In pics: British travellers hit by airport chaos as flight cancellations continue
Staff shortage
Airlines had envisioned a perfect summer for travellers after two years of Covid restrictions; however they have struggled to recruit additional staff, claiming that it is taking longer than usual to hire new employees and screen them for security clearance.
Daily Mirror quoted managing director of Aviation Recruitment Network, Kully Sandhu who claimed that they are struggling to fill more than 250 positions, including baggage handlers, shop workers and lorry drivers.
Travellers warned
Heathrow Airport chief, John Holland-Kaye has warned travellers in the UK that the chaos and disruptions in the airports can last up-to 18 months.
Holidaymaker's Nightmare
Passengers are facing havoc at the airport with continual flight cancellations without advance notice to the travellers. EasyJet has cancelled 60 to-and-fro services from the UK so far, Wizz air also cancelled seven flights and British Airways has scrapped 124 Heathrow flights.
'Holiday ruined'
A passenger, Ali Haynes who arrived at the Luton airport with her partner and five-month-old baby, only to find that their easyJet flight for Palermo had been cancelled. “We’re now stuck in Luton departures with no information on what next. Holiday ruined," Daily Mirror quoted Ali Haynes.
Travel agents worried
The Chief executive of Advantage Travel Partnership, Julia Lo Bue who mainly represents independent travel agents told Daily Mirror that close to 30 per cent of all the calls that they’re receiving currently are majorly from travellers who have made their bookings for the month of July and August, which is making them worried.
