October 2 is also observed as the 'International Day of Non-violence', introduced by the UN to honour Mahatma Gandhi. With his speeches, Bapu and his teachings have undoubtedly endured for all time, influencing many people all over the world.

Gandhi is still regarded as a towering figure in India. Despite being nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize five times, he never received it. 

On Gandhi Jayanti, President Murmu paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat.
