed by the UN on December 18, 2000, to raise awareness about the rights, contributions, and challenges of migrants.

The United States has the highest migrant population in the world in terms of absolute numbers, with 52.4 million. Mexican people compose the largest share of migrants in the world, followed by Indians and North and Central Americans.

Europe is the largest continent with the highest migrant population, with 94.1 million people. Germany has the largest number of migrants, around 16.8 million. The majority of the share is Turkish population, followed by Ukrainian, Syrian, Romanian, Polish, Italian and Afghanistani.
