India celebrates 73rd Republic Day! Here's how the day is panning out

India is celebrating 73rd Republic Day. On January 26 in 1950, the Constitution of India came into effect, and the country became a republic. Since then, the nation celebrates the date annually as Republic Day. 

India's capital New Delhi has been brought under heavy security cover as the city police have intensified patrolling and sealed the borders. They have made coordination with its counterparts from the neighbouring states amid a terror alert by intelligence agencies.

Over 27,000 police personnel have been deployed on Republic Day security duties in Delhi and anti-terror measures intensified, officials said.

On the eve of Republic Day, the Indian President Ram Nath Kovind addressed the nation as he said, "In this 75th year of Independence, let us re-discover the values that animated our glorious national movement."

On January 26, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted people. Modi tweeted, "Wishing you all a happy Republic Day. Jai Hind!"

India's Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) personnel celebrate the Republic Day at 15,000 feet altitude in -40 degree Celsius temperature in Ladakh.

Ahead of the parade, Prime Minister Modi laid wreath at the National War Memorial. 

Border Security Force and Pakistan Army exchanged sweets and greetings at Attari-Wagah border. 

Indian President Ram Nath Kovind arrived at the Rajpath as he leads the nation in celebrating the Republic Day.

The 21-Gun Salute is presented by Ceremonial Battery of 871 Field Regiment. 

Here are the detachments of Centurion Tank, PT-76, MBT Arjun MK-I and APC Topaz participating in the Republic Day parade.

The contingent of J&K Light Infantry (JAK LI), led by Maj Ritesh Tiwari of 5th Battalion of JAK LI, marches down the Rajpath.

The contingent is attired in the Indian Army Uniform of 1970s and carrying weapon 7.62mm SLR.

Indian Navy tableau participates in the parade at Rajpath with a special mention of 'Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav'. 

The tableau is designed with an aim to showcase the multi-dimensional capabilities of the Navy as well as highlight key inductions under 'Atmanirbhar Bharat'. 

Indian Air Force tableau displayed the theme 'Indian Air Force Transforming for the future'.

It showcased scaled-down models of MiG-21, Gnat, Light Combat Helicopter (LCH), Aslesha radar and Rafale aircraft.
