One of the significant and major events, the Indonesian Independence Day, or ‘Hari Ulang Tahun Kemerdekaan Republik Indonesia', marks immense joy amongst people.
Flag hoisting at government buildings, homes, and other offices and institutions is a must on this day.
Indonesians enjoy parades and games
All national television stations broadcast the Independence Day ceremony from the Medaka Palace in Jakarta and decorations in the colours of the national flag were made all around the nation.
Different communities participated in patriotic and cultural parades and festivities, and activities like carnivals and games like panjat pinang were also held.
We missed this so much, all thanks to the pandemic
The COVID-19 outbreak forced Indonesia to postpone major public events and celebrations. Games like ‘Panjat Pinang', meaning climbing palm trees, took place after two years.
Nearly 45 palm trees that had been doused in oil were set up for the games at an amusement park in Jakarta.
Capital’s establishment to harm the environment ?
As the celebration started, President Joko Widodo wants Nusantara to be the future capital. It’s a legacy project for him.
With this announcement made, it came as a concern for many environmentalists who expressed concern that this project would haste the extinction of the tropical woods that are home to orangutans and long-nosed monkeys.
Major goal of the celebration is to focus on 'new capital'
As per the State Capital Authority, Bambang Susantono said that the 77th Independence Day ceremony was to boost commitment and spirit towards building the new capital of the country.
